[QUOTE="slothboyadvance"][QUOTE="sSubZerOo"][QUOTE="slothboyadvance"][QUOTE="sSubZerOo"][QUOTE="colmusterd28"][QUOTE="Udsen"]Colmustard I just can't take you seriously. You state you "don't want to start a war" only because you know PC gamers could rip you a new one.sSubZerOo
You really think that some kid shouting tech jargon at me intimidates me...? you sorely missunderestemate me...
Come up with some real reasons for crying out loud.. The reasons you have been stated are false because you CAN do it with the computer... Maybe if you gave some legitimate reasons such as prefering certain genres that are only on consoles, split screen etc.. Stuff that the pc has trouble doing, then I could at least take your post seriously.
Woah, woah, woah... woah... woah...
What's this now, PCs have trouble doing split screen? Why?
As in splitscreen multiplayer, being able to play off one system with multiple people... Though I think its a trade off, sense PC does have the best online multiplayer out there in both customizability, quality, content and it being free.
i think seroius sam has split screen, but its very rare on pc gaming
Well, I would take all of those over split screen any day (for most games).
But what I'm wondering is: Why can't PC's do split screen?
Its not that they can't its just close to 0% of games out there support it.. I am indifferent as a PC gamer one of my favorite games was Marvel Ultimate Alliance on the Xbox360 with 3 other friends. Then again no console has my beloved Freespace 2 either, so there is always a trade off in numerous areas..
serious sam has splitscreen, but yes, its extremly rare on pc gaming
This is a blog entry in a post. Congratulations, you've allowed your unfounded preconceptions to blind you to an endlessly flexible, open, and entertaining plaform? I should point out since you've used the word "novelty" that gaming came out of PCs - consoles are strange novelties for most of the world, and when what you currently call "consoles" finishes dying in three generations, "novelty" they shall remain.
But whatever, game on what you want, I can only offer my pity.
[QUOTE="colmusterd28"]Whoa whoa... Im the consumer here... Why should I cater to the dev... We're taking about games right? shouldn't they be providing me with the great experience...? I know some of us are "hardcore" gamers... some of us are parents with careers, and mortgages... I have absolutly zero desire to even get near a "learning curve" on a great game experience. I pop a game in the tray and start playing... done. By no means am I a casual gamer either. I love all genres and I take pride in my 25 plus years in this hobby... I'm just not about to jump through hoops of any difficulty to play games...
SeanBond
Exactly. I remember jumping through hoops trying to get the original Battle for Middleearth to work on my computer, and I couldn't even get it to run on my brother's even though his was newer and had better hardware. If I popped the same game into my 360, I'd be certain it would work, and although the game would obviously not be quite on the PC version's level, running it hassle-free is important. The fact of the matter is, my computer pisses me off enough during everyday use that I'd rather not have to deal with it everytimeI play a game...
Yes but there is a difference buddy.. Oblivion and Baldur's Gate 2.. Oblivion is so severely dumbed down that a 8 year old can beat it effectively.. Not so for Baldur's Gate 2, the game was not only challenging, fun, with a pretty deep story.. But it did not catter to every one.. And please do not bring casuals into the mix.. In my mind there are the lazy, the people who don't have the time, and the people who are not lazy.
And on top of that if you have any iota of what your doing with the pc you can avoid it. My new set up has ran bug free on 99% of all games for the past4 years.. Even when adding a new upgrade or two. I have never had a experience where I could not play a game.
I also would like to say the fact of the matter is sometimes the computer can be more difficult.. But there are also tons more you can do with its games.. For one every game has at least a dozen mods for it that can change numerous aspects.. In the end its a trade off.. You chose dumbed down version that doesn't give you any freedom when compared to the PC version, though there is more garentee that it will work at times.
And please do not bring casuals into the mix.. In my mind there are the lazy, the people who don't have the time, and the people who are not lazy.sSubZerOoCasuals are lazy? You mean those that do not have the time to sit and understand a set of D&D rules created by a group of unemployed, unsociable bearded men who ripped of LotR and every other fantasy great and mixed in into one great big melting pot and called it a day? The same 'lazy casuals' who have to work their asses off to put bread on the table for their family, when they probably would love the opportunity to get to learn the intricacies of a leisure activity that many people on here seem to have the time for, yet don't have the time to go do 30 minutes a day of exercise? If you're going to pigeon hole casuals as lazy people, I'm sticking up for them through and through.

