Koreans are still not competent at making games.

When will the Koreans (no racial or national prejudice intended) make great games that have consistently good and varied art assets, along with great CGI trailers?

When will the Koreans produce more games in genres other than MMO?

When will the Koreans write interesting lore for their games?

NCsoft should not be credited for any critical success of Guild Wars 2. ArenaNet should be and ArenaNet are Americans.

They are good at playing games, yes, but making games is a different, well, game.

They have a different culture and economy. Koreans don't really buy video games. They play them in cyber cafes instead.

Koreans are still comfortable playing their duty as gamers.... not developers. they will eat. sleep, forget their youngs, or even die of game fatigue for the sake of playing games

Korean govt is currently cracking down on gaming industry (apparently it instigates school violence) while the industry is so different and in a way corrupted to the point that all the skilled employees in the sector migrate to US or Canada. And the industry has a strict divide between management and developing teams and management guys control all the money that only games that copy other successful gmaes are made. This is due to cultural standards as well as the market's nature as MMO focused market If you want to talk about other country, i suggest you make sure wtf you are talking about

The single player games they make are probably only for niche local market. Had received a copy of Korean single player historical rts from my brother when I left Taiwan to Canada (during the 90s) but never enjoyed the game so I threw it away. There are plenty of Korean single player games I assume, just not ported to anywhere else like Taiwanese / Hong Kongnese single player games.

I am from Seoul(completely americanized since age 6) and last I visited was when I was 17. At 17 I was partying, chasing tail, and neglecting my school work. My counter part korean cousin of the same age woke up at 7:00am, and returned home at 7:00pm to proceed towards his studies until 10:00pm in korea when I visited.

He didn't even know the name on his shirt was a band(black sabbath). He was like a drone, had no personality, and only spoke when spoken too.

But man did he **** love video games like I did. He was insane at starcraft(Its televised on 2 channels 24/7).

Sometimes it's okay for people to choose another life full of excitement and fun in the virtual world. It's just that when real life sucks that hard it can lead to some terrible consequences when your computer hub is the only saving grace for your crappy day. RIP those korean gamers and good health to the ones they left behind...

Oh yes we need to stay on topic.. um koreans are busy as **** and korean jesus doesn't have time to help them make video games they have to do korean ****

Korea has great talents, but many of its talented artists and programmers migrated to America to develop games in companies like Blizzard.

The Koreans working at Blizzard are absolutely talented. If not, Blizzard wouldn't have put them in its top-tier internal CG department.

And there are more who work at other game companies in North America.

One exception does not make the rule. He said they're clamping down on it more so now, before it wasn't such an issue as these days.

Actually, not anymore. GSL is on Gom TV only, and SC1 leagues are pretty much gone now. LoL is the biggest game in Korea right now while D3 and SC2 aren't anywhere near their predecessor were. B&S was just released a month ago, and we will have to see if it stays on top, but I don't think it will because of lack of contents and management issues that are arising right now. Most of the game channels went to music. And KPOP..... considering what recently happened in last few days with T-ARA, I really don't think it deserves to be popular except for few groups.

LoL is not a very good game though and that's disappointing to hear as games like Sc2, DOTA 2, and CS are really better for competitive play.

I guess their definition of enjoyment differs from ours.

Also, are Korean really as fair and gentle in real life as they are on the TV screen?

I think it has something to do with the climate there.

They will be, at least if their government allows them. If their Automobile and Electronics sectors can build a reputation - ridding themselves from formerly 'cheap' brands, then, so could their games.

pretty sure no one ever credits the publisher for the quality of a game. even though it should be noted NCSoft was a very understanding publisher and let ANet spend 5 f*cking years (at least 3 of those without any news regarding development and progress) making the game, not setting on a release date until a month ago. also, technically GW2 still doesn't have any critical success. it's not out, and no one's reviewed it.

pretty sure their definition of enjoyment is on par with the average gamer, considering LoL is currently the most popular game in the world. you may not like it (neither do i), but that doesn't make it the standard.

No, our language has some crazy swear words that rival French, a lot of kids smoke and drink since middle school, and it's like Africa in summer and Canada in winter. Also a lot of Koreans are xenophobic and we've been at war since 1950, so there are surprisingly amount of McCarthyism going on still. There are good Korean people yes, but there are also bad Korean people. As with all other nationalities. Don't fantasize.
