Hi all

My appologies if this is a repeat post or on the incorrect board but this seemed like the place to ask this question.

Basically I have been asked what I would like as a Christmas present and been told that Kinect is within a fair price range as my present which I would be grateful for. I am basically now stuck in choice between getting the Playstation Move controller package and a game or the Kinect pack.

I use my Xbox 360 a heck of a lot more for gaming at the moment but with Gran Turismo5 just around the corner I can see myself playing a bit more games wise on my PS3.

I am seeing issues with the Kinect being the lack of button/controler input but at the same time games like Dance Central look really cool and also is easily used in multiplayer due to the lack of controls. However Move has the buttons and has games like Heavy Rain already out as well as games like Killzone 3 in the future.

Man this is confusing so any input would be appriciated.

Again, my appologies if this is on the wrong board or not a topic that is allowed.

Thank you.

Look at the games that both controls currently support, and research the games that will come out for them. Then base your decision on which one you'd think has a better selection for you.

move is better because its hardcore plus it has buttons. having buttons for games makes the games better and more fun and doesnt make you look silly using your imaginations

If you want a devise that works with hardcore games instead of just with casual shovelware get Move although you'll find casual shovelware on both but at least Move has an alternative to it.

I'm not sure if Move can be defined as a "hardcore" peripheral or not, but the games that are, and will be compatible with it are def. 'core' games. Also, Move lends itself to supporting more complex experiences, having 1:1 motion and buttons. Precision and complexity are synonymous with 'core' gaming--'core' gaming having complex designs & mechanics, that is.

I say none so far as nothing has impressed me at all with the Move or Kinect. What Kinect has going for it is 80 million people have the Move already with the Wii.

No one can make the claim of it being hardcore or casual especially when it doesn't even have enough software to prove either or. It's best to just say it can be both just like every other controller. But it will be optional for the next Socom sooooo yeah that's probably as hardcore as it can get.

Of course I'm assuming. But I just believe that no developer will release a hardcore game on the Move (Or Kinetic) simply because it wouldn't sell.

I don't know what you consider hardcore but you can play games like Heavy Rain, MAG, Resident Evil 5 and Killzone 3 with Move.

Socom.....which is seriously about as hardcore you can get on consoles, no offense to anybody who loves other shooters on consoles. But we all know that's only because it's a Sony game is the reason why it's getting Move support.

What's your definition for "hardcore"? I've always assumed that 'core' was short for 'hardcore' :P. I think hard(core) means: complex, lasting experience. Opposite of casual: less complex experience; pick up and play.

That makes sense to me! Maybe to some people, 'hardcore' means: XTREME gaming, that's cool and mature! :P

Do you have a Wii, if so then you should know what to expect with the Move already, been there done that. Also will you play with these with your friends or family? If the answer is no, then it would be a better choice if you chose the Move, if the answer is yes you plan to play with family and friends, then the better choice would be the Kinect. Since it's going to be the holidays and all, I would choose the Kinect so you, your family and friends can all have fun together without buying any more controllers and navigations secondary controllers and all.

Yeah that's where the subjective line is drawn since hardcore doesn't have a universal definition.

For example, I'd consider those games "core".

I'd disagree, unless you mean "Move-only" games. Then again, maybe Sorcery? :? We'll have to wait and see.

Games that are compatible with Move like Heavy Rain, RE5: Gold Edition, LittleBigPlanet 2, Killzone 3, SOCOM 4, etc. are! I also read that GT5 is Move compatible . Not sure if that's true.

I have to agree with what DSP (yes, I regularly watch his videos and am not 12 years old) stated about them in his "Verdict" vid. In the long run, the kinect has a lot of potential whereas the Move doesn't seem to have long term worth, which makes sense. The kinect won't replace the controller, but it will add more to gameplay, like putting your hand forward or something to do something in game.