When did I say casuals were lazy? I said people who do not have time or lazy, are usually the ones that are for consoles.. Not always bot alot of times yes. What does this have anything to do with your statement what so ever? Good job stereotyping as well, I guess people can't bare to read and research something for more then an hour.. That must be just too much time in one spot..
"In my mind they are lazy, the people who don't have the time, and the people who are not lazy". -- I hope I'm wrong in my comprehension, but to me you said casuals were lazy. No, I can't bare to read and research for more than an hour. If you have the time, fill me in though. I have a fair bit of paper work to do right now, and coming here was to vent off some steam whilst I'm on the computer. So yeah, sorry I can't read and research right now. I didn't mean to fall short of your standards. When did I say casuals were lazy? I said people who do not have time or lazy? What does this have anything to do with your statement what so ever? I actually trade in the mods for the games that either don't come out for the PC (most Japanese games), or the ones that come out late (Gears) to extremely late (Halo 2 and 3?). As I'm more interested in the games on the consoles, giving up mods in exchange for less of a hassle works for me.

He said "There are" not "They are". Gotta work on those reading skills mate =). Or maybe take your time to read a little slower lol.
Your over 25 and you are able to find a large number of games that appeal to you on consoles? I envy you because I always feel console games are targeted at teens with the exception of a few. Some appeal to people of all ages but others are just make me feel like I'm having a mid-life crysis. On PC I feel there is less games that try to be "cool" (what teens consider cool anyway) and attract the teen audience. I probably didn't explain that well.JimmyT2
Yeah, you must have not explained that well, because all I read was a bunch of ignorance. I don't know what age has anything to do with console gaming.
I'm 29, and find a TON of console games appealing. And a lot of those games are from Nintendo. The same games that most little kids around here categorize as "kiddie". And I find a bunch of games on the pc appealing too. I enjoy playing games, and kind of games. So as long as that games is well made, and fun, I don't care who it is targeted at.
So yeah, if you envy the topic post(or me for that matter), for being an older gamer and finding a lot of games on consoles appealing, then you really need to expand your gaming horizons. Stop focusing on if a game is trying to be "cool"(which I have no idea what you mean by this) or not, and just have fun playing it.

ahhhh.... truth.... system wars, come drink from the fountain....

Hey if you can enjoy games aimed at a teenage or younger audience more power to you and as I said I envy people like you. I wish I could roll back the clock but when I play games with music/slang/themes that are way past my time I can't help feeling I'm having a midlife crysis and wanting to be younger then I am. I don't like that feeling so I avoid games that make me feel that way. Posting on these forums makes me feel bad enough as it is and I really need to stop doing it.

Don't get a PC.
The reason you can't take the PC seriously is because you don't want to be involved in what it encompasses. What you have described in this thread is exactly the type of customer that Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo want to provide their services to, at the prices they set, and the control they excercise. Go buy all three consoles and don't trouble yourself with the PC.
Leave PC gaming to other gamers that enjoy the PC being an open platform. A platform that provides the opportunity to build or select your own custom rig, advance gaming technology, and also allows a community of gamers to show creativity by designing mods maps, and distribute online gaming and content for free.
You sound like the perfect gamer for a closed box, controlled by a corporation whichdictates control, limits your choice, markets their product commercially, and is out to profit from peoples refusal to expandtheir knowledge.
What you describe is what most people want. And there is nothing wrong with that. It is personal preference.
I prefer chairs over couches. First of all playing with joystick on couch is horribly uncomfortable(you need desk for that). Second...I prefer more brain-intensive games and you do concentrate and think better when in a good chair than on a couch.AdrianWerner
im 100% computer fps game nut. my latest consists of a 8800gtx and i drool everytime i see a new hyped game load in and finaly witness what tech in this day and age has to offer ie crysis . Even if gameplay sucks a bit, the graphix is to die for. bioshock is by far one of the best games i have ever played ever( most fun ). getting to the point, dont kill me but i was thinking of kicking my self in the a$$, and getting me a PS3 ( i wont anymorebut the thought did lick my mind) even if i hate consoles.
Here it is .I work 9 hours a day on a desk cooped up in an office 2 * 2 and the computer screen during the 9 hours is a vampire sucking my eyeballs and frying my brain cells . so lately when i get home so tired of sitting on a chair i just want to plummet in a couch . i cant even conceive that i sit once again infront of a computer , yet the only thing on my mind during the rest of the day is loading up on UT3 .
so in one time millisecond i thought why not buy a ps3 and load up on UT3 while laying down on my comfy couch . why a ps3 why not 360 or wii . because power i find that comes closest to a mid range pc is a ps3 . 360 doesnt come close and wii (dont even get me started on that wierd rectangular brick) shaking your hands for something unnatural is not my idea of spending quality time playing mature games. little kiddies rejoice but i cant see my self ever doing that.
if your replying to my post then i have rigd my rig to my plasma 50 inch but as one of the past posts claimed the picture is not clear . id rather see it in all its crystal glory than play it on my tv. its like watching an excelent movie on a pirated cam copy . i just have to make time to play . thats all .i am never going console thats for sure.
