Klobrille suggests Xbox Live Gold (and the MP paywall) may be going away entirely. Replaced by GamePass.

@StrongDeadlift: I wouldn't be surprised if they melded it into one thing moving forward. Having six different tiers of subscriptions is information overload for something as simple as a subscription package.

What they should do is get rid of the standard Gold subscription, and then lower the price of Game Pass Ultimate a bit. The revenue they'll bring in by all of the people paying a slightly lower price for Ultimate will counteract what they would lose from the price drop.

I'm all for the simplification of it. Right now, there's simply too many options. There's Game Pass, Game Pass for PC, Game Pass Ultimate. Just make it one thing. Everybody pays this price and everybody gets all of the things the subscription offers.

Does make sense since they removed the 12 month option for gold. All you can buy now is the one month and the three months and that will only last up to the selling of the new Xbox. MS obviously knows some people would be upset if they bought 12 months gold and was not needed to play online when the new console out.

MS likely going to bundle online multiplayer with Gamepass. It still a subscription you have to pay every month. It would be a megaton announcement if MS just dropped the online subscription and kept game pass as its only unique subscription service.

If Microsoft makes playing online free, it's really just the reversal of 360 vs PS3. Ps3 online was free.

It all comes down to games, guys. I payed for XBL because I loved the experience and the games on xbox. I chose to pay rather than get a playstation and play for free. Even if PS5 online costs money, if the games are awesome, Id still pay it.

Isn't the PlayStation brand more focused on single player experiences?

If you pay for PS Now you already can play online without the need of PSN+ once again MS is a day late and a dollar short,that has been the story for years now,when it comes to online while sony was slam as been behind,they already had policies that either MS adopted or plan to still.

Im perplexed about what you're complaining about in this thread. What part of the information provided exactly do you taking issue with? Is it the fact that a verified insider, and the most reliable Xbox leaker on ResetEra with a bulletproof track record just floated (and doubled down) on the notion that Xbox Live may be going free soon, and that sentiment is now being independently validated by senior editors at the largest industry press outlets, who by the way, have all already SEEN Microsoft's show?
