So when I play GRAW and I switch between first and third person perspective its a differant genre? No not even a differant game!!!?? But a whole differnt genre in itself!!!!!!!!!!!!???????? Well bugger me backwards... You learn something differant every day..................

poptart

Where did I mention GRAW? You're just clutching at straws now. GeoW is in third person for the entire game, so how is it a first person shooter?

I played GRAW in first person perspective. I did a little in 3rd also. My point mentioning GRAW was that by your own definition I played the sames game but in 2 differant genres. Am i wrong?

But the main viewpoint of the game is 3rd person. You have the choice to change it, but the developers made it from a 3rd person perspective thus it be called a TPS.

Main viewpoint of the game or not - changing it it doesn't alter its genre. It's still the same game for f**ks sake

Not really, Reststance, and then 2, COD4 and 5, R6V and 2, most of them multiplat, but still good sahooters.

Killzone 2 is being hyped since its the best looking console game to date, and the gameplay looks stunning. The F)PS cover system is sooo cool.

Killzone 2 is a MUST have for FPS lovers, much like gears 2 is a kucst have for TPS lovers.

The thread's title says FPS, so we should only be counting FPS game (Shooters played only in the first person , for those that don't know. Go play Doom if you need a catch up). If you wanted to count shooters in general, you should have put that in the topic title.

Yes it does. That is why there is a genre called FPS and TPS. Get over it!

My point exactly! I hope KZ2 will be great, although I can't help but feel this exagerated hype is precisely because of the reason you've mentioned - 10 years of PS yet the only relevant FPS is one released within the last month or so.

ps owners don't just play with their ps console.... stop being close minded. Alot of console gamers are also pc gamers as well.

Well the PS2 had Red faction (one, they also had two but it sucked.) and Time Splitters..can't claim their bad. The PS3 tho? Yeah, nothing but god awful shooters so far. As KZ1 was a flop, I'd say they was clutching at straws with 2, very deprived right now..I mean look how happy they got over R2 online, most of that stuff we've had for years.

Oh I'm sorry. We'll move the camera 3 feet from the protagonists head and call it differnt genre shall we?

But you HAVE To consider that they are both different genres despite that they play very similiar , because by going with that logic I could count uncharted as a 'fps' or socom , mgs4 , warhawk , time crisis 4 , so if u think 3rd persons should be classified like a fps then the ps3 does not lack a decent 'fps' Oh and for some reason haze has not been mentioned once despite being an exclusive fps good or not lol

Genres are not defined by where the camera is placed. We both know that.

You have a shooter genre which is made up of a bunch of sub-genres which include FPS, TPS, tatical shooters, light gun shooters, etc.

A light gun shooter such as HOTD is vastly different from GRAW, R2 and halo - we both know that. Halo 3 is played in first and third perspective for a start. I'm not playing in a differant genre when I get into a vehicle in Halo 3 am I now? No. MGS4 is a differant genre I agree, but it's not principally defined by the angle of the camera is it now.... Otherwise we'd define pacman as a 'top-down gobble-em-up' wouldn't we?

Like it or not, that is the case. If you wanna consider Gears as an FPS, then Resident Evil, Ghost Recon:AW, Dead Space and many more should to. In some sense, Mass Effect was pretty much like an fps except for stats.

First of all, GeoW is NOT FPS.

PSOne got one of the greatest Exclusive FPS in it's day, MEDAL OF HONOR!Medal of Honor was fabulous, and created on PSONE!

PS2 had RedFaction1, Timesplitters1 and the series (Creators of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, HELLO!), Medal of Honor Series, Call of Duty series , and of course the sequels

PS3 has Resistance, COD4, Resistance 2, etc. Killzone 2, may or may not rock, but we will see. Killzone wasn't a bad game, it just wasn't great.

Does Xbox get MORE? Sure, but PS Owners haven't been DEPRIVED at all.

Halo 3 is a FPS. That short time in vehicles just not change its main formula as being a game being played through the eyes of the character 95% of the time. HOTD might be different from Halo, R2, GRAW, but it is still a game that is in 1st person view plus uses a light gun to play. I did not make these genres up.

RE and GeoW are miles apart for reasons not related to the angle of the camera. Do you really think playing GeoW in a first person perspective would have altered its genre? It's like playing GT4 with the camera either in-car or out-car - it's still the same game. As for Mass Effect, by your definition its a TPS right? Like GeoW right...

