King of Fighters XII - 1.5/5 at Gamespy and C at 1up

I'm so disappointed with this, KOFXII was one of my most anticipated games this year, BlazBlue looks better, even with less characters, how could this go so wrong, where SNK lost the road, i know that reviews don't matter that much, but BlazBlue and SFIV has gained so much praise and now KOFXII seems inferior, even with those E3 Figthing Award, i honestly don't know what to expect, i'm so disappointed, KOF is my favorite figthing franchise and KOF 96 is one of my all time favorite games, then again, the lack of a lot, a lot of classic characters like K', Mai or Mary is unforgettable, shame on you SNK.

in b4 the KoF cult following tells us the game is better than every other fighter out there.

Theres no real meat to the game itself. I mean hell they even got rid of the story bits and just put time trail and online. What were they thinking.

Ive heard very dissapointing things from an american friend of mine, I will have to wait till the 28th of august for the european release to make my own judgement, but tbh I wish I could have blazblue instead but nope, thanks to no one picking it up for a european release and microsoft not allowing a region free disc, I cant :(

I despise anime with a passion. With that said, Blazblue is easily the best fighter this gen (imo) and has the best netcode and online options.

It's probably just old school in every sense of the phrase, meaning it's a faithful recreation of the KOF series with HD.

All I can say is ouch! Had high hopes for it too :(, oh well I'll still give it a try though.

You mean SBO qualifiers. I don't think you can actually infer too much from qualifiers because we don't know how many entries there were for each character at every qualifier. v13, Arakune, and Rachel could be less, or potentially more broken than those numbers indicate. I can maybe concede that BB is balanced at lower levels, but the idea that BB is balanced at high levels is pretty funny. V-13's matchups range from neutral (nu vs jin) to LOL (nu vs tager). I feel it's worth mentioning that SF4 balance is overrated as there are a number of 7-3s, but is still better balanced than BB.

As far as KOFXII goes, it sounds like it got kicked out the door kind of barebones compared to BB and SFIV. This isn't going to matter to FG fans but certainly won't win over reviewers.

Seriously though, after warming up to VF5 and DOA my God does Tekken feel so bland. I mean, it wins points for having Kazuya Mishima, but I have to agree with Itagaki: Tekken sucks.

And that 40+ character list is insane. I'm sure the developers said they were suppose to all be unique but after playing it at the arcades aw hell no. It's like Tekken Tag all over again.

also DOA gets too much flak for boob physics....wtf The game is accessable, and his its own fighting engine that works very well. Its balanced for the most part and the defense system is pretty good. The online coding for that game was probably some of the best as far as all fighters this gen. DOA 4 was a damn good fighter, not top tier...but definantly a good fighter...jg4xchamp

I think the only reason it's not top tier is because it's not input heavy. VF5, Third Strike, and SFIV (maybe Alphas too?) require hardcore inputs. Itagaki made DOA4 like Ninja Gaiden: not relatively complex, but incredibly refined and damn respectable for it. Like try and button mash your way through the story mode of DOA 4: You'll have just as much success as you do playing VF5. If you don't know how to time, combo, or counter, you'll be punished like no tomorrow.
