Kaz Hirai: The PlayStation Will Regain its Lead

Mr Hirai said: "We've only really begun to scratch the surface with PlayStation 3 but I am confident that given the long life-cycle we have planned for the machine we are going to have a very good install base in all of the major territories.

In an interview with the BBC news, Kaz Hirai spoke of the future of the PlayStation 3 and claimed that the PlayStation 'will reclaim lead'

i think these companies need to take a step back and think things through a bit

sure it's nice to be number 1, especially after having tasted success, but sony should focus on making a profit and being successful in the business sense before focusing on top spot

otherwise the gaming division might turn into M$, guzzling money to become the console king and make a loss

Have they ANY idea how much technology will have advanced in 10 years? I mean Nintendo will most likely have pushed the term "gaming" even further, a new company might have joined the fray, Xbox will without a single doubt be on the offensive with a new developer friendly console.

Wow. Yet another topic about what the PS3 is "gonna do" at some undetermined point in the future. For once, let's live in the present.

The PS3 has been out since November 2006, which was 18 months ago, correct? Enough about what's going to happen in the future. Where are we right now? It's been a year and a half. Standing on its own, has the PS3 lived up to its billing? Don't divert the argument by pissing and moaning about the flaws of the competition. Judging the PS3 on its own merit, has it met the hype?
