In my opinion, in terms of HD console wars, Killzone 2 changes everything. Why?
1) The most important reason is that Killzone 2 has basically ended the debate about which console is the most powerful. For too long, Microsoft has hidden behind the perception that Xbox 360 is about equal to the PS3 in power. So before Killzone 2, despite MGS4, Uncharted, GT5p, etc., Xbox fans keep insisting that Xbox 360 is "about" equally powerful as the PS3. No more. He who still say this haven't played Killzone 2 or read Killzone 2's reviews or has their own fanboy spin.
2) Mainstream press has witnessed the power of the PS3 and writing about it. Even The New York times and USA Today are singing Killzone 2's praises.
New York Times: So I have to admit that whenever I play a shooter that is available only on a console, I've always felt like I'm compromising. Until now. I still wish there was a PC version, so I could use a mouse and keyboard (it'll never happen), but Killzone 2 is the first console shooter that does not seem to give up much in the design and production department to the best PC shooters. The game also includes an excellent online multiplayer component.
USA Today:Killzone 2 is the best looking game of its genre. Environments look enormous, and objects such as weapons boast very fine details. Players will witness winds furiously swirling in deserts and lightning booming with bright flashes.Enemy reactions are equally impressive. Helmets fly off enemies' heads after headshots, while Helghast soldiers scream and writhe in pain after suffering attacks by a flamethrower. The computer-controlled Helghast populating the single-player campaign are pretty clever as well.
3) With Killzone 2 leading the charge PSN is now the place for premium on-line entertainment. According to Gamepro, Xbox 360's best multiplayer game Halo 3 is no match for Killzond 2, judging by today's standards. It is fair to say that according to overall reviews, the most impressive graphics, sounds, multiplayer battle size, user-generated contents, etc. are now found on PSN.
4) All future Microsoft exclusives, including Halo: ODST, will be judged by the standards set by Killzone 2. Very, very tough. Good luck Microsoft.
