Depends on how educated they were.  Those of my friends that I went to school with understood perfectly, and many actually changed their opinion.  Those that weren't (or liberal arts majors ;) ) continued to rant about being "gouged" or how "big oil" was out to get them.  This was even after I explain the nature and realities of the commodities market in which crude oil and gasoline futures are traded, and supply/demand line problems inherhent in the oil and gas industry.   Of course this debate is for another forum.   I have no qualms with current gasoline prices and understand full well why they are the way they are and why they are at or lower than they were 20 or 30 years ago.

  Yeah, I heard the same rant on Rush, but wondered why he didn't talk about inflatiion when discussing the market.

Call me weird, but when I bought the PS3, I sure wasn't thinking:  "This is actually cheaper than the Atari2600 my dad bought for me....if I adjust for inflation"

Tell you what, there's an easy way for you to understand the harsh realities of inflation.  Stop paying your Federal Income Taxes for the next 5 years.  When you get that little nastygram from the IRS, calmly explain to them that the substantial amount they added to the total constituting Inflation based accrued Interest is totally unfair and that this "inflation nonsense" nothing more than something Sony fans conjured up on Gamespot's System Wars forum.  I'm quite sure they'll be very receptive.

Are you saying the 360 has failed?  Or are you going to do the fanboy thing and lay its success at the feet of the $299 model which nobody is buying?

But by all means, please continue to compare the PS brand to unproven brands in the console race offering more expensive consoles which no added features and fewer games.

LosDaddie

The price of entry for the x360 is $300. No matter what Kaz tells you at night, that is a fact not a "fanboy thing".

But by all means, please continue to believe the PS3 is in the same position (if not better) than the PS2 was at this point. It's actually quite entertaining.

1) The 360 is a success purely based on the sales of the more expensive model.  Therefore it is a complete distortion to act like the $299 model is the "main" model.  It is further distortion to then claim, as you have, that consoles fail purely based on the price being above $300.  The 360 that is dominating sales right now is over $300.  The fact that they have a cheaper model is made irrelevant because of extremely low sales.

2) I never said the PS3 is in the same position as the PS2.  In fact, search every post I've ever made and you will not find any such claim EVER.  You are clearly attempting to spin my words because you can not come up with a rational and logcial defense to my claims.  Just because I say the PS3 is in a different position than the 3D0 or cd-i or neo-geo does not mean I am automatically arguing what you claim I am arguing.  To even imply otherwise is a lie and the actions of just another irrational fanboy...which I think you have already proven yourself to be in this thread...beyond any doubt.

So I thank you for going out of yoru way to prove my initial claims correct.  You are clearly just another fanboy hiding behind your blind consumerism.

And after all the effort, you still haven't realized that I treat MS no better than I treat Sony. I just didn't come out and say it. LosDaddie

So...you make numerous posts bashing and attacking and condemning Sony, none towards MS, and then you claim you don't treat MS better than Sony?  Seems to me you have proven, beyond doubt, that you treat Sony better.

And you must have stuck your head in the sand in 2005 if you think X360 fans weren't complaining about the lack of a standardized HDD. I almost got banned at the xbox.com forums for my opinion on the subject. But I guess in your version of reality, x360 fans were quite happy with MS' decision.

AH, yet another sign that you are a fanboy hiding behind your possessions.  The rewriting of history...backed by what happened on some other forum.  While you are at it, would you like to defend your favorite game by finding out what xboxfanboys.com rated it?

So far your arguements to me have been: (1) Despite my hypocritical actions, I am not a hypocrit because in my mind I treat all companies equally, and (2) You are clueless about history because you have not searched out one single website that backs my arguement and acted as if it applies to the whole internet.

Awesome. Much to my surprise, it seems you are capable of thinking on your own. :)

That makes one of us.

Personally, I think anyone who doesn't think Sony lied about the PS2's capabilities is not living in reality.

Do you ever back up your claims with evidence or do you just listen to what other fanboys say and think that because they say it lots and really loud, it must be fact.  As a wise man once said, opinion without evidence is called prejudice.  You seem to be displaying that with every post you make.

You also forgot to include the fact that he believes fundamental rules of economics, such as inflation, does not apply Gaming Consoles.

Well, to be fair, I treat economics with about as much respect as I treat ghosts and aliens.  Economists seem to display all the same traits as fanboys here...they make up their mind first, then cherry pick little indicators they believe support their predisposed view while downplaying any contradictory indicators.  As far as i'm concerned, anybody who believes there is such a thing as an "externality" may as well be telling me they believe in ghosts and aliens.

But that is another arguement for another day.
