In my opinion, in terms of HD console wars, Killzone 2 changes everything. Why?

1) The most important reason is that Killzone 2 has basically ended the debate about which console is the most powerful. For too long, Microsoft has hidden behind the perception that Xbox 360 is about equal to the PS3 in power. So before Killzone 2, despite MGS4, Uncharted, GT5p, etc., Xbox fans keep insisting that Xbox 360 is "about" equally powerful as the PS3. No more. He who still say this haven't played Killzone 2 or read Killzone 2's reviews or has their own fanboy spin.

2) Mainstream press has witnessed the power of the PS3 and writing about it. Even The New York times and USA Today are singing Killzone 2's praises.

New York Times: So I have to admit that whenever I play a shooter that is available only on a console, I've always felt like I'm compromising. Until now. I still wish there was a PC version, so I could use a mouse and keyboard (it'll never happen), but Killzone 2 is the first console shooter that does not seem to give up much in the design and production department to the best PC shooters. The game also includes an excellent online multiplayer component.

USA Today:Killzone 2 is the best looking game of its genre. Environments look enormous, and objects such as weapons boast very fine details. Players will witness winds furiously swirling in deserts and lightning booming with bright flashes.Enemy reactions are equally impressive. Helmets fly off enemies' heads after headshots, while Helghast soldiers scream and writhe in pain after suffering attacks by a flamethrower. The computer-controlled Helghast populating the single-player campaign are pretty clever as well.

3) With Killzone 2 leading the charge PSN is now the place for premium on-line entertainment. According to Gamepro, Xbox 360's best multiplayer game Halo 3 is no match for Killzond 2, judging by today's standards. It is fair to say that according to overall reviews, the most impressive graphics, sounds, multiplayer battle size, user-generated contents, etc. are now found on PSN.

4) All future Microsoft exclusives, including Halo: ODST, will be judged by the standards set by Killzone 2. Very, very tough. Good luck Microsoft.

Are you really gonna quote NY times and USA today? "Killzone 2 is the best looking game of its genre". from that comment alone i can tell they aren't to be trusted.

The PS3 is ahead of the 360 in terms of graphics prowess, unless MS can come up with something to rival Killzone 2.

Why would ODST be judged according to Killzone 2 standards? Was killzone 2 judged by Halo 3 or Crysis's standards? Obviously not.

Killzone 2 has ended no such debate. PS3 and 360 are equally as powerful, just because KZ2 is the current console graphics king, does not mean it will stay that way.

The New York Times and USA Today singing Killzone 2's praises? Good work on finding reputable GAMING journalistic pieces.

PSN and Xbox Live are about equal, there are tradeoffs to both, and whilst PSN is great, it isn't "the place for premium on-line entertainment", both are.

"It is fair to say that occording to overall reviews, the most impressive graphics, sounds, multiplayer battle size, user-generated contents, etc. are now found on PSN.", how does this even make sense? They are to do with games, not PSN.

Point 4 isn't even worth typing a response.

There are dozens and dozens of Gaming press extolling Killzone 2's graphics. In my opinion, the mainstream press is even more important in terms of creating mainstream perception of the consoles. That's why I use USA Today and NYT.

My thoughts exactly. Though KZ2 took console graphics up a notch, it doesn't really reinvent the wheel gameplay wise.

EDIT: On second thought, standards have more to do with quality than innovation.

Both are not gaming journalism, meaning what experience do they have with writing, let alone, knowing about such subjects? I could find a gaming blog with probably more gaming journalism reputation in SW.

Kz2 is just another overrated mainstream FPS.

Just like Halo and Crysis (not gameplay, but scores).

DarkGamer007
According to Gamespot's own reviews: No one could have suspected that the sequel to 2004's Killzone would be this good. Killzone 2 is a tremendous package, offering an exciting campaign and terrific competitive online play, neither of which create new paradigms for first-person shooters, but rather set new standards in subtle but significant ways. From groundbreaking visuals to well-crafted multiplayer maps, most of Killzone 2's individual elements stand out in a crowded genre, making its meager attempts at storytelling easy to ignore. PlayStation 3 owners looking for a shooter to keep them busy for the rest of 2009 and beyond need look no further: The fierce action will keep you glued to your television screen for some time to come. Other reviews, check metacritic.com , talk about animation, weapons realism, lighting, destructive environments that actually affect gameplay, transition between objectives in muliplayer games, wartime atmosphere, sense of satisfaction from making a kill, etc.

