Killzone 2 and Halo Reach graphics on 32' viewsonic LCD TV.

Does the quality of an LCD tv matters when it comes to a games graphics? I have a 32 inch 720p view sonic n3251w LCD TV which I bought almost 3 years ago and I am not sure if its just me or the tv but the graphics for halo reach and killzone 2 look like arse on it to me. I have a pretty decent computer so maybe Im spoiled by it. Is it that my graphical standards are at such a high level because of my gaming pc or does the TV actually suck that bad? Also if it is my tv please recommend me a good TV.

killzone 2 has some pretty spectacular vistas, multiplayer of course. there are times which I stare at aw at the skyboxes and the saturation of the colors. visari hammer especially.

won't say halo reach has terrible graphics, just fairly outdated and nothing spectacular.

It matters some.... i have a crappy HDTV I bought 4 years ago, but the games still look fine to me. But they look way better on my 40"HDTV i bought 2 years ago. Just dont game on a TN monitor they not exactly known for their picture quality.

Killzone 2 has quite a unique look to it, so you can't actually compare it to any PC games. In that sense, the game should still look good, even if you have been spoilt by a high end PC. So i'm guessing it's your TV. Perhaps go for a panasonic 50" plasma or a samsung LCD.

How close do you sit to the screen? Killzone 2 looks great on my 32" 720p Panasonic, but I sit pretty far away. Halo Reach is not a particularly good look game though, IMO.

It's the console.

Trust me. I have a high end PC, and I watch my friends play some console games, including Reach and I was laughing my @ss off. The aliasing, the textures, the blurry visuals thanks to low resolution stretch and pixel noise.

It's bad compared to a PC.

That being said, you kind of get used to it. I still had fun playing Halo with friends, but once I get home I kiss my PC because god, it's like being in the gaming dark ages.

I have a 46" Sammy LCD and KZ2 looks phenomenal. Of course, our definitions of phenomenal may not be the same, but I'd wager it's that TV of yours... which probably has horrible contrast ratios and such. Also, a good calibration does wonders for your picture regardless of your TV. Try Digital Video Essentials on Blu-Ray. It can be a little confusing using it at first, but you get the hang of it quickly. Night and day.

Well the screen can have some effect to your experience. Things like resolution,contrast, colour accuracy, deep blacks, refresh/motion,etc. Not sure how well that viewsonic would do those things... Defiantly below average.

You want a good TV, get a Panasonic plasma.

Bad LCD's can make anything look awful.

As I mentioned, coming froma high end PC, console graphics look like @ss to me too, but we don't know if that's the case for him, or if his TV settings are screwy.

TC, do you watch movies on that TV? how do they look?

Viewsonic makes good TVs. You might want to look for an LCD or LED monitor that excepts all the available HD resolutions (480p, 720p, and 1080p). I have my consoles hooked up to a 24' LCD PC/TV monitor that goes all the way up to 1080p and Killzone 2 looks absolutely amazing.

Also make sure your using HDMI cables and selecting Deep Color options.

Idk about TV's but viewsonic makes some good computer monitors

++ Halo Reach looks awesome, definitely one of the best lookers of 2010 imo. Even the multiplayer looks great and definitely a big step up from Halo 3.

Of course, it still doesn't match the likes of Crysis but still looks great.

I gamed on my 32inch 720p viewsonic with my pc for some time, mass effect 1 and 2 looked amazing on it, I really think it is the jump from pc to console, though graphics dont really matter too much for me, I play my ps3 more than anything else right now.

I didn't even know Viewsonic makes TV's

halo reach is actually a pretty good looking game, fairly detailed, its problem is its got fairly bad AF and the AA causes a horrible ghosting effect.

Killzone on the other hand actually looks really really good on smaller screens, but the detail isn't as consistent and they tried to use a blur effect and lots of post filters to cover it up, and alot of the detail is spent on the gun. it was really nice on my 19inch but when i moved up to a 32" it stopped looking as good.

Also if you'r comparing to PC's they are going to be fairly below what you experience on PC, dpending on what you play... like metro 2033

Hmmm... given Viewsonic's background in PC monitors, I wonder if your LCD is expecting 0-255 instead of 16-235? Assuming you're using HDMI, try using the RGB Full Range option on PS3. It'll clean up some of the washed-out look, which would really ruin Killzone 2. 360 has a similar setting, though I can't remember the exact name of it.

That said, expect improvement, not miracles. Consoles are gaming appliances - no sense in expecting them to keep up with the absolute latest in PC technology.
