Jade Raymond: Splinter Cell popularity held back by its complexity
gaf
The only SC game i played was conviction..and though i enjoyed aspects of it.. it did feel very basic..and the stealth was pretty average

Oh, the perfectionist mode sounds good.
Hopefully it will at least bring the game back to the roots that started the series, but I doubt it.

Yeah, I wish it went back to the "Your gun should always be your last resort" way,
and not the:
"Here, have a pistol with unlimited bullets that can kill people for you in rapid succession without even needing to aim, and just for good measure we are throwing in a vast aresnal of assualt rifles and shotguns for extra shooting"
Wasn't Splinter Cell popular on the Xbox with games like Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory? I loved both of those games when I was younger and I was no genius. I was so disappointed that the Splinter Cell games on the next gen consoles turned out to be sh*t because they messed with the formula to try and appeal to a wider audience.
Why does Splinter Cell need to cater to people who want nothing but action? Ubisoft already have IPs for that. Leave SC as a pure stealth game for goodness sake!
Edit: In the trailer all Sam Fisher does is take down his opponents. I remember in the old Splinter Cell games I got the biggest thrill from getting through a mission WITHOUT killing anyone.

Agreed.
I can remember playing old Splinter Cell games on PS2. They are soooo good, those are proper stealth games. It's great that Steam have them, so they can be played on the PC.
I noticed that I'm more of a retro gamer than I used to be these days, and the reason for that is obvious.
"You can climb up, do 3D navigation and jump over things without thinking too much or pressing buttons,"
They aren't even ashamed of articulating it. I played AC3 to the end and it was the most rubbish thing I've touched in years.
Indeed, indeed...Splinter Cell was one of my favorite series to come from the original XBox.. The mighty have fallen :(

Chasing the "casual" crowd can very easily result in a franchise completely losing its identity and not being appealing to anyone. The original fanbase will hate it, and casuals won't pick it up due to a more interesting game being availible somewhere. That may happen to Blacklist, for now, to me it seems like a bargain bin purchase, I'll eventually try it out, but I keep my expectations at minimum...

Word.
The thought of casuals ruining our games turns my stomach...
Meh, MGS > SC anyway ;)
Nah I honestly have not played most of the SC games, but its obvious that regardless, what she says does not bode well for fans.
Why is gaming always seemingly needed to be reduced for the LCD? Do movies or books suffer from "dumbing down"? Pressing buttons on a controller ain't that hard. Complexity is where a game's strength often lies. If some Joe Blow can't learn to interact with this medium, than tough sh!t for them. Books aren't reduced to illustrations so the illiterate can be included. Learn to deal and adapt, or don't play. Why do these developers do this to games but other mediums are immune to it?MirkoS77
because they want: money, money, money!
They don't consider their work to be art so for the green paper they bend it in any way they want with no remorse. They don't care about distorting their vision and ruining their games just for it.
You've never seen a better looking girl with a high-ranking position in the video games industry, though.I see better looking girls on the street everyday... smarter too.

When people get out of school, the LCD no longer reads books, so the books for adults do not target them. The LCD didn't used to play video games in mass, but they do now. As long as the LCD is part of an audience, they will be catered to.
What's so complex on it?
You hide, you sneak, you climb, you use gadgets, ect.
Nothing any thinking person can't handle...
[QUOTE="FireEmblem_Man"]She really isn't that good looking tbh....Shewgenja
You sir, are out yo mind.
I had better
The game is all about timing and using the environment to your advantage. It is a very complex game, with the exception of Conviction, and that's why it is so great. I'm sure Jade is a great businesswoman, but this is why business executives should not be making game design decisions. They want everything to follow a formula to appeal to the lowest common denominator, even if it means getting rid of everything that makes a franchise worth playing in the first place. What's so complex on it?

BTW, I remember the fiasco Ubisoft did to somethingawful.com by sending a cease and desist letter to the webmaster because the comic was an offense to Jade Raymond. Although the comic was nothing more than a political statement showing that Ubisoft was wh0r1ng out Jade to sell Assasin's Creed.
