Too bad CS:GO will not be cross-platform any more :(

You need all of the keyboard buttons for shortcuts in RTS. Gamepads are holding consoles back.DaBrainzWhen it comes to most of the other genres on consoles... not really.
From my own experiences:
Game genres best on keyboard and mouse: FPS, adventure, strategy/rts, RPG (as in Baldur's Gate)
Games best on controller: 3d platformer (Lara Croft and TGoL), 3rd-person action (Tomb Raider), sports
Games best with driving wheel and pedals: driving and racing games
Games best with joystick: flight sims and mech games.
Compared to a driving wheel and joystick, controllers suck for flight sims and driving games the least of which is no feeling of immersion. The keyboard and mouse is even worse.

I grew up on gamepads, so most of my FPS gaming was done post Halo:CE with Xbox controllers (occasional few on PS3 i.e. Killzone, Resistance, etc.). I haven't yet had the chance to get into a shooter game yet on the PC I built last month, but playing Skyrim has at least given me a sneak-peek to what it's like and the mouse element is great. The kicker is the keyboard - it just isn't as suitable for movement like a 360 degree joystick is.
Aiming with your thumbs is the stupidest $hit ever.
So mouse and keyboard for all shooting genres, as well as strategy and RPG games. Game pad is best for 2D platformers (3D platformers, depending on their style are also better with keybaord and mouse), fighting games, and sports games. Ford riving I prefer a wheel over gamepad.

I thought extended typing on keyboards (versus using a few keys) causes Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, not a mouse.

You're right. All the people who work all around the world, go to school, go to college and use the PC as an every day appliance hate using it for that reason. Oh wait...

Keyboards are amazing if you know keyboards well. There are so many buttons and I love that. I could see how people that don't know where keys are or can't multitask are so confused when it comes to gaming with a keyboard and mouse.tablets have too few buttons. Keyboards on the other hand have tooo fvcking many :(

Call me crazy, but I actually prefer game pads for shooters over M/K. I prefer game pads for everything, aside from RTS games.

Look at Crysis or Arma, those extra buttons are really handy. I do think arma used too many though.tablets have too few buttons. Keyboards on the other hand have tooo fvcking many :(
