Alot of people slam Kinect because it has several weaknesses (just like all other control methods, mind you). One of the most common complaints is that it is very poor for FPS games like Halo and Call of Duty. Wait a second... doesn't the Xbox 360 already have a library of shooting games? Does the Kinect even NEED to be FPS-focused when the Xbox 360 itself has too many shooters? I don't think so. I love shooting games, but I have absolutely no problems with Kinect being poor for shooters because I already have a keyboard/mouse, gamepad, and PS Move for shooting games. Another shooting-based peripheral is the last thing I need at the moment.

Kinect reminds me of the PSP - since the PSP has only one analog stick, most developers never bothered making shooting games for it. Instead, they made other types of games for the device. Not saying that lacking two analog sticks is bad at all, just saying that sometimes there is some goodness to come from a device that doesn't support shooters. If the PSP2 has a second analog stick, then prepare for a loooong list of FPS games for it including Modern Warfare 3. At least the Kinect will have a limited number of shooting-based games :P

Your thoughts? :)

Its also not good for most other games such as RPGs, realistic racers, strategy, and basically anything that needs precision or isn't on rails.

Kinect will improve exponentially over the next few years and me thinks Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor will be a great test to that theory - Can't hardly wait.

Fair enough. But its extremely good for sports games, fitness, dancing, casual gaming, party games, and so forth. Oh, and on-rails games are cool. I dont know why people criticise them so much. Time Crisis is really fun.

The Kinect is not good for FPS because of its severe latency which also makes it bad for other genres like racing games. Therefore its intended for only casual gamers.

You really think that a certain genre will make a player casual or not?

We're not going to count Littlebigplanet. So that makes like maybe 10 games?

Um, make it like 40+, since theres loads of great PSP game I never had a chance to play. Not bad for a non-Nintendo handheld, right? :)

40+? Anyone got that spreadsheet?

EDIT: Nvm, PSP isn't on there. I'll just look manually.

2 EDIT: It's had 9 AAA's since it's release on Gamespot, and a few of them are multiplats. Now I'm not saying that AA's and A's are bad, but that's pretty lacking.

You obviously never had much experience with the PSP if you find it hard to believe that there are 40+ great games on it. The only that can persuade you is a spreadsheet?

Meh, compared to the DS, it's pretty far behind.

The Kinect's biggest weakness is its lack of something Kevin Butler calls 'buttons'....

True, I'll agree with you on that one. But still, the PSP was great in its own right, I just hope the PSP2 has trophy support :)

I think the argument you hear is that the control method is very poor for all kinds of games, not just FPS games.

people have the wildest imagination. i remember when lems were saying, "oh..oh...oh...i could use Natal as a controller for Halo or Gears. or...or...i could just say 'Fire!' and my FPS game will fire automatically!"

when all else fails, people always have delusions.

It's biggest strength for me is the fact that it can be used in tandem with an actual physical controller.

Why has everyone forgotten this? It's already been confirmed that games that use both the controller and Kinect elements are on the way so, that leaves the door open for core games that utilize motion controls in a way that simply adds to the experience such as headtracking in a shooter or racing game.

I fail to see how the Kinect failing to recognize dark-skinned people is a strength.

Well, the PSP did have some shooters (like Siphon Filter and Resistance) that used the face buttons as if you were using it as a second analog. I thought that was a pretty brilliant idea for a system that didn't have a second analog (not as smooth as a joystick, but it wasn't horrible either). Kinect, from what I hear, can become near-perfect and fix all the things people have complaints about with a few tweaks via online updates as time goes by (I have no idea how "bad" it is...never tried it out, so it's just a wild guess. :P Hey, if games can get patched up online, I don't see how a console/peripheral can't either :D).

the Kinect being bad for shooters is the most insignificant weakness. Infact I would categorize that weakness under its bigger weakness = its a broken piece of obsolete hardware that is overpriced, overrated and basically just sucks altogether.
