This is not looking good for Sony.
Wonder if they have a plan that can turn this around?

well since the Ps3 is stupidly cheap in Japan (its the same price as an x360 in the UK) & its selling badly i think that having good games would be a solution.

ah yes that's right. the japanese have the cheapest price for the ps3 and it's still tanking. looks like a price drop doesn't help much. I wonder if Sony execs are going to start calling the Japanese ppl cheap as well? :P
WOW.
Now, THAT is bad. It only outsold the 360 by 2.5x
Not one PS3 game appeared on the top 40 software chart.
Also, total PSP software sales were +11million. Total Wii software sales were ~5.5million. Kinda surprising considering that the Wii has been out like 100 weeks less than the PSP.Â

A PSP game was the best selling game in Japan this week??So much for the PSP being dead and buried in Japan.
it's FF and just came out. expect it to be off the top 10 in a month since only the hardcore fans still care.Â
so...I assume this thread is about to get locked too? another one like this is gone.Â
anywho, this can't be good. don't know what they can really do, though. They're dependent upon the developers to bring software worth paying $600+ for. maybe it'll have that soon, but it doesn't have it right now, clearly. 2008 might be too little too late for the PS3 in this generation's race. Â
Just not sure what Sony can do other than pray that Lair and Heavenly Sword really come out amazing.

problaby because it was two of the same topics... anyway ps3 sales will pick up.
Sony really needs to get some games out. Pay SE a !@#$ load of money so their devs work overtime to get FF13 out asap.asdasd
Yet, Fantavision didn't stop the PS2 from selling like mad. PS2 sold DESPITE BAD GAMES FOR A FEW MONTHS. It was also $100 more than Dreamcast. Didn't matter, it sold anyway. PS3 just won't sell.Â

Saw that thread got looked. Can't really see why. In systemwars sales are kind a sentral. Not to compare which console is best, but to determine who might come out on top.
Devs follow winners, last 2 gens prowed that. This tendency that we are seeing now is higly interesting in this regard. If Sony doesn't do something it's wii and 360 this time around.
Which is fine by me. I hate beeing forced into a format war (blueray vs HD dvd).
I know alot of adult consumers in my country (Norway) chose not to buy a PS3 because of this..

Cow in denial? Yes, I believe so.
I have come to the conclusion that price has little to do with PS3's sluggish sales right now. It's the GAMES. It needs more than Resistance, ASAP.Timstuff
PS2 games were not much better for the 1st few months....were they? PS2 sold like mad immediately.
[QUOTE="AvIdGaMeR444"]PS2 sold like mad immediately.

You sure you want to rethink that?
it did. it was easily the most hyped launch ever. it was the first launch that really prompted people to sleep outside. it was a marketing masterstroke.

You sure about that? When I checked Game, Woolworths and Argos earlier today it was £425 for the console while the 360 sits happily at around £280 for the premium.

And it was also more expensive than Dreamcast. Tell me, if PS3 cost $400 right now, what game would you buy it for that's out right now? I know you want to see Playstation die anyway, but still, the point is that without a good software lineup, Sony would be shooting themselves in the foot with a pricedrop now.
However, a slew of hit games AND a pricedrop would send Sony straight back up to the top.

Think he is correct. It's about 150 $ cheaper in Japan from what i have read in this forum. If i'm mistaken my bad:-)

He's saying that the PS3's price in Japan is close to the 360's price in the UK, which it is.Â

ps2 was geting more games per month though.. because of the late launch in na(ps2 launched 9 months afer japanese launch) ps2 had alot of hype and american devs had alot more dev time. ps2 after its intial release in na was getting 10+ games per month in the months following dec of its respective launch year while ps3 is getting less then 10 titles per month. when the developers release more games the consumers will come.

PS2 didn't sell that much more than the PS3 is selling right now. It didn't spark until well into the generation.

Those aren't relevant titles to the Japanese market. The next title to watch for is Everybody's Golf, which will definitely cause sales to rise, at least temporarily. The important thing to watch for is the post-bump trend, however.

Very, very misleading. At this point in the PS2's life, it had still only been released in Japan. PS3 has launched in all regions.
If you do launch-aligned comparisons on a per-region basis, the PS2 kicks the PS3's ass.Â

Difference is PS2 was supply constrained long after launch. PS3 isn't.

Whats really scary is that the 360 beats it in software sales that week .
:? :o
wow. outsold 7-1 by the wii. i think it's over for the ps3. it's much closer to 360 numbers than it is to the wii.Ontain

i think its a bit early for that when a price drop happens im sure it will go sky highÂ

It had a pre-launch price drop. All another price drop is going to do is halt the slide for a while.Â
8800/week ???
Are you sure people Square will leave FF13 only to PS3 ? I mean what would the sales be, 100.000 max ? Or less ?
At least 360 sells 3x in US, and great in Europe too

A valid question. Will devs like Square continue to back a horse that look like a looser at the moment, or go multiplat to cut losses?
Dev costs have sky rocketed for PS3 and 360. Can a dev take a chance with the lesser intalment base or will a small instalment base force their hand?
Interesting times for gamers these...
35 DS games
7 Wii games
4 PS2 games
4 PSP games
and PS3 in the the 4 digit mark is not looking good for Sony.

360 games dominate PS3 ones in Japan ,the PS3 sales in Japan can no longer cover for the slow US sales, for instance in Japan PS3 sells about 6.000 more than 360, and in US 360 sells 40.000 more than PS3, so overall PS3 is 34.000 units behind each week, or 136.000 units / month in those two regions

Counter Strike FTW best multiplayer FPSÂ
Really looks like Sony should have just backed their PS2 for 10 years instead of trying to back the new PS3 for 10 years. It just doesn't have the same mass appeal which at the same time burns a bigger hole in people's pockets. (and takes up like twice the space on the small shelves the Japanese probably have)
