If you've been wondering why Hideo Kojima has been spending nearly all his interview time as of late talking up Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and not the console-bound Metal Gear Solid Raiden Rising, it's probably because the latter's presently a bit of an experiment-in-progress. "We're at an experiment level right now. We're doing a lot of experiments for Rising," Kojima told GamePro during GamesCom. It is, after all, promised to deliver a "different kind of action" for the series.

From the sound of his subsequent statements, the experimentation goes beyond the
all-new graphics engine planned for the title and into the realm of overall development philosophy for the legend's studio. "Even the management and team formations that we have at Kojima Productions, we are changing this around," he said, adding, "The core of it is, of course, the Rising team. They're doing a lot of high-level stuff with great staffs."

And no, that last line isn't Kojima's way of saying
the game's "young" team is actually spending all its time playing World of Warcraft. (We hope.)

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/03/kojima-metal-gear-solid-rising-at-an-experimental-stage/

It'll be interesting to see what they do with it.

I'm curious to see if MGS R can be on par with MGS 4 on terms of graphics or better as promised.

This is doubtful given the current hardware limitations of the 360, but we'll have to see.

I think this quote is key: "different kind of action" for the series

I've got no idea what they mean by this except maybe that it won't play like a normal MGS, although they did try sword wielding Raiden in MGS2 and it only really worked at the final boss.

If it does indeed end up looking better, then Lemmings will probably have enough fuel to last a few years

You had to do it didn't you. Anyway, I think it might surpass MGS4 in terms of graphics as they should have a better understanding of the hardware.

not really, cows could always use the "they made a new engine cause the 360 couldnt handle the MGS4 engine" but it'll probably look better cause if there doing a new engine, they'll revise a bunch of things.

It's only about Raiden and how he ended up looking the way he does, and in the time line It's between MGS2 and MGS4 (not MGS3).

i dont think so. You play as Raiden. imo MGS:Rising is getting the Metal Gear Snakes Revenge treatment, totally different Metal Gear game thats not being produced by Kojima.

"different kind of action" for the series.:?

okay let me get this straight no kojima, no MGS4 team, no snake, and now no stealth action gameplay? so what exactly should we be looking forward to? when MS first announced MGSR coming to 360 people that it was a big deal and people saying "sony lost another one/MS got anotherone" but with each passing month it seems there are fewer reason to think MGSR will be good considering the only thing it shares from the real MGS's is one character and the name

They could just compress audio and the game in general, instead of texture resolutions(some of which were bad in MGS4).

lol, probably. My friend (Metal Gear Fanatic and Ginormous PS3 Fanboy ) went crazy when MGS:R was announced for the 360. He was swearing at everything for like 2 days straight .... I couldnt even say the words Kojima or 360 or MS or Sony or Games for a week with a huge paragraph filled with swears and complaints. I had to calm him down by saying ..... "Kojima isnt going to work on it so the 360 can have some of that half baked game" .... I also said that to my 360 fanboy friend. Its like SW in the real world, w/o the statistics.

trust me you dont have to tell me, I already know. There are always ways around it. imo, anything thats done on the PS3 can be done on the 360 and vise versa, the only problem is that Sony has a first party large enough to push the system more than any other 3rd party dev, MS doesnt.

I think the PS3 could get ray-tracing done faster than X360, but neither can do it real time so it doesn't matter.

I read somewhere that KZ2 does it for every bullet hole, but thats just a very small aspect of the game so it might be true.

Are you serious? GEOW 2 is right behind KZ2/U2 and AC2 looks really good as well, I do not see it, also the X360 almost always outperforms PS3 multiplats, MGS4 is also not (ANYWHERE CLOSE) to the best looking game imo. Also Sony first party>>>>>>>MS first party..nuff said(In the last statement.)

Heard that too, but it doesn't make an overall big impact, I also have aproblem believing that due to no PC games using any kind of ray-tracing, period.

It's funny... I usually agree with most of your posts when I'm just reading threads but I have to disagree with Gears 2 being dissapointing. Sure it was a bit more casualized than the first but in all honesty I still thought it was a great game. I guess that's your opinion though :(

To get back on topic, I really want Metal Gear: Rising to be good. Since the moment I finished MGS4, I knew for a fact that there would be a Raiden based game telling the events of MGS2-MGS4 but I thought Kojima would be head of the development. I guess I can't really complain since he is working on MGSPW (Big Boss's storyline was always my favorite in the MGS series) and the new Castlevania. I just hope they don't make MGR some horrible spin-off like the Metal Gear AC!D games:cry:.

i love the concept and mechanics of gears of war 2 man, I also enjoy how teamwork heavy it is, however, My dissapointment comes soley based on the multiplayer issues. there are days when I can't even get INTO a match after waiting more than 10 minutes, and when finally we get into a match, the lag is abundant to the point of unplayability. So here's hoping for a better optimisation for Geow 3, possibly a beta this time around.

Well as big of a fan of Gears 2 as I am, I can't pretend like lag isn't a huge problem. Either way, I have been able to enjoy the game's multiplayer because the times when I get a good connection or a host that doesn't lag-switch, the multiplayer is simply amazing... especially the teamwork in modes like Guardian and Annex. However, I guess it is understandable that someone could be put off by the lag and long times it takes to find matches. I also hope Gears 3 fixes the lag.

Space has nothing to do with graphics, unless they are pre-rendered (i.e. fake) graphics. A level will not take up 5 GB. Any game over 10 MB is using it for extra reasons such as music, and movies, and tons and tons and tons and tons and tons of extra textures.

Lossless 7.1 uncompressed audio.,, and a few 1080P cut-scenes.

After the way Kojima dissed the 360 crowd he would be lucky to sell any copies of this new game unless it scores around 9.5-10. He bet it all on the PS3 and now that the tables have turned a bit he comes running to multiplat development. Much like Crytek the same old tricks aren't going to work this time so they better come up with the goods.

No need to be just yet, hardly any info is out. I'm a huge Halo fan, and I really wasn't hyped by the first Halo 3: ODST trailer.

"Like a case of bad allergies, Metal Gear Solid 4's graphics left us rubbing our eyes"

"Let's just hope our meager eyes can take it."

The game did some good cutscenes; but I honestly don't know why this game got praised for its graphics. Cutscenes can achieve higher graphics because they are 100% under the developers control, but I recall not being impressed by the game play graphics in MGS4.

Either way it will be interesting to see what they do with Rising, no info to acquire my interest yet.

I'm curious to see if MGS R can be on par with MGS 4 on terms of graphics or better as promised.

This is doubtful given the current hardware limitations of the 360, but we'll have to see.

Dead-Memories

Are you kidding? The 360 has produced tons of better looking games than MGS4

I think this game is going to flop (at least for me) I was very disappointed by MGS4's presentation and story. I think Kojima has gone too casual and lost that thing about himself that he added to games that made them special.

True, there is nothing special about MGS4's graphics (save the spoiler) other than the people squied vision who hold the game dear to their hearts simular to Halo3 fans who somehow think it's graphics are somehow comparitable to the best of the generation. If it's one thing PS3 fans shouldn't brag about, it's the graphic quality of what is found in MGS4.

Except the one cut-seen at the end with Raiden and his new family...that was astounding.

This game is going to be like Dig Dug, hence the name 'rising'.
