Depends on the game. Mouse/keyboard completely poops on controllers for FPS games, and controllers are more suited for racing games as you can then choose how much you want to turn. Platformers aren't awful with keyboard and mouse (Psychonauts was great with it, for example) but controllers are usually more comfortable for those. Strategy games (like StarCraft) I can't even imagine playing with a controller.
So, I don't hate any control method. I'm good with both. I win.
I don't have an issue with either. I use both equally. At times, some games require mouse and keyboard and others require a controller. Other than that, both feel natural in my hands.
In games that feel better with it, I use the controller. And in games that feel better with mouse/keyboard, I use that. Simple as that.
ive just recently got a decent pc so i have started pc gaming but i cant get used to keyboard and mouse so i use my xbox controller
Some people's hands just have a certain inability to play fps with a mouse. The big problem with a controller is you have to use an analog stick. This doesen't allow you to move the crosshairs on the exact spot that you want unless you put the sensitivity extremely high. With a mouse with a very good dpi, your able to move the mouse to the exact postion creating a more perfect aim and overall more perccisse

I understand some games are better with a controller. Yes, because we poor consolites have never played a PC game.... Well you guys try. But after a round of CSS, you go back to games that aim for you ;)FPS are not only genre consolites play.
You find other genres like sports, fighting, racing, platform, action adventure are preferred and superior on a control pad erogonmicall and functionally with button placements. Also force feedback and wihout the need to rest them on a table..........so I wouldn't feel so bad for consolites.
Are you also comparing an console FPS game to PC FPS game or it's use of controls?

I prefer a mouse and keyboard for most genres, but really, it all depends on the game.
I'm finding Witcher 2 to be better for me on a controller for the most part, but wouldn't dream of using a controller on something like Fallout 3.
Yes, because we poor consolites have never played a PC game.... Well you guys try. But after a round of CSS, you go back to games that aim for you ;) Meh. ROFL, what the hell are you talking about?
I put over 2k hours into the game over the course of many years, throughout which the community was always extremely active in all gametypes outside like Bombing Run. Actually, I casually played VCTF for years. Even though it existed as an "unofficial" gametype and had only a small slice of the playerbase, you could find an active VCTF server at literally any time of the day.
Sure, now it's pretty dead when compared to most games, but UT2004 still has hundreds of servers running even today.
Edit: Yes, arena shooters seem to be dead for the moment, which sucks because games in the Quake and UT franchise were the pinnacle of the genre for me. UT2004 was the last "great" shooter, imo. I'm sort of just drifting from game to game trying to find something that can give me the same level of enjoyment.. not that I'm holding my breath.
Would you like some tribes ascend :D
yes actually..110 buttons is harder on the hands then a small gamepad with a few perfectly place buttons and 2 toggles.
VanDammFan
This is a joke, right?
Not only you need only 10 or so keys in an FPS, only 1 hand goes on the keyboard, the other goes on the mouse. This is non-negotiable, if you put both hands on the keyboard when playing an FPS you have no right to speak of controls period :|

WOW you serious bro? I had no idea what so ever..I must give that a try..
You changed platform, there's nothing to say that this problem you're having is due to the control scheme.I've heard quite alot on how keyboard and mouse are much better for fps's and such
I've recently started playing more shooter games on the computer and i'm finding it more difficult tbh,i normally feel more comfortable with a controller for shooters.

Not for me, I find PS3 controllers painful after a few minutes, they dig into my palms.Well, it takes some time to get used to the Mouse and Keyboard, just like it takes time to get used to a new controller, all i can say is, i hope you enjoy being owned in PC multiplayer games because thats exactly what will happen with a controller.
pelvist
The keyboard plays no roll in "owning" anyone. The mouse is the only thing that kills controllers. AND even then its nothing great. been there done it..

I'm not. You're probably just more used to controllers. It's the complete opposite with me.
I MUCH prefer controllers for every genre other than RTS and tactical RPGs. Yeah, kb/m grants more precision in shooters, but I honestly don't care. Controller are way more comfortable, and given the choice I'll always choose laying down on my couch with a comfortable controller as opposed to being hunched over a keyboard. Gaming is what I do for fun, its not a profession where optimal proficiency trumps all.

Okay, so if he sucks with one control scheme but not with another, then isn't he correct in using the one that works best for him?Using a keyboard sucks for games and is very uncomfortable. But using the mouse isn't so bad. I prefer to use a controller because i'm accurate with it and it's more comfortable.

