Japan Renames Sony/Playstation Fans

Thought this was very different and could spice up SW instead of the usual unoriginal threads daily.  This just got posted today, but apparently Japan has adopted a new name for Sony fans.

"Gokiburi", which means Cockroach.

"the "gokiburi" nickname for Sony fans started appearing online in around 2010. The term still exists and was thrown about Japanese message boards and forums during this month's E3 gaming expo, with Microsoft and Nintendo fans as well as those who simply hate Sony firing off the insult. (Note: Fans of Sony's rivals also have derisive nicknames, and yes, Kotaku will be covering those at a later date).

No doubt, "gokiburi" will get more use as the console war heats up. Like real roaches, this isn't an insult that's likely to go extinct anytime soon."

I had no idea that Sony was viewed like this in Japan.  Could this create some negativity towards the Sony brand and its products?  Will this affect PS4 sales in the future?  Or is this something that's always been part of Japanese gaming culture?

I think the Sons of Sony should be called 'roaches' from now on.

Cockroaches are remarkable creatures,being able to survive without food ,water and other such necessities for long periods of time.They are highly resilient to physical injuries.

Scientific data suggests that cockroches will be among the few creatures that will survive in the future-This reminds me of SONY.

The playstation brand has survived for so long.sega died,but the playstation went on strong.ps3 cost $600 at launch,and didn't have many multiplats.Still survived.Nintendo is dying,but PS is as healthy as ever.

Yes,the only corporation that can match the legendary creature,named by humans as 'cockroach',is SONY.

Edit: it was not named after a comedian that was another name.

This represents the minority of Japanese community. I have been active in many Japanese forums due to region restricted PC games that I like and just like the US/UK there are those who love/hate the console, same with WII U, same with Xbox.

It is a more fitting name for them and even the gamers in Sony's homeland think so. SW needs to have a vote on this.CanYouDiglt
