Analysts say the window is closing for Sony's opportunity to turn themselves around. Given that we are 2 years intoa generation, which normally last 7, I can see their point.

There is nothing to turn around. Sony is doing the exact same thing they did with the PS2 and PS1. It's the price that have people panties and Ninja Turtles underwear in a bunch.

Except that the competition this time around is offering a better game library.
The PS2 had the advantage of a more diverse and larger library, they don't this time around.

Lol ok, let's be 100% honest here. There were 3 games that were supposed to resurrect the Playstation 3 this holiday season, Lair, Heavenly Sword, and Uncharted. So far, 2 of them have flopped (1 horribly). Genji was hyped through the roof by Sony and it turned out mediocre.
I have little to no faith in Sony as a first party provider anymore, Uncharted will land in the A-AA range I suspect. TGS is where all the chips come down. Let's see how good this 3rd party support is going to be, the PS1 and PS2 were built on 3rd party support, so far there is very little for the PS3.
PS3 will not die,
but it will also never catch up.
3rd place is where it'll stay.
360 and Wii are too far ahead and are running in full speed.

lol 11 mouths desides how many good games there will be. how about 30 exclusives alone from sony first party. now what. or the fact is sony has the largest first party out of the 2 combined.GARRYTHlol 11 mouths desides how many good games there will be. how about 30 exclusives alone from sony first party. now what. or the fact is sony has the largest first party out of the 2 combined.
Uh, Lair? Genji? That's a first party I don't want to be associated with.
First thing: Analysts suck. No really, they are almost always wrong. And will you just have some paitience and wait for the PS3 to get it's killer apps (yes, plural) out. Shouldn't be too long bewfore the surge starts...ShmenonPie
(More) tick, tick, tick.
Look, I'm all for PS3 to get going. And Blu-Ray, for that matter. But it isn't happening. I don't think this is a report on dominence. It is more a business report on the success of Sony in the console market. PS3 won't dominate. That oasis you can go ahead and forget. And if you don't think that Sony is fighting for survival here, you are kidding youself.
The report doesn't say it WILL happen, it says it MIGHT happen. They need a killer app and quick. Otherwise, despite what you want to believe, this could be Dreamcast the sequel.

No thanks I would rather play games instead of waiting.
how can you say this. ther eonly at 10 million or 11 million while were sat 4.5 million almost only half way. what if from 2008 and on the ps 3 sells more than wii and the 360 mouth to mouth bases. 140 million has not gone next gen yet. you guys don't see this at all do you.PS3 will not die,

The Wii's library isn't anything special either and it already surpassed the X360 in sales.

Bad logic. because competition is stronger = Sony is weaker? Correct your fallacy. Sony actually has grown to be a better gaming company than recent years. Look at the number of 1st party games. A better online service. PS3 is the most reliable console this gen. Did you forget about the PS2 problems? Sony studios is the 4th largest gaming company behind EA, Ubisoft, and Epic. They have also grown a bigger relationship with PC based developers to support their system. Sony has grown.

The Wii is selling on the basis of the remote technology, not it's games.
It's targeting a larger audience that the Xbox 360 isn't necessarilly i.e. typical nongamers.

again i did not now that ps 2 in it's first 11 mouths had all it's games. come on people 7 year console of course it will have better games. the dreamcast had better games than the ps 2 in its first 11 mouths did it not. and the dreamcast outsold it untill the following xmas. the ps 2 servive because of the games on a mouthly bases from the time it launched. so you icnore the 30 eclusive from there first party are you saying none of those will be better than any ps 2 game or 360 game or a wii. i would like you to list the exclusives from the 360 or wii that will = to 30 exclusives becuse i can. rock star is making two eclusives now. that won't help. considering how huge they are.Bad logic. because competition is stronger = Sony is weaker? they're catering to the cauals and kiddies.
mass produce party games and lure in their crowds with motion sensor.

So it's the waiting game again then.
It all comes down to games, and the PS3 is lagging, and will be unless MS and Nintendo screw up.

I believe I just said that.
wtf the consoles been out 11months.Be real sony still have the ps2 to fall back on for a few years so theyre still in a good position money wise.i know its like beating a dead hourse but it seems like 2008 is going to make or break the ps3 in terms of rapidly gaining ground on the 360 through the mid part of the generation. Its not going to be the end of the playstation put it that way,but they will lose a chunk of their dominance.k-diddy66

Excuse me? What does launch dates have to dowith this? What is the point? NO 3rd party developer left Sony. I repeat, NO 3rd party developer left Sony. Sure, Sony is now sharing the games, but they are still on the PS3. In fact, PS3 still has the most 3rd party support in the industry.

The Wii is selling great because of its price. $200-$250 is the sweet spot when selling consoles. You honestly think the PS3 would be selling like crap if it was priced at the same price point of the X360?
edit: Just like the Wii wouldn't sell if it was priced at $600

Not to mention, the death of hardcore gaming. You'll only find that on the PC. If Sony goes, the gamer industry will get hit hard. And that can be said about MS and Nintendo. If any of them go, gaming won't ever be the same again.

The other hole in the ship is the attach rate. I think this goes to the fact that not everybody that bought a PS3 did so to play games. Some did it for the BR player. This could mean that their NPD numbers could be viewed by the Devs as false positives, meaning that there isn't the market there to buy their game.
That's the one thing I always said about the 360 - even though it is marketed towards the hardcore, you know they will buy you games if the games are of some quality.
The reality is, Sony leaving the console market is not unforseeable. Stockholders will only bear so much loss with the promise of future earnings. Sony stockholders have proven this in the past (MiniDisk). A dead last finish, with a small market share and a 2 billion (and counting) loss does not bode well for the console production division. I wouldn't be surpised if this trend were to continue, that Sony pulls a Sega and starts releasing their successful brand of software titles on other consoles. That would be good business sense.
