yeah most 360s dont break but out of like the 3 models with the different drives theres like one that scratches games sometimes and breaks after like 6 months but all of the other ones are good

[QUOTE="GunSmith1_basic"]

[QUOTE="Magical_Zebra"]Gotcha, so your speaking on things on which you have no knowledge of? Magical_Zebra

just like everyone here! LOL

also, I think my post was a good assessment from the outside, and I dont pretend to know everything about the 360. I do know that people here post about it dying all the time and that consumer watchdogs in the UK are threatening microsoft with penalties if they dont improve their tech and their tech support. I wish I had the link for that one, I'll look for it now...

I never said the 360's DIDNT fail. They do fail and they fail more often then they should IMO. But the failure rate seems well...."exaggerated".

my first post in this thread basically said that, and in my second post I said that the most important problem was not with broken 360, but the perception that 360's have a bad failure rate.

consider yourself lucky. i got my 360 for free (core) and it has one red light occasionally. i just need to turn it off and turn it back on. it only happens while the 360 is turning on, otherwise, it doesn't happen to me. only my R6 keeps on freezing but thats cause i was stupid enough to move the console while it was running

"My $400 product hasn't self destructed!"

Thats really not a something to brag about. Plenty of things don't destroy them selves.

Mine crapped out after 6 months and I didn't even play it that much.. :( Well the "replacement" 360 has been going strong for the last 9 months so *knock on wood* maybe it'll continue to do so...

This is great because you never hear of the 360's that aren't broken. You only hear about the ones that break and everyone assumes that they are crappy hardware.

Mine still works like the day I got it. I guess I just know how to take care of consoles. :D

slothboyadvance

I am a freak about taking good care of my consoles, and I had 2 360's break on me. First would get disc read errors and freeze, and second would overheat and freeze. So I will not be replacing it for a couple years. I dont mind the wait anyways because all I currently want is mass effect and bioshock, so by then there will be more games for me. For now the ps3 and pc will hold me over.

Yes its all a conspiracy. Sony and Nintendo are the ones who are selling all the broken 360s on eBay. They purposely broke them just to make MS look bad.

Its a known problem. Its still not fixed on the elite. There is a clamp (x-clamp lol) that holds the GPU heatsink down that heats up and causes the motherboard to bend and unseat the GPU. It doesn't happen to everyone but it does and can happen to a lot of people. Its a design flaw. Why people still blindly believe it isn't a problem is very fanboyish and foolish.

Lets put it this way. MS wouldn't have changed the warranty policy twice unless there was a significant problem.

I thought the problem was in the solder they used (non lead based) to seat the gpu to the motherboard?

I have seen a few walkthroughs on how to fix 3 red light 360s over at GAF. The main problem is the x-clamps. If you remove them and fasten the heatsink right on the MB it fixes the problem. They have had a good success rate. I was thinking about picking one up just to mess around with. I might as well get some use out of the electronics courses I was forced to take and get a cheap 360 at the same time. If you can put together your own computer than you can fix a 360. They sell for around $80 on eBay if with just the system. So for around $150 I could have a fully functioning 360 with HDD, cables, controller if I get lucky.

Its very bad when PS3 owners dont even turn on their console...

[QUOTE="nyoroism"]

1) It's fine

2) I've seen that PS3 picture 10,000 times so I don't even know if it's yours.

SpecialForcesOp

Doesn't even matter I've haven't turned it on for about 6 weeks.

I wish I didn't own one.

Guess thats what happens when you own a PS3 and a 360, the PS3 does what it does best. Become a paper weight. A sexy one at that. ;)

Laughing at your own jokes? Yeah, I'd rather go through the hassle with MS customer service several times than have a game drought which is less than a month from ending btw. Good job lem. You continue to own yourself.

It's obvious YOU haven't had to go through MS customer service. Your thread's title makes that clear. But if you'd bother to read what some other 360 owners had to say, you'd see that's not true for everyone. Thus my statement "I'd rather have a game drought" than have to deal with replacing my system several times! Jeez. Is that clear enough for you? And most people that buy a system at launch have to deal with a game drought of 5-6 months. I'll admit that the PS3 game drought has been worse than others I remember BUT, as I stated, it's less than 4 weeks from being over.

None of those are going to matter to 360 fanboys (or the TC to be more specific) because they were AA games. Just have to put up with that for a few more weeks. Once the major games are released they won't be able to say that anymore.

We purchased ours july last year i believe (or august) and it broke last month. We got it sent in yesterday because i was sort of lazy on calling it back in. Just because you have a system that has lasted since launch doesn't debunk the fact that I have a buddy on his 3rd system and another who sent his in to be fixed three maybe four times. Those are two of the 3 guys i know, other then myself, and talk to fairly often that have a 360 (i know other people but i never talk to them so I have no clue what the state of theirs is. I did not even get the red lights on mine, it just stopped sending signals to a television. And before you started spewing solutions let it be know that we tried other tv's and cables and whatever else we could come up with as well as what tech support suggested.

The 360 failure rate is way higher then is reasonable and this thread is pointless.

Thank You for proving my point sir. So um...whats the point of making threads about broken 360's? :shock:

I know no one cares this far into the thread, but I have also been playing problem free since launch. So yeah, thanks MS for a great console with great games.
