Kinect Overtakes Move in Motion Controller Sales, Says Pachter

Add the motion controller race to the picture, and things look rather good for both Sony and Microsoft. Still though, analyst Michael Patcher now says that Microsoft might be a bit happier, as the Kinect appears to have gained the lead in sales.With the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Assassin?s Creed: Brotherhood, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuitand other titles, the industry is showing signs of growth as core and casual gamers embrace another holiday season filled with several great games. What adds to this experience is the accessories race between the Move and the Kinect, and though Sony had a six-week lead over the Kinect, sales indicate that Kinect is already on top of its rival.Pachter cites consumer hesitation in the purchase of bundles that include the Move, saying that the $299 price point needs to be dropped in order to ?accomplish its goals of profitability, solid console sales and Move penetration.?Though we?ve confirmed the Move has sold 4.1 million units, there is strong evidence that the Kinect is looking to have ?an installed base of 8 million by year-end,? says Pachter. ?Depending on pricing, we could see an installed base that approaches 20-25 million by year-end 2011.?Still though, ?the two devices will be around $500-800 million in 2011, or around 2.5-4$ of industry sales next year.

Well heck VGcharts says the same thing that Patcher says and that is Kinect has more unique customers then what Move has.

What official report? If you are talking about the 4.1 million even Sony has now admitted that it is only sold to stores.

This is hilarious how this story is being spun. Why does everyone say he is saying that Kinect has outsold/overtook Move? For crying out loud he admits that that the 4.1 million number of Move being sold is legit as well as the 2.5 million Kinect being legit. So to everyone that means 2.5 > 4.1..............call me confused.

lol if hes talking about xbox and kinect bundle then

the kinnect xbox bundle sold a lot because people got RROD which made them buy another xbox .:o

remeber an xbox get RROD every 10 seconds

I'll buy a Move, but only when Killzone 3 comes out.

For now, I'll continue to use my wonderful Kinect to do naughty gestures when playing against 12 year old girls on xbox Live, Kinect table tennis.

TC it's 4.5 million Move's have sold and 3 million Kinects. With The Move people buy multiple for their home and with Kinect it's one for each home. It's going to be very difficult for Kinect to outsell The Move because of this fact.
