KZ2 was hyped to sell between 400-600k in the March NPD

Just so there is no confusion, and now that March NPD is here:

Systemwars voted as follows for KZ2's sales in the March NPD: the game was hyped to sell between 400-600k in March as the first place option, and the close second place option in March was 600 k +.

Killzone 2 sold 296 k in March and thus failed to live up to the hype.

Results of poll:

100-250k.... the game will be a complete failure 10% [12]

250k-400k.... it will be a moderate failure given that it was hyped PS3 savior 23% [27]

400k-600k.... it will be a moderate success 35% [42]

600k +.... it will be a smash hit. PS3 ftw 32% [38]

But yeah, Killzone 2 sold quite far below my expectations. It's no disaster though; I do think that it has legs and should be able to break a million in the next few months. I do wonder how it's doing worldwide though.

Why are Sales of a game attacked everytime an exclusive game gets AAA? That happened to LBP and Resistance 2 as well.

It looks like Sony has some good news to share with us. The boys and girls over at Sony HQ just issued a press release announcing that Killzone 2 has reached the million sold milestone.

"Following the revelation that Killzone 2 became the fastest SCEA title on PS3 to reach 500K sold, Sony today revealed that the critically acclaimed first-person shooter from Guerilla Games has sold over one million copies worldwide. The company pointed to the game as another example of an 'only on PlayStation experience," and noted that it will "continue to drive incentive for hardware sales throughout the year.'"

The fact is, Killzone 2 was setup to be THE mega shooter on the PS3 and it isn't selling like that. The sales are good, but they are in no way supportive of all of the crap that I have heard about it since it was introduced a few years ago. This was supposed to be one of the tentpole games that was to move the PS3's numbers. The numbers show it didn't do a damn thing. YES, cows are owned.

I am not one of the people who are calling "failure", but if you think Killzone 2 is anywhere near what people expected it to be for the PS3 sales momentum wise, you are seriously fooling yourself. I have said many times, that it is a quality game and I'm not changing that.

But PLEASE don't hand me this crap about "official" hype. Just save it. I know better. The game made AAA and it deserves it, but it did nothing to move PS3s out the store.

So, you are saying this game's SALES failed to live up to the hype?

SW isn't about sales Hype, it's about game Scores.

Of course Sony would love for this game to blow PS3's off the shelves, but it ain't...that doesn't change the fact that the rules of SW is about GS scores, not sales of a game.
