I totally agree. BUt Sony's first party games have pretty much always sucked when it came to storyline or character development. I guess they just don't have any good writers... But Sony has learnt a lot, I mean Killzone 2 IS a great improvment on the original because they listened to the fans so maybe they will hire some good writers next time around.

Sev was given the gift of life, but how alive are we? In the society we inhabit materialism is the ruling principle. A dull glaze blurs our vision and degrades our relationships. What kind of association or spiritual community could make fiery, star-struck eyes, personal relationships that originate in a sense of the sacred, and viable actions and programs that express these relationships in society?
Other than that, he knows how to handle a weapon and ain't afraid to use it! ;)
Hmmm, I think if he is given a series of games then he could take off.
Marcus from GeOW just bugs me. That game is all manly grunts and what not. Great game, just a lot of the characters I didn't find appealing.

but same with the Resistance lead charactor also seems to lack something

no I dont care for non-living colors and lights put together to form a human-like picture.
then why game....a game is supposed to pull u in

Yeah he does. He just sin't given much of a personality. Really sucks. One thing some people need to work on is a compelling cast.

Yeah, Sev is a poor character. All the characters in KZ are rather poor. There's no reason to care about what you're fighting for.

Funny how you mention KZ2 lacks character and then go on to mention Marcus and Master Chief.

I think RPG charactors should have personality but I dont find it too important in FPS's. I mean how far is a personality going to get you on the battlefeild, You think they train you to have personality in the army.. no they train you to be a blood thursty robot because they make the best soldiers.

You're giving the developer a free pass. So it's alright in RPG's, but it's not alright in a game about survivial and often saving mankind?

Yeah, right. Why care about characters or a story at all? They are just pictures. Let's just make a game with coloured squares shooting at each other. And while we're at it just stop the production of movies and books. Come on, those characters aren't real. Why would anybody care?[QUOTE="chikenfriedrice"]

Watch some war movies. They manage to give the characters in those good personalities, why shouldnt games do the same?Lol you cared for marcus?
Ive played both games and never cared for them... Or master chief. both are just some guys vision of a futuristic rambo...
Ive not cared about many characters. Snake is a good one... But then that game's story was done by one man, which will always have feeling. The more people you get working on it the more the emotion gets taken out. Gears and gears 2 are the types of stories i can imagine being created in a meeting...
I think thats it. The worst is nathan hale from R2...

not really care but I enjoyed playin as them ya know...and I agree bout Nathan Hale
The onlyshooter iv played that has characters you actually get attached to is Half life 2. Gears characters suck. Especially cole train who has to be this genirations most anoying and lame character this gen.

I enjoyed playing the games god yeah. But tbh i could have been playing as anyone else in armour (not that youd notice as the face is hidden :P and i could have played as anoyone else with hige armour and a big neck. Or as any other ISA soilder. And as soon as we found ut there were others like nathan... that was it, he instantly lost the ounce of intrest he had. No, good characters for me were snake, that guy in Uncharted and ratchet. Ive not played loads of 360 games outside the mainstream so i dont know about that so much. are their any characters on the 360 with emotion or humor? The onlyshooter iv played that has characters you actually get attached to is Half life 2. U didn't feel bad bout that poor dude in Gears2 when he found his wife all dead and dusty lol it was sad!

I never said its not alright just not that big of a deal, Im not gunna say a FPS sux because the charactor doesnt emote enough.. I thought FPS's were about action and killing.. I dont remember the main guy from DOOM having a great personality, but I still loved that game.

It's not a must, but in this day and age, it's certainly nice to have something more than a cardboard cutout as the main character.
The best or worst character in a game happens to be in KZ2, Rico. Never before have I had so much emotion devoted to a single fictional character. Too bad in this case all the emotion I have towards Rico is negative. He is so freaking annoying! At the beginning of each level he is present in, the first thing I do is shoot him till he is mortally wounded and then I proceed to complete the level without his "assistance". Seriously though, either Guerilla Games failed by creating the most deplorable and hated character in the history of video games, or they are expert character designers and made as show real emotion towards a fictional character :xII_Seraphim_II
that's funny lol...he is annoying
It was alright until you cited Marcus Fenix and Master Chief as good main characters, those are terrible examples.angelkimne
better than Sev and better than Nathan

Your right. but I still think for FPS's, Action, gameplay, graphics, mean more than char personality. It is nice to have a gripping story and worthy people to go through that story, but I also dont mind (in FPS's) being random soldier Joe Smith.Doesnt make the game any less- fun.
I agree. For all that KZ2 does right, there was no connection to the main character for me. Games like Uncharted, Halo, Gears, and MGS are much more capable at connecting the player to the main character. I know this isn't important to many gamers, but for me, the characters are just as important as any other aspect of the game. And by that I mean a lead charactor.....Sev is not someone I care bout as a lead charactor...not even close to a Master Chief or Marcus

Believe it or not. Many people do play shooters for it's storyline and characters. It really isnt the point what aspect is more important.Singling out MC as an example of a great lead character makes little sense to me. Halo does a better job with the story overall, but Master Chief is basically Sev in a motocross helmet. The only interesting thing about him is his relationship with Cortana, other than that he's just a faceless shell. And by that I mean a lead charactor.....Sev is not someone I care bout as a lead charactor...not even close to a Master Chief or Marcus