Half Life 2 plays well on consoles. Half Life 2 > All. Killzone 2 changes nothing. The only thing that could change anything is if a game comes along that is better than Half Life 2, and it's not going to happen any time soon. Mabye if they took all the episodes and made them one game though... that would be just about the only FPS that could surpass HL2. HL2 is God, KZ2 is blasphemy.

Not really. It's not even the highest rated exclusive shooter this gen. Good game? Yessir! But does it "change everything"? Nah, not achance. Crysis already did that.

How has KZ2 actually CHANGED the FPS genre (never mind everything). Yeah it's a super awesome game, but it adds nothing new, just a few variation here and there.

It does set standards in a lot of ways ..... hopefully this lights a fire under Insomniac and Bungie , and to a lesser extent - IW.

You give the game more credit than it's developers, it's just better graphics, kinda like how Gears of War used to be, then something new came out.

What has KZ2 done in terms of innovation? NOTHING. It's a COD clone with pretty graphics. And why are you selling the 360 short? Do you realize it took the PS3 2 years to get a decent game? What makes you think the 360 can't handle graphics like KZ2? The current trend of all multiplats being superior on the 360 suggests that the 360 could handle KZ2, and maybe a little better. As for Halo 3 being no match for KZ2, I want to see some numbers. Show me that KZ2 has more people playing online then Halo 3, when you'll have something. Until then, your credibility is nothing more than every other cow on here tying to convince themself that buying the PS3 was the right choice.

Yes, the guy was a biased idiot but he still raised some interesting points. Technically, the Unreal 3 engine IS more impressive. But, regardless, Crysis and Cryostasis are far beyond Killzone 2.

You negate his fanboy views by implanting your own in the argument. For many people the PS3 might have been the right choice. I'm not a cow, yet I find myself playing my PS3 more than 360. Sometimes it's just the way it goes.

Killzone 2 will never be able to run on the Xbox 360 for the same reason Gears Of War couldn't. It's not in the graphical needs of the game; it's in how much the engine is based on around a certain hardware set.

Are you kidding me? Where did you hear Killzone 2's community shrinking? Going by game scores and not take the age of games into consideration, then you should stick with the PS2, not Xbox 360. LIVE was better than PSN for 2005-2007. Not now. Not in 2009. How is LIVE a premium service when it doesn't allow you to play the games with the best graphics & sounds (Killzone 2, MGS4), the largest multiplayer battles (Resistance 2, Killzone2), the most creative user-generated contents (LittleBigPlanet), and the most relaxing, soothing game ever created (Flower), etc.? Please answer me.

One thing that Killzone 2 has definititely "changed", would be how well you are immersed in an actual war. The atmosphere, destructible environments and sheer amount of detail that is put in really adds to the war-like atmosphere. The COD series comes close, but in my opinion, Killzone 2 has perfected it.

You negate his fanboy views by implanting your own in the argument. For many people the PS3 might have been the right choice. I'm not a cow, yet I find myself playing my PS3 more than 360. Sometimes it's just the way it goes.

Could you point out any fanboy comments in my post?

[QUOTE="DarkGamer007"]

So what exactly are the standards that Killzone 2 set?

teemany

1) Half-Life 2 had great animation

2) Weapon realism has been done in Operation Flashpoint and Ghost Recon.

3) Killzone 2 uses fake lighting, and the lighting in Crysis is more impressive.

4) Again Crysis and Battlefield: Bad Company both have destruction that affect gameplay

5) Have to give you the transition between objectives in multiplayer, I really can't thing of any other game that does that.

6) Call of Duty 1-4, Gears of War 1-2, Halo, Crysis, Half-Life 1-2 all had excellent wartime atmosphere.

7) Call of Duty, Halo, Gears of War, Crysis, Battlefiled, Bioshock, Ghost Recon, Lost Planet, and just about EVERY shooter has had a sense of stisfaction from making a kill.

KZ2 raised the bar for FPS developers. Pretty excited to see the game that tops it. Although it will be awhile.

Most people [who actually know what they're talking about] maintain that the xbox360 and PS3 are about the same in terms of what they are technically capable of...

Stop dodging the question. Where are the 360 2009 games? Your attempt to dodge the question by undermining my comeback is quite laughable.
