http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au3UJHItYgc Doesnt look that far ahead on my screen... And then theres this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWbLOFGSEDo&feature=player_embedded That just shows how much the Kinect does alone, you move a little and the thing gets your general position while making the thing work "automatically" on games. Anything else is just acting on MS press conferences like the star wars guy and the little family where the dude looks 30 and has a 14yo daughter, stuff like that.Obviously two "camera" peripherals for a console are going to have some similarities but Kinect is so farahead of the Eyetoy its laughable.
Plus that article is old.

laughable? I doubt it they both are very similar although I feel that MS made a greater push for marketing and media support. The only thing laughable is that people are so unaware of the similarity in spec, and that is is the same concept!Obviously two "camera" peripherals for a console are going to have some similarities but Kinect is so farahead of the Eyetoy its laughable.

[QUOTE="gamer-adam1"]Elaborate! what can't it do? Pretty much just tells how far away you are from the camera and thats it. The thing "guesses" and "assumes" a lot, if a person look at someone playing Kinect on one side, and someone else playing Kinectic on the other (a PS2/eyetoy game) and you have to guess which one is playing what, how easy would it be? Not too easy i'm guessing. You do exactly the same, stretch, jump, duck and thats pretty much it. The only thing kinect can do different (and not that good) is track your movements via software to "know" where they are while the eyetoy just registers the difference in the captured video to tell what moved and react to that. Some eyetoy games even did this tracking via software too so again, what kinect does is not that impressive, specially if you consider the motion dept camera works at 24 fps (if i'm not mistaken) which makes pretty impossible to track fast movements.Eyetoy cant do what Kinect does, Sony themselves said it when they released Singstar Dance

Why not? It mixes up the experience definitely. A game like Heavy Rain didn't have the greatest replay value just because of why it was good. oh please, all it takes is sony to show off move on Secret Story (which they do... over and over again) to get people to buy it don't try to pass the European consumer off as more inteligent
and all it took were some terrible Wii commercials for Sony's dominance in Portugal to go from 80% to 50% market share between 2008 and 2010
so please explain to me how the European consumer is a smarter consumer?

Things the kinect can do the playstation eye cant do:
Mapping movements to an in game character.
Recognizing multiple players.
Skeletal mapping.
Collect depth information (bowling game is impossible on playstation eye)
Limitations the playstation eye has the kinect doesnt:
Cant have movement in the background.
Cannot play in low light conditions.
Have to wear clothing that doesnt clash with the background.
Requires heavy calibration.
.... and after all that, its still far less accurate.

So? it is still a 8.5 game that can be played with Move. And, again, the only Kinect-only game above a Move or Eyetoy-only game is Dance Central which is ridiculous to use it to cry Kinect as the much superior device much more when it also has the lowest scoring game of both motion devices: Fighters Uncaged. So? it is still a 8.5 game that can be played with Move. kuraimenand again, why would I want to play it with move when I got a perfectly good controller that works and came free with my console?
Better yet why would I want to play with move at all? it might work on the awkward animations heavy Rain had. but on a shooter? hell no, have you tried playing an FPS with a Wiimote or Wiimote plus?

Too bad Heavy Rain and RE5 play much better on a controller. Its just a gimmick. If anyone is given the option to use Move or a controller for those games, im betting that 99% will chose the controller.
Also on topic. the dance central/sing star comparison should have ended any debate that Eye Toy can compete with KInect. They both are cameras and thats where the similarities end.

They are limitation i gave based on me actually understanding the underlying technology behind the devices.
Antigrav is not mapping movements to an in game character.... clap your hands and see if your character does it. It looks for pixel changes and controls the character similar to a dpad based on those pixel changes.
And yes there is a bowling game for the move... because the playstation eye needs the move in order to process depth information. Sony didnt release the move for fun... they released the move because the PSeye had massive limitations like the inability to process depth information. If the Eye could do everything kinect can do... there would be no move.
And recognizing people is different than tracking different people. Its capable of facial recognition... but its not capable of telling your leg apart from your buddy's arm. In fact it cant even tell your own leg apart from your own arm.

Yes that's why I say in my first post that the only thing Kinect has over the Eyetoy is a better depth perception with Move a better depth perception is possible.
