Kojima Planning Something Big for Metal Gear's 25-Year Anniversary

2012 will mark 25 years since the first Metal Gear was released.

Hideo Kojima was recently upset over something, causing speculation that one of his games may have beencanceled. We still don't know what he was referring to when he said, "What I prepared minutely spending a year became meaningless," but he did clear up some other matters up on a new Kojima Productions podcast (mp3).

As translated byAndriasang, Kojima simply responded yes or no to a number of questions. He said he will not be at Microsoft'sE3press conference, nor will he be announcing Metal Gear Solid 5 or showing a multiplayer mode forMetal Gear Solid: Rising(which will not star Gray Fox or be out on November 1, 2011). He added that the 3DS will getMetal Gear Solid 3before the end of the year in Japan butMetal Gear Solid 4(pictured above) is not in the works for NGP.

Next year marks the 25-year anniversary of the originalMetal Gear's release on the MSX2 and NES in 1987. Asked if there are plans for something big to celebrate, Kojima said yes, but there were no further details provided on what that might entail.

Super Mario Bros. celebrated that same anniversary last year with the release ofSuper Mario All-Starson Wii. Nintendopromisedsomething "different" but "just as special" to celebrate Zelda's 25th anniversary, which took place this year.

throw MGS2 and 3 on live and psn and it would be golden for me tbh.2 wouldnt be too hard considering an xbox port already exists just needs a bit better optimization :p

That was the rumour floating around yesterday. It wouldn't be too surprising - the only one they'd really have to go out of the way to work on would be MGS4, and even that shouldn't be too difficult to port over.

1 and 2 are already here but those ports sucked big time. 3 was never delivered but they're remaking it for 3DS. I'd be happy with a port for that actually as long as it had MP. MGS4 is the obvious one that'd be the least difficult. I'd be fine with a standard console port and multiplayer. What would be really jaw-dropping would be mod support :shock: And Peace Walker. I'd take Peace Walker on PC over any of them.

Yesterday = RUMORS GALORE! And they're totally out there!

Today = 25th anniversary of MGS announcement. Sounds a little fishy here. Methinks someone needs to protect their E3 data better.

My guess is Metal Gear Solid 1-3 collection for ps3, but more than an HD remake. The original MGS hasn't aged as well, so I would assume some changes would be made.

I'd like a collection box with every MGS game released on PC, 360 & PS3.

Especially PC. :)

Miyamoto is working on the Zelda 25th Anniversary he said it will be different then the Mario 25th Anniversary.

They even have the logo that will be on the packaging.

It looks nice but this logo has jpeg artifacts in it.

Metal Gear Solid HD collection on PS3, including Twin Snakes, MGS2, and MGS3 all with updated camera controls, with the original MSX Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 as on-disc bonuses (like they were for MGS3 Subsistence). Also, maybe they could toss Metal Gear Online 2.0 (MGS4's multiplayer) onto the disc for good measure.

MGS5 should be a full-on remake of Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2, with MGS4 style graphics, gameplay, and cinematics.

Disagree. Because they changed the control scheme of the game, the game didn't technically work as well. Certain areas became incredibly easy. More changes had to be made to the structure of the game in order to accomadate the new control scheme. The game felt broken, imo.
