I would like someone to explain to me how any FPS isnt "generic"
I swear, if I had a nickel for everytime this word is thrown around without any context to support it...
*sigh

Generic implies copying the forumula of other games without any feature or aspect that makes the game stand out above those it's emulating. For a more in depth definition, play the battlefield 3 campaign.
Then, as I already stated, pretty much every FPS from the past 10 years is generic
If you have minimal experience with the FPS genre then I could definitely see that.
There are many FPS games that aren't generic. It all comes down to their design.
Level design, gun design, enemy design, etc etc. It all can radically change how an FPS is played despite them all being first person with guns.

The only ones that are really "generic" would be all the clones of CoD.Â
You can't really consider games like Halo, TF2, STALKER, Killing Floor, Tribes, Planetside, Counter Strike, Hard Reset, Half Life, and Left 4 Dead as clones of other games, nor are there really any FPS games that mimic them either (mainly because CoD is the moneymaker).
