Sure but it still has stiff competition in the forms of Dark Souls,Deus Ex,Saints Row 3 (personal GOTY) and technically Minecraft as it only went 1.0 the other week.
Skyrim is definitely a GotY contender, but lol @ "industry insider"
As if we all get together and have secret meetings and talk about game obsessions. Plus Jeff is just a damn game reviewer. I guess here soon we'll be calling Gamestop managers insiders as well.

So I guess you're an insider?
Please.
Its one guys opinion. Get oiver it. I could say the exact sane words and no one would care. Its just cos he's in the business.
haven't played it yet but for me batman arkham city & gears of war 3 are my top 2....I'll play skyrim soon
So now we are praising broken, buggy, and glitchy games that are clearly rushed? I guess our standards as gamers have hit a new low:(
Game is kind of being over praised....Maby if the game didn't have so many bugs and glitches i'd reconsider my opinion...
I mean the holy grail wouldn't have flaws would it?It would be perfect in very way shape and form...I think.. :P

Saint's Row 3 isn't competition at all, it's probably the weakest of the trillogy.

That's what's amazing. Even with the bugs and glitches Skyrim is still a fantastic experience and very involving.
The people who complain about the bugs ruining it are usually the people who have never played it (Not saying you)
The combat in the game isn't very good, so no. AAllxxjjnn
This was the biggest complaint with Oblivion, and I'm surprised that it wasn't something that was more focused on in Skyrim.
Not really. GOTM perhaps. But it's getting its a** spanked by Dark Souls which itself is vastly inferior to its spiritual prequel.
Amazing game. Portal 2>>>>>>>>Skyrim+Dark Souls+Uncharted 3The entire RPG genre is so **** over-rated. Seriously. Anyone remember Portal 2?
speedfreak48t5p
If I had the choice to experience either Portal 2 or all these 3 games I would take Portal 2 EASY even if I never got to play the others EVER!

I approve this statement.
Skyrim is good and it's definitely a step up from Oblivion, but it still a very weak/shallow role-playing experience compared to the hundreds of RPGs I have played since the 80s. There are so many technical and gameplay-wise flaws that I don't think it deserves the GOTY award, not when there are many superior games released this year. ;)

Thank You![QUOTE="speedfreak48t5p"][QUOTE="themajormayor"] Amazing game. Portal 2>>>>>>>>Skyrim+Dark Souls+Uncharted 3Thank You! i loved portal 1, i found the second to be so boring, i gave up. Stephen Merchant probably should win best voice acting for his performance as wheatley though. Eh, no matter how many GOTY it gets, I still won't play it. It's just not for me.funsohngI agree with this.

Thank You!Portal 2 is quite simply STELLAR game design. This is the kind of game that deserves to be recognized. I'm happy for the people that are enjoying Skyrim, but it isn't without its faults. The fact of the matter is that a lot of people are unhappy with the bugs. In addition to the framerate issues, the game also can get boring to look at--as it just tends to look ALL t he same.
Now, pair that up with Portal 2, and somebody tell me something that game does wrong.

Nothing! 100% flawless game. People will say replayability which is the most stupid argument I've ever heard.ITT: haters who dont like skyrim as much as others who want to voice their opinions for why skyrim isnt as good of a game as millions of people and countless reviewers say it is

I actually forgive the bugs considering how rare they are and how polished it is in comparison to most Bethesda titles. It still kicks me to the desktop every hour, which is excessive, but still its great.
I do think it is a tad over praised though. It is an amazing game, beautiful, fun, balanced, full of content and story and life throughout the world. It makes a few missteps though that just sort of keep it from perfection in a gameplay standpoint. Combat is meh at times, difficulty is way too easy except for odd sharp spikes, characters don't have any sort of change or dynamic to them (which is especially prevalant in followers, who all pale compared to the exceptional companions from Fallout New Vegas and Mass Effect in personality and uniqueness), voice acting still has that same weirdness of many characters sounding exactly the same, and its just these little niggles that all add up for me.
I love the game, but its not perfect, and its definitely not Game of Forever or whatever lame titles people are giving it.
Weirdly enough, thinking of how awesome Fallout 4 will be kind of ruins it. I've always preferred Sci Fi to Fantasy settings, and while this is my first Elder Scrolls, I've beaten every damn Fallout game except the crappy Brotherhood of Steel on PS2.

It got boring to you, which is fine, as not everything works for everybody. However, it is a MUCH better put together game than Skyrim is.

Nothing! 100% flawless game. People will say replayability which is the most stupid argument I've ever heard. I dont see how its a bad argument, I absolutely loved Portal 2, stayed up all night with my buddy playing co-op, but after we beat single player, co-op, and then months later the DLC, there is just literally Nothing to do in the game. Puzzles cant be replayed and have the same challenge. That being said, Skyrim has its flaws too. It has meh animations, dumb AI, bugs, and strange anomalys. Is Portal 2 by definition a better game than Skyrim? Yes. Will I play Skyrim longer than Portal 2, possibly even replaying it? Yes. The factor of replayability is taken into GOTY decisions. Portal 2 is a wonderful game, but it is lacking in this key area. Still, I would like to see GS give Portal 2 GOTY to avoid the stupid threads on this forum were UC, Geow, or Skyrim to win.[QUOTE="themajormayor"][QUOTE="Heirren"]Nothing! 100% flawless game. First of all there are more to do like time challenges for every puzzle. Still it's a stupid argument. I don't see how the game is worse because it's not as enjoyable the fifth time. No game I can't think of is. I always judge a game on my first playthrough always! Unless I find obvious flaws I didn't think about first. But this argument is like saying I watch this movie 6 times and I got tired with it then so it's a bad movie even if the first time it was good. Enjoy it for the game it is. It has perfect replayability. Can you give me any idea how they could have increased the replayability? It's like Uncharted 2. Short SP campaign but still perfct lenght for that game. It's either short and perfect or long and dragged out. Doesn't make the game worse just different approaches.Portal 2 is quite simply STELLAR game design. Being the best gaming ever made... Metal Gear Solid 4 is naturally the holy grail of gaming.

Of course. Its far from perfect. Its a lot of fun and a fantastic improvement over older TES games but not perfect.
A great way of putting it from Eurogamer is that the characters in the game don't feel like they live outside your actions. Its like they are all waiting for you to tell them what to do or you are the driving force behind all the characters in the game.
not like the witcher 2 where it really feels like the world is alive even when you're not in it.
The characters are the area Bethesda needs to nail to perfect the game. Then move to combat. Those two things need improvement but Skyrim is a great step in the right direction.
how's that lag...still terrible huh?"Holy grail" is a laughable analogy. There's so much to work on in Bethesda games.
