Uncharted, but then again Tomb Raider has probably been an inspiration to Uncharted, and Indiana Jones has probably been an inspiration to both.

Pretty much. UC and TR both borrowed heavily from each other. UC borrowed heavily from the old TR, and then the new TR borrowed heavily from UC.
a game that inspired a game and that game then inspired a reboot of the first game. pretty simple and obvious answer
Saw someone post it was more from Indiana Jones and Gears.
I remember one YT comment mentioning something like "does Nathan backflip a lot, dual wield handguns, hard lock ons and kill lots of wolves?"
Wonder if those have a heavier merit.
yes, there is some truth to that. Apparently very early on, Uncharted was originally set in a completely different fantasy type world. ND changed it following Sonys need for something more gritty (this change in plan came around after the success of Gears). By then all games were trying to be dark grittty and lacked colour...it was too much.
That's weird but interesting. Thanks for sharing.
UC1 still looked somewhat colorful.. wonder how much colorful it would've been without Sony's decree.
What games do you think influenced Tomb Raider Reboot/Remake and Rise of the Tomb Raider?
I think I'm halfway Tomb Raider Reboot/Remake and it felt quite different from Tomb Raider: Underworld and PSP Anniversary that I've tried way, way back.
Well, a high profile Sony developer/director left Sony to go help create Tomb Raider Reboot and now he's back at Sony working on the newest God of War. He directed God of War 2.
Furthermore, it's obvious that Uncharted 2/3 was a huge influence on the design of the game.
Fun picture time of my machines:
Can you please state the name of this director if available. I'm having a hard time Googling when I search "Sony game director to Tomb Raider". Thanks in advance.
They feel like a mix of old TR with Uncharted action and Ubisoft's style (mostly Far Cry and Assassin's Creed) exploration/progression. Rise seems to be leaning heavier on the second group than the first one.
Uncharted without a doubt.
\Which is a shame because we already have an Uncharted series, I'd rather have tomb raider back.
When I read comments like this I cant help but laugh. The franchise was floundering, which is why they did the reboot and changes to what is popular and selling in other franchises. If people really wanted the old TR, there would be old TR. Not many were buying that played out shit anymore. Don't mean to single you out, but the facts are they wouldn't have changed something if it was really working well for business.

You can laugh all you want, but honestly I miss the emphasis on platforming and puzzle solving. Even the more recent games in the series like underworld were pretty damn good.
I understand they want to ride on UC's image to make some dinero, but it doesn't make me any less disappointed.
@j2zon2591: Thread necro?
You didn't have to bump an old thread, you could just PM me amigo.

He only did the cinematics. Dude wouldn't made any big difference if someone else had his place back then.
You can stop spamming the sh*t out of your console pictures. I'm sure alot of people have them too on the forum.
Thats an obvious answer. Uncharted. The new TR takes more from Uncharted than Uncharted took from the original TR games. I still like both series anyway

LOL Making dinero isn't just a want in business, its a necessity. Otherwise, you are no longer in business. I get that you miss things. Point still stands if enough people really missed that, and put their purchasing money where their mouth is, the game would still be made that way.
When I played Tomb Raider reboot, I thought it was a cross between Uncharted and FarCry 3. The game is pretty fun but doesn't do anything revolutionary unlike Uncharted 2. The sequel would get 7-8/10 tops. Unless of course a lot of money is involved...

Lol...I loved Uncharted 2, but since when did it do anything revolutionary? :D
It definitely looks like they're influenced by Uncharted 2 which in turn was influenced by Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and Gears of War.
@AdrianWerner: Graphics...easily the best looking ps3 game back then and even beats most of the games out right now. I know graphics isn't everything but it had brilliant gameplay, good characters and reasonably interesting storyline. Overall it was an awesome game with revolutionary graphics.
Obviously Uncharted is right there with setting and presentation... But the game that most echoed the Tomb Raider reboot to me was Arkham asylum. Outside of the combat being slightly different, though very satisfying... I'd argue light-years more satisfying than Uncharted, the exploration and connection to the locals reminded me of playing Arkham asylum.
Wow that's a really good observation. I can definitely see the Arkham part you describe.
tr is better at aiming and aiming sensitivity. uncharted is a bit clunky.

Uncharted 2 was more influenced by Resident Evil 4 rather than COD4.
It really felt like COD4 was the game that really kick started the craze of campaigns filled with cinematic spectacle that exploded during last gen.

It was Resident Evil 4 that popularized the trend of linear, cinematic, set-piece-oriented, action game design. Naughty Dog themselves cited RE4 as a major influence on their games.

Thanks. Appreciate it. So accdg. to Wikipedia, he was the game writer and director of GoW 1 and 2. I kinda assumed he worked on UC earlier in this thread, my bad.

Hmm.. I can't seem to remember any CoD4 setpieces that seem to have influenced UC 2. I have to re-play/re-watch both games. Gonna wait for that NDrake collection tho.

A real shame I'm too scared to play RE 4. I remember when my bestfriend was playing it and me and my other bestfriend were squealing like little girls when he was messing with regenerators and the lack of bullets. If ever I do play the game, it's gonna be on very easy so I have little to no tension! :P
