You might need to work on da mad mindreading skillz. For what its worth, I think Half-Life 2 is the finest shooter ever created.

i really dont think FPSs like HL2 and KZ2 should be compared though. HL2 is almost a FPA a being adventure. its more about the experience than the shooting a gun play, it may as well be a first person platformer adventure game with guns. because if we rate it as a FPS as in shooter it may be my favorite game but its fairly weak. its really on the best FPS experiences more than anything. im not great with words but i hope i conveyed my message.

KZ2 takes a different approach, its main focus is on the shooting in the game and things like AI. its more comparable to MW2 or halo.

Actually I thought Killzone 2 was quite ugly to look at. Both the single player and multiplayer got so boring I just stopped playing it. Terribly overhyped game.

how sad that it's come to this... an FPS with an actual decent story isn't considered a conventional FPS...

Not trolling btw, just saying that i wish FPS's had a decent and/or exciting story.

If the meat of a shooter is its guns, then Killzone 2's meat surpasses that of other shooters in 2009.Kevin-V
Agreed. KZ2 has the best gunplay of any shooter I've played.

People can have different opinions on the same thing. Crazy idea, I know, but totally true!

I found it brought some subtle things to the genre. A slower pace, a more heavy emphasis on cover, and some very sporadic firefights. All of which made it a bit more believeable. Otherwise it's really not that innovative. Just rather solid.

If the online wasn't dead then i wouldnt regret buying the game. Seriosuly, i tried playing last weekend and there was 1 full 32 game online! of course, it was full and i couldnt join so i ended up not even able to play a single worthwile game online. pathetic.

with that said, the campaign was extremely fun and the online is hit or miss. sometimes i love it othertimes i cant stand it

I honestly have a harder time playing shooter games of any kind, third or first person, that don't have a proper cover system.

Well that depends on whether you actually played it... did you?

Just because I didnt like it doesnt mean I havent played it. Why is this always people's first response.

Well coming from someone who hasn't played the dam game yet, you could at least have used a little more substance in your counter-argument towards Kevin's post. He made the trouble of writting a few well constructed paragraphs of why he found the game to be as good as he did; why not show the exact same energy/vigor when creating your own counter-argument instead of just posting something along the lines of "I think we must have been playing different games."?

Having different, albeit well constructed opinions on the game is anything but bad. Hell, while I'm far from being the biggest console shooter fan, I came out of reading Kevin's post with a very positive idea of the quality of the game. Don't know what to make of it yet, since I haven't always agreed with Kevin's positions on his reviews, but this is exactly why such a good counter-argument would be interesting in the first place, instead of just downright dismissing a well written post with a one-liner.

its not the fact that it has a good story. its just the gameplay. im a huge HL2 fan. i just think its in its own genre a subgenre of the FPS. but theres not enough games like it to define the genre.

Honestly I'm not even acknowledging it's existence tbh. It doesn't touch my interest whatsoever.

it is and i have played it (up to u to trust or not). it's all graphics, the game is a rather average fps. even cover system is nothing original like some fans claim, it's basically and automated 'leak and peak', available in various pc fps and even games like moh airborne.

Killzone 2 brings nothing new to the genre?

I've seen a lot of arguments for and against this game. In terms of against, the biggest one is:

"It brings nothing new to the genre, it's just pretty graphics."

Hmm, where to start?

The game looks good, and one could make the argument that there aren't any giant overhauls to the FPS genre here, there are some minor ones, but not necessarily anyting deemed "revolutionary," however, most the most part, Killzone 2 takes elements that work very well, even if we have already seen them before, and blends them into a very good game. One could say there isn't much 'new' here and I can see the reasoning, even though I'm a Killzone fan, I won't deny that there isn't anything so revolutionary it'll blow your mind, but what the game does have it makes for an all-around well-crafted and enjoyable shooter.

Also, yes, the graphics are, how to put it, gorgeous, in an apocalyptic dust storm kind of way, or just gorgeous in general. This isn't a bad thing, it's a good thing.

The game is fun, the weight of the character feels right, sure you can't jump seventeen feet in the air like Unreal Tournament will let you, but the physics are quite realistic and feel as though they haven't been "cartoonified" as minimally as possible.

My point is, although it might not bring and giant changes to the genre, ask oneself "Is it a good game, is it fun, is it beautiful to look at, do I like playing it?"

As far as the PS3 goes, for exculsive shooters this year, is it the best exclusive shooter on the PS3? Yes.

Is it the best shooter on the PS3 this year? One of them, there are a couple others to consider, but it could be.

Is it the best exclusive that's been on a Playstation system? Probably.

Is it the best shooter ever made? This is gray area and there are so many games to consider that the question can't be answered.

The point is, although it doesn't bring much new to the genre, it uses parts that have already been used before and blends them into a great and total package. THAT is why it is a good game.

It did a few things new. It just did them so horribly no one cares. KZ2 is a joke of a multiplayer FPS. Great single player though.

the multiplayer is the only thing worth a damn in the killzone 2 package tbh, single player was mediocore to average at best. MP was a good time though, definitely solid in most areas.
