All I see everytime I browse game sites is things like:

360 division revenues slump, or Kutagari replaced, os Sony discontinues 20 gb PS3, or loses exclusivitity on this game or that game... not to mention pretty dissapointing sales from both consoles.

With the Wii on the other hand it's more like:

Nintendo sets new records in sales or profits, Wii fastest selling console ever, Nintendo aquires Monolith, this dev or that dev decides to start making games for the Wii, the Wii gets (fill in the blank) third party announcment, How the Wii is creaming the competition, Devs scramble to try and play catch up on Nintendo's console

Ahhh you hear that?

that's the sound of victory... sweet sweet victory how sweet it is...

I'd hate to break it to you, but 'Victory' is going through a drought, while the other consoles can manage with their ONLINE multiplayer to keep themselves busy. :P

Victory =/= 1 good exclusive every 4 months, and nothing but mediocre 3rd party releases in between. I don't normally take a side, but your argument is just poor, and the Wii isn't as stellar as it's made out to be.

Those undrelines are where you showed how much of a fanboy you are.  BTW the reason m$ *ENTERTAINMENT* divisions profits went down was because of the Zune.  And devs deciding to start making games for a console? Is that anything to brag about?  The wii is not the fastest selling conse ever. and creaming the competition? Yay 6 months equals winning for the rest of its life time.  If this were true Sega would still be around and nintedo would be dead. (Snes gen)

Not for me. The Wii's game library is beyond awful and it is beyond a reasonable doubt that Nintendo actually are enjoying this.

Lets see: Dewey's, Opoona, Galaxy, Brawl, Prime, TP, Warioware, ports, Zorro, crap graphics.....list goes on.

Or: Assassian's Creed, Tom Clancy games, Kane and Lynch, GTA 4, Indiana Jones, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Alan Wake, Halo 3,Mass Effect, Clive Barker's Jericho, Banjo 3, Fozora, and many more to come.......

Now what do I really want? Choice is clear.

The Wii is a good system, no doubt about that. The thing about the Wii is that Nintendo is marketing the system to non-gamers and casuals. That is a good plan, except for the fact that non-gamers and casuals really dont play a whole lot of games. That could be one reason why despite the fact that Wiis are selling well, the games really arent.

I have a Wii myself and enjoy picking it up from time to time. However, Wii Sports got old. WarioWare got old. Beat Zelda. Couldnt get into Red Steel, ExciteTruck, Tony Hawk, etc. These games are done better on other systems. My point? Wheres the games?

Is this what you're looking for? Some kind of congratulatory message? If you're a Nintendo shareholder, check your wallet, there's your reward.

As a gamer, you're basically viewing how much you've been screwed up the butt for. "Nintendo - record profits" ... hmm, still can't play GTA on a Wii, and they have your money... congrats.

Where's the online that Nintendo promised me when I bought a Gamecube?
Where is the "wow" that I was supposed to say when I saw the Wii graphics?
Where are the hardcore games (don't confuse this with violence, the Godfather is not a hardcore game, it's about gameplay)

Nintendo fans keep raging about how it's about "gameplay > graphics" but every game I've touched on the Wii has felt dated - not because of the graphics, but because of the attitude Nintendo and other companies have about the Wii. Even the PS2 has superior games (Okami, God of War 2, Odin Sphere) coming out for it - and it is definately graphically inferior to the Wii.

I'm done with Nintendo consoles - they have not changed *at all* from the company that was screwing 'cube owners over. Twilight Princess? Delayed for two years so that they could have it for Wii owners? Way to reward my loyalty.

but in the end, for me, it's about the games - and ultimately Nintendo is simplifying their franchies to gain a bigger audience - at the expense of making them completely worthless for me as a gamer.

Post of the year. This is actually how I feel about Nintendo, I was screwed by them, I gave them my money and they got fat and rich in profits while my GC collected dust and I was full of anger and envy when so many games were flocking to Xbox and PS2 when Nintendo promised so much with the Cube. Not to mention the Twilight Princess scam. This sent me over the edge and I am done with them and I dont care if they succeed with the Wii or not because frankly I dont play dumbed down games.

I actually opened my eyes and I hope to pick up a 360 down the road and get satisfied with games, not Nintendo's profits.

Graphics, amazing gameplay, online, and multimedia features are important. The Ps1 made multimedia features standard, and it is a shame Nintendo still cannot grasp this concept, the Wii lacks all I have mentioned and what really amazes me is the fact that Nintendo can get away with it. Contrary to their claim, they are not selling a revolution.

