it seems that the new rumor is that you will be getting REAL LIFE rewards for achievements on XBL .

so seriously ? wheres all that but but teh achievements dont matter crap now :? . Imagine if you could trade achievement points for Mcdonalds ,Bestbuy, or more likely Mountain Dew gift cards/ merchandise .

Like I said . Achievements are not only one of my biggest deciding factors in getting a version but they are better than mods period

mods dont make you a better player

Why have either, when you can have both? According to Epic, user-created mods are possible on the Xbox 360. With UT3 using them, I'm sure developers will begin to jump on the bandwagon.

You do realize that not all mods are texture mods and the like, right? Gmod? Dystopia? Specialists? NS? Sourceforts? MINERVA? Those are exactly what Valve intended. That's why they released the Source SDK.

What neccesarily makes achievements better? You get points for playing a game. Sigh... It is the most useless thing that has zero point to it. It doesn't give you anything except trying to find a item by waisting 10 hours killing enemies to get 100 acheivement points. Compared to a mod, which lets you play a different game then making you play the same game making you doing every irksome annoying thing possible to full out the achievements. What do you think is better?

You have to be a pretty big fanboy to think that getting more instead of developer's milking you for every hour worth of a game is worse.

Is it just me, or is this the most assinine justification possible to say achivement points are better than mods?

I mean, firstly the thing isn't confirmed. We have no idea if the scheme is legitimate, who is participating and what sort of free stuff or discount one can get.

Secondly, how does this make the games with achievement points more enjoyable than mods? It doesn't. Achievement points are a nice idea in making you experience a game's content, but is no actual substitute for additional content.

Also, doesn't this just damn the industry further? Are we dragging gaming one peg further away from artisitic concerns, and one peg closer to commercial rape?

Here's what you're missing. Mods can vastly extend the lifespan of a game. Yes, 99% of mods are crap, but there's still plenty of good ones for popular PC games, and they're easy to find. Instead of going to drop $60 on another game after you get your achievements and horrible fast good, you can instead download mods and keep playing the game on which you only had to invest once. Simple math makes this thread fail.

I didnt say Achievements > PC . I said Achievements > Mods. Mods are a nice little touch that ARE GENERALLY BAD ! Do you realize how many HL2 mods there were before Garys mod :?

Do you realize that the number of awful mods has nothing to do with how awesome Garry's Mod is, and how much more awesome it is than awful food from McDonalds?

again if / when M$ inplicates this , Starbucks, and Quizno's will probably be on the list too just like they were with M$'s other promotions . They both own Mods Also Again I state. Most MODS STINK

Here's what you're missing. Mods can vastly extend the lifespan of a game. Yes, 99% of mods are crap, but there's still plenty of good ones for popular PC games, and they're easy to find. Instead of going to drop $60 on another game after you get your achievements and horrible fast good, you can instead download mods and keep playing the game on which you only had to invest once. Simple math makes this thread fail.

except by the time you've beat the SP and MP and gotten all the achievements its time for a new game :?

Battlefield 2 for the PC has a ranking system which allows you to upgrade weapons and what not, but the mods are where it's at.