Yes, but by your definition then that short period of time in Halo when you jump in a vehicle alters the entire genre of the game. The Genre. You know and I know that's rubbish.

I stopped caring about this thread when the TC listed GeOW as an FPS.Seriously do people even know what the hell FPS mean anymore?FPS stands for First Person Shooter, you know those games where you play from your character's point of view, those are First Person games.GeOW is a TPS,Third Person Shooter,a game where you play from the third person perspective. Some people....

All this tells me is that you don't know what an FPS is. GeoW isn't a FIRST PERSON shooter. The change in camera angle doesn't change the genre (shooter), but it does change the sub-genre, which is why FPS and TPS are talked about differently. Look at your first post again. You clearly stated that you thought GeoW was an FPS, which it clearly isn't.

I love you too, poptart. You have always been one of my favorite "I'm in a rush and I don't have time for a proper breakfast" kinds of meals. I am surprised to see you post here in SW, but I'm glad a great speedy breakfast can be here with us as well. I'm still looking for Captain Crunch and we can all post together, and talk about old times!

There's little distiniction betwen an FPS and TPS. Come on - we both know that. The only differnece is that you see a head/body on the screen or you don't. The mechanics are the same. Let's not be facetious...

But that literally changes everything about your first post. :|

Using your very own logic, the PS3 now has: Uncharted, MGS4, GTA4, Resistance 1 and 2.

I know what an FPS is. The clue is in the title. Just answer me when I ask what other games would you put in this 'subgenre'.

It irks me when people say 'OOOOO we can't can't compare 'this' game to 'that' because on 'this' game you can see the players head rather than looking through his eyes'

'It must be alike a totally differant genre'

SolidTy

I love you

I love you too, poptart. You have always been one of my favorite "I'm in a rush and I don't have time for a proper breakfast" kinds of meals. I am surprised to see you post here in SW, but I'm glad a great speedy breakfast can be here with us as well. I'm still looking for Captain Crunch and we can all post together, and talk about old times!

:)

I think we've bonded

I stopped caring about this thread when the TC listed GeOW as an FPS.Seriously do people even know what the hell FPS mean anymore?FPS stands for First Person Shooter, you know those games where you play from your character's point of view, those are First Person games.GeOW is a TPS,Third Person Shooter,a game where you play from the third person perspective. Some people....Rockman999

You stopped caring enough to comment. Do you think I know 'what the hell FPS mean anymore"!!??? Do you really think GeoW is a totally differant genre to the likes of R2 due to the position of the camera? OPEN YOUR EYES MAN! IT'S NOT LIKE I'M PLAYING HUNCHBACK FOR F**K'S SAKE.

Jesus... some people...

No it does not. Games like Gears or GRAW are TPS. The Halos, R2, KZ2, CSS, HL, etc are first person shooters.

jfcundiff

What if I play GRAW in FPS mode (which I have done all the way through)., your suggesting by doing so it makes it a differant genre altogether??? It's the same game, viewed from a slightly differant angle isn't it?

Are you playing GRAW on PC or console?

I stopped caring about the point of the thread which was your argument that "PS owners have been deprived of decent FPS's".When did I say GeOW is a totally different genre from Resistance because of it's camera angle?Like many have said before me,TPS and FPS are sub-genres of the shooter genre. You can't mix and match games between sub-genres just because they contain elements of other sub-genres.That would be like me calling NFS a simulation racer because you can customize parts of the car.You want games in the TPS sub-genre that you can compare GeOW to?How about Dark Sector,Killswitch,Terminator 3 redemption,Army of Two,etc. Some people...Again!

[QUOTE="poptart"][QUOTE="Silent-Hal"] GeoW also isn't an FPS. Try again. campzor

You owned them.

last time i checked cod4 and waw were both released on ps3. we have every multiplat thats worth a damn and there is no exclusive FPS better than cod4. period. add resistance2 to the mix as an exclusive and i'm pretty sure ps3 owners are set. KZ2 looks great anyway, reguardless of what system its going to be on. its going to be a solid shooter so its time you children get of whatever high horse you think your on.

and by the way lems, yeah, halo was a fantastic game, probally my fav of all time, but 2 and 3 were poor by comparision. those two titles were trash compared to the first SP wise so don't make it seem like you have the market cornered on console FPSs please....