Not even close. I know people who book vacation for Madden day months in advance. I would have taken GT5's release date off if I wasn't on call at the time.I played FPS on both console and PC... I get 10 times as many kills to deaths as I do on console. Thumb sticks are very in accurate. But I don't play to much online any more. To many cheaters and hackers.
KB/M = FPS, TPS, RTS, MMO, WRPG, PUZZLE, Adventure, Sim, Turn Based
Controller = Sports, Racer, Fighter, ActionAdventure, Platformer, Some puzzle types, Arcade types
----------------------------------
PC = can use both especially when you need to - like for racers/fighters/sports. Plugin whatever you like for games that need it.
Console = can't use both. especially when you need to - FPS like MW2 or TPS like ME2. You can't just plugin a kb/m for that game. You can't play RTS period. Can't play complex MMO period.

Says the guy who thinks you need 100 keys to play a FPS on a keyboard...
I find keyboards pretty horrid. I'm constantly pushing the wrong buttons and bending my hand in an awkward position. It seems pretty much impossible to play fluently on it._Cadbury_
I used to have a hard time with it many years ago. I would always hit the wrong buttons, so I found myself clicking everything instead, and using my scroll wheel to select weapons.
I learned when I played WoW, and got really into the PvP. Clicking just wasn't an option if you want to compete with the higher skilled players.
Now I can easily hit around 20 buttons with one hand, but I'm also very capable of also using both shift, and ctrl to do alternate hotkeys like "ctrl+2" or "shift+r" which opens me up to another 30 or so button combinations I can easily hit, so around 50 total with just one hand!
I don't know about bending my hand in an awkward position though. My hand rests on the keyboard just as it does when I type even when I'm playing games. You might be using it the wrong way :P It should feel incredibly natural just like typing does.

Can you blame me for assuming that after your comment about 100 keys on a keyboard being harder than "perfectly place buttons and 2 toggles"? You know, the 8th post on page 1, the post made by um, you...
Its ok to use 100 keys on a keyboard as an excuse for controller being better yet you know full well that you never use anywhere near that amount of buttons. So why say it in the first place? You like posting things that arent true and then arguing about them on internet forums?

YES I do like to post untrue things and then argue about them..thats me..and if the keyboard has 100+buttons then you will likely accidentally hit the wrong ones at some point. So yes having that many buttons IS an issue to me and others. Should I just go along with you and LIKE everything you like and NOT have my own opinion?...NEH, I dont think so..keyboards are for typing, like im doing now...gamepads are better, easier to learn and just more fun...fact bro...facts..;)
I prefer Wiimote + nunchuck over both systems in FPSs. Otherwise, it's heavily dependant on genre. RTSs and basically any game dependent on cursors are much better with keyboard and mouse, while I can only play platformers with controllers.

Oh I see, so first its the whole 100 buttons is too much for you reason and now its because theres SO MANY buttons that you might accidently press the wrong one... yeah, ok, that can happen, same as it can happen on a controller while your fiddling about with button combinations to do something that would normally take one keypress on a keyboard.
Since PC gamers have the option to use any control method they want in their games ( motion controller, joystick, keyboard and mouse, game pad, gamepad and mouse ect ) if controllers are so much better, so much more fun, then why are PC gamers playing their games on a Keyboard and Mouse instead of something else that is available to them and which according to you is more fun? Why do people usually prefer one thing over another? Because its BETTER than the other option, thats why.
So much for your made up facts.
it depends on the game, like sam and max, i first played on the computer and loved the game then i recently downloaded the free episode on the ps3 and playing with a controller is pretty annoying, so the game works great with pc and mouse since its a point and click game. Games like god of war, dmc, or yakuza i want my controller for. Also i wish and wish devs would start using the mouse and keyboard option of the ps3.
I grew up with consoles, my first and most FPS's were on N64 and the cube and such. But a good few years ago now, I started to really PC game. I was playing Counterstrike with my buddy and was quite frustrated. I insisted that it was awful and I didn't want to PC game at first, but after a short bit of pracitcing (it isnt gonna take a LONG time or anything) I got used to it and soon it is easy to see that PC is the clear winner, and while you may prefer a controller (no idea why), PC is more accurate and is simply better for FPS games. Keep playing my friend!

I play both PC and consoles. I NEVER hit the wrong button on PC. But recently I have been playing (A LOT!) of the uncharted 3 beta, and when I get into intense pistol fights I tend to hit the stick in and change my view, which is annoying.
PC is better hands down. You can prefer the controllers, but its worse :P.

hey dude..what ever helps you sleep at night..controller is more user friendly, more portable and MORE people use a gamepad to game with..
I wanna know how someone can think that moving a stick around with a thumb is more accurate than moving a hand around. It's almost like saying its easier to use the joystick on one of the claw grabbing games than it is to reach in (assuming the glass was not there) and grab the toy :P.
Or better yet, just look at RTS's on PC vs Console. Can you guess why consoles dont have many?
