The 3DS had quite a banner year last year. It is still supported very well. Just to share some examples of games released last year for the system:
Fire Emblem Fates, Pokemon Sun/Moon, Monster Hunter Generations, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocolypse, Rhythm Heaven Megamix, Kirby Planet Robobot, Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma, Bravely Second: End Layer, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice, Dragon Quest VII, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros., Project X Zone 2...
And more. The 3DS was supported very well in 2016 with both multiplatforms and exclusive releases.
Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocolypse- a little over 600,000 copies sold
Rhythm Heaven Megamix- only sold 200,000 outside of JP (it sold over 700,000 in jp)
Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma- sold pretty poorly on the 3DS, although if it did well in sales it's cause it's on 3 platforms
Project X Zone 2- sold a little over 400,000 world wide
Fire Emblem Fates, Pokemon Sun/Moon, Monster Hunter Generations, Kirby Planet Robobot, Dragon Quest VII, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros were the only ones that actually sold pretty well (in fact really well). If you want to go into quality and not sales then you can scratch half of that pos list