People thinking they've been screwed by Nintendo is blatent stupidity at its best.  There is no argument for Nintendo screwing its customers that holds water.

If you bought a Wii and you feel screwed, the only one doing the screwing is yourself for buying a piece of plastic that doesn't appeal to you.

Yes it is, its appealing to everyone not just the hardcore, and IYO those things are important, i'm not big on online gaming, too many jerks out there, I only play with people I know so ninty's FCs don't bother me, and I have better Multimedia hardware elsewhere so I don't need a multimedia console, and graphics like I said don't matter to me, only gameplay matters

Generally speaking, if my grandparents think your product is "neat" you're not selling a revolution. When I was a kid my mom was convinced that if I got a Sega Genesis I would fail out of elementary school, start shooting heroin, and turn tricks for cartridges. Now that's a system.

They're not changing the face of gaming, they're commodizing something for an audience that's uncomfortable with the idea of playing an actual game - hence why the Wii doesn't have many of those.

If you want to buy into one and call yourself a "hardcore gamer" - fine, that's your decision, but it's not much different that putting your crayon drawings on the fridge and calling yourself an artist... you're not pushing the limits of anything but your refrigerator magnets.

And I can't play Smash Bros on the 360. Damn.

Where's the online that Nintendo promised me when I bought a Gamecube?
Where is the "wow" that I was supposed to say when I saw the Wii graphics?
Where are the hardcore games (don't confuse this with violence, the Godfather is not a hardcore game, it's about gameplay)subrosian

Four months and you're complaining about the catalog? I lol'd. I already bought more and am enjoying more games for the Wii than I did for my Xbox and PS2 last gen.

Nintendo fans keep raging about how it's about "gameplay > graphics" but every game I've touched on the Wii has felt dated - not because of the graphics, but because of the attitude Nintendo and other companies have about the Wii. Even the PS2 has superior games (Okami, God of War 2, Odin Sphere) coming out for it - and it is definately graphically inferior to the Wii.subrosian

Stop the presses! My SNES has better games than the Wii as well! Then again it's been out for awhile...too.

I'm done with Nintendo consoles - they have not changed *at all* from the company that was screwing 'cube owners over. Twilight Princess? Delayed for two years so that they could have it for Wii owners? Way to reward my loyalty.subrosian

A game twice the length of others in the series that was delayed for one year (not two bro), and you're complaining that it was a multiplat release? Nice.

but in the end, for me, it's about the games - and ultimately Nintendo is simplifying their franchies to gain a bigger audience - at the expense of making them completely worthless for me as a gamer.subrosian

Simplification of franchises? Like what? I've seen new franchises with a non-gamer edge, but how exactly are future releases like Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. Brawl simplified? Hell, Super Paper Mario...a simplified version of the Platformer-RPG? Do you own it?

Sounds like you've either been away from Nintendo for awhile or that you have no idea what you're talking about. I'm sorry that Nintendo bruised your youth with a console that I agree was bad (the Cube), but ranting about Nintendo in their "return" and saying that nothing is changed, while saying that a console that most hardcore gamers on the internet in almost every poll love above the others this gen is worthless for hardcore gamers. Sorry, I don't see where you're going with you're rant.

RossRichard

How about charging $70-$80 a game in the SNES era?

How about censoring games on the SNES? How about refusing to bring over Super Mario Bros II, because it was "too hard" for Amercian gamers? How about cel-shading Wind Waker? How about delaying Twilight Princess two years so they could sell more Wii consoles? How about not putting component cables for the Gamecube on store shelves? How about pulling the broadband adaptor for store shelves? How about not bringing Mother to the US?

Nintendo is not different from the company they were in the NES / SNES era - they tried a creative project again, it works, so they keep making it, putting as little money as they can into actually supporting it, and releasing the games you bought the system for when it's convient for them.

And how do they respond to the competition's game releases - when the competitoin is advancing gaming, creating games that are art pieces, offering online gameplay, and pushing the bleeding edge of what we thought was possible? Errr... sales.

Like I've said, you let me know when Nintendo's profits put more games on your system, or in any way improve the gameplay.

glad you are happy playing kiddy games. I hear they making 124 more kiddy games with PS1 quality graphics.

I don't know if I should feel sad or happy for the sheep. at least they are delusional enough to not notice the mediocare games.

