I'm not a lemming and I don't need to READ anything I heard from Mark Reign's mouth that UT3 will REQUIRE the best hardware from a year AFTER it comes out to run maxed wehre as 360 already does Geras which is much more impressive

Over on the Epic forums, Mark rein replied to a similar thread there to this, about the specs:

"Yes I think I should have made it more clear that that I was talking about super high-resolutions (like the 2560x1600 we're seeing on 30" monitors but we know higher resolutions are coming beyond that) with everything turned up including AA, max texture detail, etc.

Obviously the game will run GREAT on the top-of-the-line systems you can buy today at reasonably high settings but my point was that there's still going to be some headroom to make this the showcase game for the PCs you buy two years from now and that's pretty much what every new Unreal game has been"

Your 360 is limited to 1280x720 resolution thats 720p.

And guess what, on the 360 your going to get 'medium settings'... and no DX10

With a 6800 - a 3 year old Vid card you can go 1280 X 1024, all high settings - but with no AA or AF....

360 scales EVERYTHING to 1080p and a 6800 could prolly play the game at low and 640x480 we've already seen how bad current PCs run UE3 in R6V so don't even try that old "It'll run on a 6800" bull

Alternatiley I upgraded my PC, instead of buying a 360 - and it was a damn fine choice.
Not only to I get the most exclusives - im also getting joint 360 PC games, not to mention games like Mass Effect, and now GeOW will be on PC. In the mean time ive got more than enought to keep me entertained.

As is, I'm partial to picking up the price-cut 360 this holiday season, and getting a Wii as soon as I can find way to try out Twilight Princess. Having the PC + 360 audience just means more money will go into making more games, never a bad thing.

Yes very true - this does push me towards a Wii or PS3 though, as both have better console only exclusives. Quite frankly I really want MGS4 and Mercs 2 - more than enough reason to scavange some money for a Ps3 in china.

I would consider a Wii to go with my PC, but my $50AUD cube plays twilight princess just fine ;)

There's something to be said for Gears being optimized for the 360. Likely, it will be out so much later on the PC that it won't matter. A pair of GeForce 8600 Ultras in SLI will likely do the trick for running the game at 1280x720 with enough goodies to make anyone drool (and will cost less than $400) Dual-GPUs have done some nice things for stabilizing framerates in certain games, I only expect that trend to continue.

You're taking away what you want to from what he said..and not actually trying to get what he's saying.

What he said is UT3 will support features that will only be viable on FUTURE hardware. This means it'll have settings you WON'T see in the 360 and PS3 versions (because they simply aren't powerful enough) but will be possible for future sets of PC hardware to utilize as graphics technology advances. This means the PC version of the game will probably be on par with the console versions @ medium settings or so.

Gears is also certainly not "much more impressive.." UT3 has MUCH larger environments, as well as more detailed environments with higher resolution textures and more generous usage of static meshes. Not to mention there's A LOT more going on in any given multiplayer scene in UT3 than in Gears of War.

When I play a game I want it to look like its meant to. Just becouse my computer COULD play Oblivion on some low/medium settings doesnt mean Im gonna play it. I bought that on 360 becouse I want it to look like the developers made it to look same goes for UT or Gears (sidenote: look how long it is taking the Halo games to come to pc) so a pc for $700 i pointless to me.

^^^That demo is running on a SINGLE 7800GTX..that's a FRAMERATE COUNTER (FRAPS) at the top right. This is on a build over a year old, by the way..and optimization is one of the final stages of development.

When I play a game I want it to look like its meant to. Just becouse my computer COULD play Oblivion on some low/medium settings doesnt mean Im gonna play it. I bought that on 360 becouse I want it to look like the developers made it to look same goes for UT or Gears (sidenote: look how long it is taking the Halo games to come to pc) so a pc for $700 i pointless to me.rzepak

So technicaly your buying the console version, so it can be played on medium settings, wheras PC gamers have acess to the high settings...?

You're taking away what you want to from what he said..and not actually trying to get what he's saying.

What he said is UT3 will support features that will only be viable on FUTURE hardware. This means it'll have settings you WON'T see in the 360 and PS3 versions (because they simply aren't powerful enough) but will be possible for future sets of PC hardware to utilize as graphics technology advances. This means the PC version of the game will probably be on par with the console versions @ medium settings or so.

Gears is also certainly not "much more impressive.." UT3 has MUCH larger environments, as well as more detailed environments with higher resolution textures and more generous usage of static meshes. Not to mention there's A LOT more going on in any given multiplayer scene in UT3 than in Gears of War.

And co-incidently im playing UC2 :lol:

LoL UC2 is an awesome game, but even it has FR problems when 8 guys (max) are duking it out.
Hell Ut2004's visuals creamed UC2 - and I was playing Onsluaght UT04 today aswell....

since Epic says you'll need the best PC from a year AFTER UT3 comes out to play the game maxxed I'd assume it would be the same with Gears so no a $700 PC wont do hell, a $700 GPU set up wont do

If the $100 x360 gpu ran what makes you thing a $100 pc gpu wont?
