Just played SOCOM, how can anyone think PSN is better than Live?

Seriously, it totally boggles my mind how anyone who has played on XBL can think PSN is on par or in any way exceeds XBL as a service. Playing SOCOM was a nightmare. I popped it in, had to install it to my hard drive. Fine, whatever. System restarts, I have to update my game (I could have sworn SOCOM just came out barely a few days ago). System restarts. Then I'm told I need to do a system update. Wow, REALLY starting to get tedious. One of these updates was a mere 473 MBs and it took me probably 10 minutes to download it. No, there is no problem with my internet connection as I never have slow connection issues on my PC or on XBL.

So after all is said and done I finally get to play the game. Shrotly after hitting the title screen I'm hit with an error message that says my data is corrupt and I need to reinstall the last update or my character's profile won't be saved. Dandy. I decide to hell with it, I've already been waiting an hour to play I can live without saving my guy's profile. I tried to join probably 3 or 4 different lobbies before finally getting into one. I kept 'failing to join lobby' for some inexplicable reason.

The only reason this wasn't blogged is because I see a lot of people on here constantly saying PSN is equal in service, speed and functionality to XBL. This is FAR from the truth. I am NEVER buying a game I plan to play with online multiplayer for this system ever again.

PSN is equal in service to XBL only to PS3 fanboys who don't have a clue how smooth & feature rich XBL is.

I've had problems with playing games online on both XBL and PSN. I really don't think anybody will ever beable to do an entirely fair comparison of both services to determine which one is better.

lol, i do not solely support 360 or PS3, but just to let you know, that is an occurrrin problem with the new Socom release, it is not the PSN's fault it is Slant Six's fault, let us not forget that GTAIV had its own problems when it was released, and just like the GTAIV problem, not everyone experiences it

PSN is what happens when you don't have an online game plan, and you shoehorn online into your system at the last minute just to add it as a feature bullet point on the back of the box.

XBL was integrated into the system's OS since the first Xbox. MS knew online would be a major way of playing games and so the 360 is designed around it. The PS3 was designed around a Blu-Ray player.

Try playing COD4 or Burnout Paradise online (well polished games). They work great.

I had the SOCOM beta, and I've never seen so many issues in a game before, I hear they're still having server issues.

I'm pretty sure that when PS3 was announced, they had planned to make an online network for it. Link to prove otherwise?

Why did you restart your PS3 after installing the game and then after updating the game? Don't let hyperbole overrun your point, it makes you look foolish. Yeah, getting everything set up for SOCOM was a pain but I haven't had any problems hence. And as for PSN, it doesn't have the features that XBL does but the games themselves play just fine.

Ok because you need to install updates thats mean xbl is better than psn i don't understand why updates have to do with xbl and psn those are patch games not psn or live things, by the way you are a liar because first the game needs instalation and update but then the ps3 say to you you need a system update, umm thats imposible because you need to first do the frimware before you need any updates, so thats make you a troll.

Yeah, but before the PS3 was released did they have a plan for in-game XMB, trophies, life with playstation etc? Hell no, theyre things they saw in the 360, Wii that were successful and said lets do a version of that! And thats how we have PSN, which is basically just a merge of numerous applications.

might have something to do with MS making software and Sony being mostly a hardware expert. none of their online services have ever been rock solid.

Most of the times I played online on my PS3, either the connection got disconnected or I experience horrible lag. But I haven't experienced any problems while playing on LIVE. That's just my experience, but then again I don't play online alot so I might be wrong.

Trust me, it's not Sony or PSN. It's /6's problem. I played the beta for a month and they still couldn't fix this crap right away. It's gettng better and better. But please don't let your ignorance mislead other people. This isn't Sony's problem.

Try playing COD4 or Burnout Paradise online (well polished games). They work great.

I had the SOCOM beta, and I've never seen so many issues in a game before, I hear they're still having server issues.

RotaryRX7

lol how is socom the worst represntation possible for PSN? A game that was designed solely for the PS3, and PSN architecture sucks, and you say its the worst representation possible. the game is only Multiplayer, and thats pretty sad when they fail that hard. MGSIV had terrble MP too, and guess what its Konamis fault. its actually Sonys fault for making multiplayer an after thought and just letting developers run wild, and do what they want. there is a reason why in the 4 years ive owned live i have never had a problem joining a game. MS designed live at the core of the 360 so developers are forced to not be lazy, and make garbage MP. i was actually going to buy Socom until the nightmares started to poor out. Look at the latest firmware update that allows you to screen capture any game...............opps i forgot no games support the function, but im sure in 9 months 2 games will have the feature. I bet MS could release that same feature, and could probably get it to work retroactively.

in the end just deal with it PSN will never be as good as xbox live. You get what you pay for.....or in this case you dont get what you dont pay for.

warhawk was the same when it first came out, and now look at it there are 0 problems with the game, it will probably take like a month or so to get it running really well but whatever. Its not like this is every ps3 game, like 95% of online psn games never have problems like this, and dont act like socom speaks for the entire psn experience because it doesnt

so you couldnt connect to some socom servers and its psn fault?

you happened to turn your ps3 on the day the new firmware update came so its the psn fault?

the data corrupted its psn fault?

sorry dude but thats just BS

creeping-deth87

How is that BS? I don't understand people's attitude towards how bad the service is. Stop defending it, it's terrible.

Not condoning what anyone else has said here but the PSN is not terrible. It's not as good as XBL but it's not terrible.

so this argument is pontless and stupid, 1. we can agree that in their currents states the psn is inferior to xbl, 2. having said this, it is not the psn's fault for the socom problems it is slant six's, and if it were a psn problem then chances are that it would not affect just one game during this period of time 3. one game does not represent a whole online network

It may be a worse service, but at least I don't have to pay for it.

Buts its sony's and PSNs fault that slant six have to run their own online. Its PSNs inability to do it for them that causes these problems.

Socom is an example of horrible implantation by the developer...Considering it's an online only game Slant6 needed to be waaaay more on point......they failed...

Is it the end of the world?...no....they will patch it/optimize servers....

So....At the end of the day it's not really PSN fault....

SOCOM should have never been released in this state. It's buggy and embarrassing to Sony. Please don't judge the entire PlayStation Network because of your experience with this single game, which is the exception.

I don't judge Xbox live the days its down for maintenance.

If you happened to do some research, you would see that Socom is messed up right now and just about everyone is having trouble with it online, not being able to connect to servers, etc. Basing your experience of one game is ridiculous. I've played many online games on my ps3 from UT3 to CoD4 to Resistance to Haze (yes haze) and i've never had any horrible issues.

i think MS requires some things to happen when making a game for the 360. like the game has to work the day it comes out, and a few other little things.

because every other psn game that has had problems like this in the first few days was patched just a few days later? at most like a week or 2, im just saying.