As a gamer, you're basically viewing how much you've been screwed up the butt for. "Nintendo - record profits" ... hmm, still can't play GTA on a Wii, and they have your money... congrats.NECR0CHILD313

And I can't play Smash Bros on the 360. Damn.

I can't play Brawl on the Wii yet either.

I lol'd. I already bought more and am enjoying more games for the Wii than I did for my Xbox and PS2 last gen.NECR0CHILD313

Then you're completely ignorant of the Xbox and PS2 library. Forget "last gen" - Okami, God of War II, Final Fantasy XII, Disgaea II, Rogue Galaxy, and Odin Sphere - all recently released and recently upcoming games that absolutely *slaughter* the Wii library.

Halo 2 - new maps - yeah, three years later, new maps - and still the largest online multiplayer following of *any* console game ever. Way to go!

NECR0CHILD313

The PS3 has better games than the Wii. End of story. They've both been out the same amount of time, and the PS3 is producing superior games. The best console verison of Oblivion scored higher than the best console version of Twilight Princess, and Resistance is light-years ahead of Red Steel.

And I'm a 360 fan, not a PS3 fan, but since you insist on pretending systems should for some reason be given a time buffer to prove themselves, ignoring that systems released earlier might be producing better games.

Nice. NECR0CHILD313

Two years. My little brother sat on his preorder for so long that finally Gamestop gave him his money back. It was supposed to come out holiday 2004, it was delayed TWO YEARS until holiday 2006, for the Wii launch. As soon as Nintendo knew they had the go-ahead on the Wii, they shelved the project, announced they were "improving the game" - and kept that tagline up until they were ready to talk about the Wii.

but in the end, for me, it's about the games - and ultimately Nintendo is simplifying their franchies to gain a bigger audience - at the expense of making them completely worthless for me as a gamer.subrosian

Sorry, I don't see where you're going with you're rant.NECR0CHILD313

They haven't changed. I have a DS, I have a Gamecube. Hardcore gamers are gamers who promote gaming as art. Playing eighty hours a week or posting in an online poll doesn't maker you hardcore - understanding why Ikaruga, Okami, and Disgaea are better games than Wii Sports does.

Look at the reviews, play the games. Super Paper Mario is *incredibly* simplistic. The new franchises like Cooking Mama, Trauma Center, et cetera...simplistic. Nintendo is making games for casuals, at the cost of the hardcore gamer. If you don't see this, fine, enjoy being a casual gamer, there's nothing wrong with it.

But let's not try and pretend system sales make the Wii hardcore, or make it a superior system.

Even when there is bad news about the Wii, Microsoft or Sony (usually Sony) has a calamity that makes the Nintendo's mistakes look like nothing more than a small blunder.

Those games aren't better, just different, Okami was artistically pretty, but it wasn't something that most people would play, Wii Sports breaks down the wall of intimidation most non gamers feel, elitism doesn't make something good, read your signature maybe you'll see some irony in your comments

Okami was a brilliant game that deserved way more attention than it got. Wii sports breaks down the wall of intimidation by stripping away the parts of gameplay that make a game really fun.

The PS2 had amazing games... tons of amazing games.  But if you rated it by the average score of all its game put together... it would be horrid.  It's the same for every system.  The majority of games, on all systems, are painful to play.

P.S. Theres no "a" in mediocore.

So what if they win, good for nintendo.  I still dont like it. PS360 Elite!

What is it that makes games really fun that Wii-sports lacks?  Seriously, tell me.

[QUOTE="Dualshockin"]If the Wii could output next-gen graphics, and had online, then I would honestly consider supporting it. But this gen,Nintendo dropped the ball on what's important, and ran with what isn't.Not good at all.AvinashTyagi

Actually I think Nintendo nailed what's important, I don't care about graphics that much, started replaying maniac mansion today, game is great even with the terrible graphics

Tell me which Nintendo published games are appealing to the hardcore crowd,I can only think of 2.Their logic this time around is the same as last gen,"Bring in the market of non-gamers".This did not work for them then, and won't work for them now if they don't make some big improvements to the console asap. You may not be big on Online gaming, but 2 player mode is going to become a 2nd option for devs in the future, the ability to play with other console owners worldwide is what makes the online market grow each day. Gameplay matters, true, but graphics are getting more emphasis this gen. This is why the Wii is in a very bad position for the long run, their current and future games are already looking outdated and we're just 6 months in. As a Ds gamer,FC are not needed, they simply make the online experience constricted and timely.
