Are we seeing the limits of the PS4 already?
thats like a f--- u to Sony drones from Sony Corp loll you guys are advertising PS4 like idiots yet Sony cheap out and dumbs down the dedicated servers for a P2P like experience so cool
Its just a external ping. Real dedicated servers actually run the games client code, with the logic running on the server. This has the logic still running on a local users PS4, just routing all messages through a server.
EG. If the host leaves, there will still be migration. With real dedicated servers there is no host.
Am I missing something blatantly obvious?
What's not so dedicated about the dedicated servers?

Most stuff happens on the ps4, like bf3.
So?
What "stuff" would have been preferable to process on the servers?
This is the same setup used in previous KZ games right. You log in to Guerrilla's matchmaking/stats server. The game then hosts the game-play through one of the player's connections. ALL GAME-PLAY is handled by player connection. "Session Master Not Available" is basically telling you the person hosting the game dropped out and the game is attempting to make a new host connection. The player's connection then uploads the stats from the game to GG's stats server.

That'd be a case of not so dedicated.
Those quotes just did'nt explicitly say that.
Thats all that needs to be said. Dr3 could be 1080p 60fps if it wasn't for the 100's of zombies on screen at the same time, never mind a few explosions. While dedicated servers have some great advantages, nobody seems to want to talk about the worst thing about them.
Whenever Microsoft or some other gaming company decides that the server population and the popularity of the game is not meeting their expectations, they will pull the plug. Once that happens, you can forget about playing the game any more EVER...it is game over.
Servers get shut down. MS has done it, EA has done it, Ubi has done it. It happens, and usually to very bad reception.
This may become a major issue since it seems that MS is becoming increasing involved with games that have only an online component, or at least where the major focus is the multiplayer portion of the game.
I would love for the PS4 have to major dedicated server support. But this is the one thing that would worry me. Once that server is shut down, your game is gone.
Yes, of course dedicated server support is always going to be superior. But this is something to think about. You are paying for something that is not yours forever.

And still looks better than all xbone games, that is skills right there.
it is about time Ps4 drones start calling P2P based servers a great deal and cheap (for Sony Corp.) and the slowness/hostmigration adds to the action

which would mean the xbone is barely better than the 360I for one prefer a seamless continuous experience which keeps me engrossed. Theres nothing worse than being in an intense firefight lining up that perfect headshot and getting a host migration delay. If the technology is there Sony should be utitilising it to improve the experience
. I can honestly say the only poor experience I have had online with LIVE is whilst playing Fight Night it just didnt happen for me. PS3 gave me countless frustrating online experiences. Hence the reason I only have a handful of exclusive titles orientated around sigle player.
I wont be buying a PS4. They had ten years to create a competitive product, all we have is a graphics upgrade.

Dead Rising 3 has undergone work, its 1080p 30 FPS.
"If you saw it at Gamescom, we got a new drop from Microsoft literally that week, so you're seeing optimizations happening right now," Jones said. "We're in the midst of beta and final optimizations and polish absolutely, we've got the game frame-locked at 30."
Even when hordes of zombies grew massive, and the means of their disposal became flashier and gorier, the demo didn't experience the same framerate drops seen at Gamescom. What's more impressive is that the game's latest demo also showcased how co-op play would work in the series' next installment even with two players chewing through groups of zombies, the framerate stayed smooth.

So Peer to Peer is sudenly better then dedicated servers now and Cows will gladly pay for it
Also what's up with the Cow fixation of Ryse, it's the heifers nr. one talked about game while most Lemmings don't seem to be that interested in it .
The fixation with Ryse comes from the fact that the news of the game's progress is all over the place, which is never a good thing. MS and Crytek are NEVER on the same page when it comes to information about the game.So Peer to Peer is sudenly better then dedicated servers now and Cows will gladly pay for it

MS is paying a fortune to have this game made, yet they know very little about what is really going on behind the scene, with Crytek constantly having to repair MS's PR blunders.
But I have tried to warn my Cow friends, to no avail. I really think people are going to be surprised when the game comes out and is actually very fun and looks great. If the game does do well and scores highly, the ownage of the Cows will reach epic proportions, and rightly so. But of course it could also go the other way, and if it does....look out Lems.

I understand your concern but I think its far less likely to happen this gen. MS's server farm is extremely large this time around, its 300K servers where many are just for hosting dedicated servers. Its not like before where if a game wanted dedicated servers they basically had to rent them, and would therefore drop them if the game's popularity went down.
These Killzone servers sound like P2P. There is nothing dedicated about it. Stats and stuff are routinely stored server side, as long as one system is actually "hosting" the match, its not dedicated.

But why is it that mainly Cows talk about the game and in almost every topic ?
Their number two talked about game seems to be Forza 5 .
Could it be that it's because PS4 .........................................
has no games ?
Just to add a bit to this, the scalability that Microsoft has with it's cloud is the key to this. The data is there to support the game, and it sits there waiting. When there's a demand for it processing power is diverted to support the players. When the demand goes down, that power is used for other applications in the cloud that need it. This means there isn't a server just sitting there waiting for players that will get shutdown to be used for something else. Microsoft isn't the only company that does this by the way. The odd thing is that Sony isn't.
Ryse is an easy target. No other Xbone game has had so much contradicting news come out. Remember those .gifs of the guy with the rubber leg? It is stuff like that which gets remembered and beaten to the ground. We all know that is not going to make it into the game, but it makes things easy for those looking to prove a point. When it comes to Forza 5, well that should be obvious. It is a game that directly competes with not one, but 2 of Sony's games. Driveclub releases at the same time and Grand Turismo is Sony's premier racing title. It is obviously going to draw comparisons. Honestly, I am surprised that Forza is not enemy #1 to the Cows. It has taken everything good that GT did and pretty much done it better. That alone makes it a target for Cows, especially when news related to the game is less then perfect. This is something I'll wait & see how it turns out.
Sony has done dedicated servers before, so it's not a foreign concept to them.
I don't see them letting Microsoft pull too far ahead on this issue especially since PSN is going to be payed for.
There likely just crunching the numbers, and finding potential partners for a server roll out(likely playing Amazon & Google off each-other).
Luckily, servers can be fixed post launch if the dust has not settled before launch.
This is like the HDMI recorder issue I feel, where Sony just has not dotted all their i's & gauged public opinion before proceeding, & clarifying.

The odd thing is that Sony isn't. Futher to add, they are most likely goign to be using veritalization which means that a single server will not be dedicated to a single game. They can have VMs setup dedicated for games, that will float/migrate across the infrastructure when resources are constricted. Basically, with this, they will never need to shut down a games server since the physical hardware is never locked to a specific game. Please Log In to post.
