Kaz hirai: no more cheap prices, expect no compromises

according to kaz hirai himself SONY will no longer be trying to cheap out on anything. he said very clearly that SONY's market will be those with fat wallets and the mind required to spend it. what this means for us: expect impractical gimmicks in products and possibly even higher than anticipated prices for their yet to be products.

oh kaz also beleives that 4k resolution monitors wont really catch on until about 10yrs down the line.

While I can appreciate the quality and build quality of SONY products, and thus also the value behind them, I know that I am in the minority here, and that this is a dangerous thing (especially considering SONY's current financial status) to say and live by.

At least they didn't pick option 3 -- putting out a beast but taking massive losses to keep prices down to remain competitive. That would be even worse

What they can do is release a slow burner that pleases media / message boards which will slowly decrease in price over time as with PS3. It will be expensive, but not being sold at losses, thus it'll be relatively niche product.

Third option is to release hardware that makes the gaming community riot, but this way they can remain competitive at a good pricepoint,

The difference is, is that Sony at least has value in their products, Apple just overcharge and charge a stupidly high amount for the hell of it

Good luck, Kaz. Turning the PS3 around from its poor start once Kutaragi was dismissed was impressive, but fixing Sony is going to take years of changes to fix what it has been doing wrong.

PS1 sold well also because it was cheaper than Sega Saturn (alongside better-looking 3D games - 2D games looked better on the Saturn btw) and the PS2 because it was the cheapest DVD player on the market at the time. (besides being hyped as the 2nd comming, which is what essentially killed-off the Dreamcast despite it being competitive in both, games and graphics)

It's the smartest thing they can do, if this really happened... The one thing Sony has at their best over most others is quality. If quality won't save them, nothing will.
