If a game that has more cut scenes than gameplay wins game of the year whichever website judges that gets 110% ignored for the rest of their existance.
CreepyBacon
Damn that sucks, what game does that?
Anyways MGS4 FTW! I've gotten well over 150 hrs out of the single player alone, going for all the emblems, weapons, secret items, camos, masks, easter eggs, exploring areas, experimenting with the sandbox style gameplay, playing stealth, action, everything inbetween, and just all around having tons of fun with a game that keeps giving, both in content and different experiences. It also helps keep the longevity going since every Thursday they put out some new content via different powered camos, soundtracks for the Ipod, new weapon codes etc and its absolutely free. When I need something different I hop onto MGO for a Sneaking mission. Great game!
LOL. yeah, metal gear = cut scenes. i think grand theft auto might get it this year (although i'm pulling for L4D).MGS4?Â
This aint the Oscars.

between MGS4, GTA IV and LBP, probably.
Gears2, i dont think it'll be GOTY THIS year, though a very fun game and awesome(yet to play the game) and is a better game in every aspect. though i've heard a lot of lag issues, complaints on matchmaking, but am pretty sure it'll be fixed by the end of the year.
Dead Space? if Dead Space had MP and a coop, then surely, would be my choice for GOTY.

I don't know why people put LBP before Fallout 3. Seriously..
I don't see GTA 4 getting it. Tulak_Hord
Well, considering that GTAIV has ha, overall, better reviews than any other game this year, it is quite likely that it will be the GOTY.
But I agree with you, it doesn't (imo) have what it is needed.
For me, it would be MGS4 or Gears 2.Â
MGS4 has introduced a new experience this year which is the real time cut scenes. My jaw dropped when I was watching the first cut scene then it changed to the gameplay I even couldnt tell if the cutscene ended or not! Also I havent seen realistic movements of characters in any other games, yet there are other games have high detailed graphics like gears but not realistic movements as MGS4.
If you played MGS from 1 to 3 you would see the beauty of how developers ended the serial. most of the people on this thread sound like they even dont know the story

@ LBP
because i've played the game, and my opinion is still subjective, and may change when the year ends.
and considering you yourself, dont even like platforming in the first place(past thread), consider mario galaxy GOTY 2007.
@ Fallout 3
because i've yet to play the game. :?
i'm getting my copy by xmas, and am hoping that it'll meet my expecations.

Most of us actually do. It is an awesome game, an excellent technological achievement, and its story, despite being a little overrated here, it still great.
But no one can be absolutely sure it will be the GOTY, especially since GTAIV has got, overall, better reviews.
Everything could happen.

OMG A JOKE THAT SAYS MGS IS JUST A MOVIE1 NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE IN SYSTEM WARS!!
Yeah. Is that ALL you people got against MGS4? That lame criticism has been arouns since the first metal gear solid. Find something new will ya.
i think its going to be between mgs4, gta4 and super mario galaxysuperjim42SMG was last year. DOOHH!!!!
[QUOTE="darthogre"][QUOTE="Sony_Narutendo"]It's gonna be between Super Mario Galaxy or Metal Gear Solid 4
IronBass
I'll ask this again since no one answered....how can Super Mario Galaxy win GOTY when it released last year? That's like saying Halo 3 wins 2008 GOTY......err no.
He already said that he didn't knew that SMG came out last year.
no that was someone else actually. two people in the same thread not knowing smg won goty last year lol
Well i dont know which GOTY you guys are talking about. But its obvious that Metal Gear Solid 4 is the most deserving game of the year overall.Lets compare some of the other competitors.
1)Gears of War 2 is a great game but nothing like the first one.Although imrpoved but it did not hit the floor anywhere near like Gears of War original.
2)Resistance 2 is a great game. But not GOTY material, maybe for multiplayer and shooting but certainly not an over all GOTY game.
3)Fallout 3 is an amazing title.....But nothing revolutionary like OBLIVION IV !
4)Little Big planet does have a chance but again it does not feel like a GOTY material.
5)Grand Theft Auto IV might have been a great game. But it was a complete crap to most hardcore GTA fans.I think GTA fans made it very clear that its not just graphics/multiplayer rockstar needs to imrpove on....
6)Fable 2 is awesome...But in todays world with so many hidden blockbusters like Dead Space,it did get a hard time and wont make it to the top.
With this said i think its very clear that Metal Gear Solid IV is the most deserving one.

Ugh. Â You obviously haven't played it. Â Yes there are long cut scenes, we all know this, but the game play itself is extremely solid and fun.Â
Why does anyone care what some random people declare GotY? Isn't it more important what YOU consider GotY?Zero5000XNo.
I'm interested in what Gamespot think is GotY. And even more interested in the readers choice awards.

1)Gears of War 2 is a great game but nothing like the first one.Although imrpoved but it did not hit the floor anywhere near like Gears of War original. I don't know if you have played Gears 2, but it is far better than Gears 1. Maybe not as revolutionary for the time, but better
2)Resistance 2 is a great game. But not GOTY material, maybe for multiplayer and shooting but certainly not an over all GOTY game. The campaign was pretty good but the MP and Co-op are awesome. This makes a contender for sure.
3)Fallout 3 is an amazing title.....But nothing revolutionary like OBLIVION IV ! Do you mean The Elder Scrolls IV, Oblivion? Which was not revolutionary because it just used an improved formula of Morrowind. Fallout 3 is improved in many ways over Oblivion and is good enough to be a contender.Â
4)Little Big planet does have a chance but again it does not feel like a GOTY material. I agree with you here, The controls and platforming were just not that good IMO.
5)Grand Theft Auto IV might have been a great game. But it was a complete crap to most hardcore GTA fans.I think GTA fans made it very clear that its not just graphics/multiplayer rockstar needs to imrpove on....Agree again, good game but universally overrated at launch. I would love to see what these reviewers would give the game now/.
6)Fable 2 is awesome...But in todays world with so many hidden blockbusters like Dead Space,it did get a hard time and wont make it to the top. Fable 2 has already sold over 1mil, so I don't know how it is hidden.
With this said i think its very clear that Metal Gear Solid IV is the most deserving one.

I agree with most of the things you just said....
1)I finished Gears 2 and as i said it was pure AWESOMNESS.....But it did not hit the floor like the first one.The first one was AMAZING...i guess its all about the time.Although improved by far,but Gears 2 does not have the value like the first one had in those days.
3)I am refering to Elder Scrolls IV, Oblivion....i mean in its time it was a revolution in its category.Fallout 3 didnt quite amaze me and many other gamers like Oblivion did.MAybe the next oblivion in the line will be GOTY but Fallout 3 is a lacking material.Nothing short of an amazing title though....
6)I meant to say that Dead Space was a hidden blockbuster. And with so many awesome hidden titles launched this fall,Fable 2 was finding a hard time. Not with sales or anything....But refering to the success and impact on the gamers.Do not forget that it might have sold over a mil copies but theres a huge fan base to support that explanation.
I still think that MGS IV deserves it fair and square.