As of right now I think the Move has much more potential since it has been shown that it can be used on more types of games while Kinect has only been shown for casual party games.

we're having fun with The Fight over on the Gamespot forums....

here is video of me in the sparring section....its fun once you learn how to play, and its only $40...and has online, with spectator mode where you can bet on fights.....and custom soundtrack to have your own music to pump you up before and during a fight.....60fps, 1:1 fighting, and if you have a 3DTv, 3D mode.

also a good workout and its able to calculate how how many calories you have burned.

yeah yea..I'm sure I'll get replies with the "OMG FAIL IGN 3.0..Gamespot 5.0" or what ever.....but you should take it from the gamers who are actually playing the game...try it out, rent it.

I dont understand how you can even make a statement like that... wow. Anyway, out of the gate after playing both id say the kinect has the bigger wow factor and is more impressive as to its future potential but it really will all come down to smart devs INTEGRATING motion controls rather than just letting them dominate.

It's foolish to get either one right away, unless you want something to play with during parties, but even then I would rather wait until they get more good games.

I think it being "foolish" is subjective!

I want to get Move to play some of the party/casual games, along with games like RE5 (haven't played that yet!), Socom 4, Killzone 3, etc. That styIe of play won't appeal to everyone, but I def. dig it :D. As for Kinect, I've already said my piece on that...Don't feel like reiterating. I'll just say: not interested.

i f you got a wii , im pretty much sure its gonna be hard for you to make a decision based on current titles, id wait and see,

move is just 10 dollars more , then a wii mote so if you got a cam and ps3 already sure go for it,

but if you have neither of them , its 400 dollars total ,

if you dont got the cam its 99 unless you buy a used cam not bundled with move controller,

kenict is easily the most expensive of the 3

so right now with these casual friendly titles id advise you again wait,

unless you see a game you actually see a game for one of the 2 you really must have then your choice is shrunkin down to how much money your willing to spend

if that game is on move or kenict and you still dont think ones enough then wait , , i rushed and now im having mixed reactions i have 2 games that support move so far ,

ill wait for kz3 and other titles like socom 4 , -even though i didnt get into socom i bought 3 games in the series 1 on psp 2 on ps2

so ya id wait till some killer titles because based on reviews so far , nor kenict or move have any advantage other then tech over the wii

honestly as a owner of 20 plus gaming units including the current running 5

i must say wiether or not people agree with me i had more enjoyment with wiimote ,over sixaxis , thats manily because of the games

selection i also have a considerable amount of 360 games so i must say if your just talkin gaming nintendo , and to an extent xbox360 has the line up but sony has been getting some sort of spark lately , so i cant count them out but as for motion nintendo started the gen with it , and

like usual when you start first , the followers usually dont do as good,

for instance bluray vs hddvd,

ps3 started with that format ms wanted to join by making its own and clearly bluray was the choosen one in this case its motion gaming we are talkin about ,

and nintendo has done nothing but good with it, it gives you confort to know you can still sit down and play the wii vs kenict where you have to stand up in front of it and have a big space ,-that alone is a draw back for me because i can hardly stand i get tired after so long ,

ps move is same problem so if you can over come this problem you will be fine , for me move and wii are the top choices,

kenict is just so laggy it is known it has more problems then wii or ps3 move at recognizing the motions being done

It's foolish to get either one right away, unless you want something to play with during parties, but even then I would rather wait until they get more good games. SilverChimera
wait are you saying im foolish because i bought a wii at launch ,, (for the record im no casual gamer for those who like to call wii owners casual) i also got move at launch ,, and as said in my post , well you can read any way ,i dont think its foolish to try somthing new, but i will say its risky , you risk not having anything to play on it , and money aside , developer have to support these thing to take off and i dont mean make wii makes, /remakes of wii games or porting wii titles over , i mean original games and so far move and kenict dont look to be doing much of that

Since you're getting it as a gift, get the more expensive one, the Kinect. Win win situation, you didn't spend money on it and you, your family and friends will have more fun with it over the holidays.
