Joystick tries out NXE.(Their impressions.)

Joystiq have gotten a chance to try out the New Xbox Experience. There are some quibbles, namely that you still can't set your default online status and some elements -- like Netflix -- are oddly placed. Even with the quibbles though, the pros seems to outweigh the cons. The NXE is fast, Avatars are easy to create, and the new party system allows players to jump from game to game with ease. Best of all, according to Joystiq, is the new guide, which recreates the original Blades system. The guide allows all the same functions as the current dashboard, even allowing you to launch another game from within one already being played (and allowing you to take your party with you).

It all sounds pretty sweet to us. Oh, and it's fast. Head over to Joystiq for their full impressions.

It seems they've taken one of the features that I liked on the PS3 and transfered it onto the Guide Button a.k.a Dashboard.(The ability to go into another game while you're already in one.)

All I need to know is if the installing of a game to hdd will help with texture pop in with games like Mass Effect and Gears.

Im liking the new update, it's faster thats great, looks cool, party system sounds great, netflix, and the biggie full installs.

I have around 80gb left on my elite HDD and i could easily delete 15gb of demos so i will be installing several games on the hdd and switching from one to another in seconds without dropping my controller.

Im liking NXE.

I have to say I'm looking forward to it personally. It sounds great, and I hope the cons will not outwieght the pros like they say. The party system sounds good, and so do other features, but I think the interface looks a lot better than the "blades" too.

I can't wait to install Dead Rising and Lost Odyssey on my HDD.Bentham

That was my plan as well, but considering when the update launches (11/19) I will probably be on Fallout 3 at that point.(I have both Fable 2 and Fallout 3 on preorder, but I am letting my brother borrow Fallout right away because I don't like jumping in and out of two epic single player games at once.

Why not just buy an external hard drive and save your games in it? It's what I do. 500gb external hard drive for less than $100

There is a difference between being forced to sit through what is essentially an extended loading time while you are playing or when you first put the disc in as opposed to having an option of ripping the game to your HD whenever you have the time.

However, I don't know why everyone makes such a big deal about the PS3 installs, whenever they popped up in MGS, I would just go the bathroom or get a snack, not a big deal at all.

You need a special HDD for that. I have a 250GB External HDD, but it doesn't work with my 360, only my PC.

Um, the PS3 installs are MANDITORY. 360 installs are OPTIONAL. very simple to figure out who's doing it right. ;)

LO could potentially be 8.5gb per DVD x 4... 34GB!!!! Even when you install PS3 games, you still have loads. Installing 34gb from DVD is gonna take a LONG time and it will destroy anything but a 120gb HDD. Not to mention that you could still have loads.

I think people will be amped about installing to HDD until they see one game taking up 8 gigs of space. Once they learn that they can't install the game and then sell it to someone else since you still need the disc to play it, they'll be even less interested in doing it.

Thats 100% BS for one reason: there are no OPTIONAL installs on PS3. Its mandatory. If you purcahsed a 20gb PS3... you got screwed. If you purcahsed a 40gb... you're screwed. With the 360 you can at least say, "I don't care about DLC or downloading movies so I don't need a big HDD." The PS3 forces you to be like, "I don't care about games so I don't need a big HDD"... which I don't think is something thats true for people buying video game consoles.

And its not like only no name games have installs. GTA4, DMC4, MGS4, GT5P... if a PS3 to play the latest versions of great PS2 franchises, you're screwed unless you just purcahsed a PS3 (now that 80gb is standard) or you purcahsed a $500+ PS3.

when your in a party and someone starts up a game, does everybody need have the same game? so like im in a party of 4, i put in GeOW2, do the other three dudes need to have the game?

And

is there something on inside xbox about it?

quick answer. 360 Arcade model. You can't alienate the people who have the 360 arcade.

The New Xbox's don't sound loud at all. Believe me, I have a launch xbox, and a xbox 360 60gb. They sound totally different.

actually yes... if its reading the game off the hard disk then it'll load like sh*tloads
faster u wont even believe your eyes... here's some good info for u...

20x DVD read rate (fastest a dvd could possibly read)
27 MB/s

Sata HDD read rate (of course the xbox 360 would use sata at the least)
1.5 GB/s - 6.0 GB/s

so in other words, reading it off the hard disk will make it load at least 55x faster (hence, something like gta4 would probably load the entire map fully in half the time). all this while making the only noise source the fans
