seems to me your the fanboy. MGS4 was a fantastic game in every aspect. anyone who says they played the game and the ai is retarded, obviously played it on easy. i challenge you to go back on the boss extreme and say those words again. everything about the game was finely tuned. voice acting, graphics, gunplay, controls, the list goes on. granted we coulda done without the 6 hours of video. but still from a gameplay standpoint nothing else so far this gen even compares. take your own fanboy goggles off.

I personally would like to see Dead Space get some awards. that game was deffinatly the sleeper hit of the year. i loved every minute of it

Gears, GTAIV, MGS4 are all worthy of GOTY imho

Im pretty sure MGS4 will be GOTY here at GS, 1up and IGN. Tbh I would be shocked if it doesnt.

And I know GTAIV did very well critically, but I dont really see it getting GOTY. I wasnt even really wowed by Gears 2, but I think it deserves to be in the running more than GTAIV

no i am not a fanboy i own the xbox 360 and the ps3 and MGS4 is a great game but it is not going to be GOTY

There are two reasons why that doesn't warranty the GOTY:

1) Review standards are different depending the genre.

In other words, GTAIV getting a 10 and LBP a 9 means that GTAIV is a better action/adventure game than LBP a platformer, not necessary that GTAIV is a better game.

2) Reviews come from a singular reviewer, the game of the year is chosen by the whole Gamespot staff.  Maybe another reviewer would have given MGS4 or GTAIV a 9? Or an 8?

Played it. It was good and better than a lot of games(MGS 3 > 4 IMO).  But calling it the game of the last 8 years is a bit much.  Then again goty and most reviews are opinions, considering like said prior i thought in terms of greatness MGS 3 >  4 > 1 > 2.

As it stands MGS4 is both my favorite movie of the year and my favorite video game of the year. Its clear that mediums are melting together into these great interactive cinematic experiences.

If a game that has more cut scenes than gameplay wins game of the year whichever website judges that gets 110% ignored for the rest of their existance.
