Uh oh epic face off. 1up reports that KZ3 might be slated for April 2011 release, which if you follow rumors is the same month as Gears 3 is rumored for release
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I doubt KZ3 and Gears 3 will launch in the same month.racing1750Why not? It's not like the timing seems that far off for either. Before there was a 3 month gap but KZ2 was done in December 08 (month after Gears 2 release), assuming the same type of development cycle. Sony and MS have put their shooters head to head before (Gears vs Resistance).
KZ cant see Gears in sales thats for sure
but KZ2 was really good so i think 3 could be better then Gears3 even tho their not that similar gears feels like uncharted and KZ2 kinda feels like BC2
We know next to nothing about both games but GeOW 3 willbe a bigger commercial sucess (that's guaranteed)
Not hyped for either at the moment, tbh.
But if I had to pick... Eh, probably Killzone 3. I'm just not hyped for a new Gears of War. That'll probably change when it's revealed, though.
gears 2 sold more then 5 mill, killzone 2 didnt reach 2 mills yet, gears 2 has high number ppl playing online (more then any ps3 game), killzone 2 is dead online....so who is going into this battle as the underdog? hmmmGears is going into that battle as the underdog after Gears 2, which online implementation left a vomit inducing taste in consumers mouths.
I don't gag when I think of Gears 3, but almost.

Sony would be insane to release Killzone 3 near Gears of War 3. They did that with Resistance 2 and Gears 2 basically curb stomped it. In fact Resistance 2's total sales STILL haven't matched Gears of War 2's first week sales.
Killzone 2 sold okay (though it's dead online now), but if Sony wants to make this an average 1.5-3 million selling franchise they can't release it near the big daddies like Halo, Gears, Call of Duty, GTA, etc. etc.
killzone 2 was really good. but if they refine the controls and gameplay and give us an equally impressive looking game.....you have a scary good game.
It would be a very bad idea for Sony to release Killzone around the time Gears 3 is released. It's a fine series and all that, but it won't come anywhere close to what Gears 3 will do in terms of sales.
Revolution316, KZ2 had sold 2.25 million, and the reason the online numbers are low (though when i play online, there is a constant amount of servers running matches, andat least 1000 or more people online at once)is because people were horrendous at the game, and could never get used to the controls, so they gave up and had moved to noob friendly games... *looks at the COD series*...also, its been stated by many, including reviewers that Gears 2's multiplayer, and i quote, was "broken", so honestly, stop discussing about something you do not not about.
>Killzone 2 sold okay (though it's dead online now)AHUGECATFunny that, yesterday I logged on and found a game to play on Killzone 2. I have done this several times over the course of the last two weeks. The only possible explanation is that I must be entering some kind of inversed reality when I play KZ2 online.
Ditto as long as the online components are up to snuff..Both of those are DAY ONE Buys from me....I can't wait.

Lol at 200 people playing each time. Halo 3 is almost 3 years old and has hundreds of thousands at any time.

Yes, and the # of ppl playing a game is indicative of the games quality. I guess farm ville must be an amazing game. / end sarcasmFunny that, yesterday I logged on and found a game to play on Killzone 2. Haha I actually tried Gears 1 again today, that's still really popular.
There are at least 1000 people that log on to KZ2 online everyday, i would know as i log in everyday, i do not understand were lemmings obtain these numbers honestly...

1,000 people for the day but any time there is only a couple hundred people, and that is embarrassing for a flagship title. Halo 2 (which is going to meet its demise soon) is more popular.

How does that affect my enjoyment of the title? I still play online. A new potential buyer has many people to play online against. As a gamer I dont understand why I should care...w.e...my point is. its killzone 2 that left a bad taste in consumers mouths....gears online broken? still most played compared to any ps3 game. its just that good.Revolution316, KZ2 had sold 2.25 million, and the reason the online numbers are low (though when i play online, there is a constant amount of servers running matches, andat least 1000 or more people online at once)is because people were horrendous at the game, and could never get used to the controls, so they gave up and had moved to noob friendly games... *looks at the COD series*...also, its been stated by many, including reviewers that Gears 2's multiplayer, and i quote, was "broken", so honestly, stop discussing about something you do not not about.

Yes, let's ignore the fixing they've done since then  . Get off your high horse or heap of past judgements your sitting on.Gears of War 3 will win the sales battle, I guarantee it. However, KZ3 will probably be received by critics better.
Geow3>KZ3 in terms of popularity, kz2's multiplayer was not user friendly at all, most people DONT like the heavy feel and bullet lag was a pretty bad combination and dont forget the horrible death animation. kz3 needs to improve ALOT on its MP like seriously it was not enjoyable, i had to force myself to play it to make my money worth i did enjoy the SP though that was fun.LenGenEr so you want it to be casualized and easy like CoD games? Yeah no thanks. I dont mind if you dont have the skill for the game, but that doesnt mean you need to bash it.

Gears 1 & 2 were awesome SP games, but i just didnt enjoy the menu and trying to get through to play online on them and then have the problem with Gears 2 of a broken MP

umm...how did you come to that conclusion? Both Gears have a higher metacritic average than KZ2.

As a gamer I dont understand why I should care... agreed with alextherussian here I managed to find more than 200 people playing the game just last night, played for at least 4 hours straight, the online isn't dead. the amount of people playing doesn't stop me from enjoying the title either, its a great game. Halo 3's online is fun but i don't see myself playing that as long as Killzone 2, Killzone 2 feels more hardcore to me, lolI will take Killzone 3 over Gears 3 any day, heck id camp a day if i could get the game early. I was blown away by the 2nd one even after playin Crysis twice.

In a world where people keep playing the craptastic online implementations like Gears2, I don't see anything redeeming about your argument of sales. Also Killzone's multiplayer is far from death. People that are playing it can attest to that and the numorous awards it won as a robust multiplayer experience attests to its quality.
Don't spread lies.
I doubt KZ3 and Gears 3 will launch in the same month.racing1750Maybe back to back.. like March April, or April May.. I would have to agree with slight confidence. It could happen.. I'll purchase both games easily, on day one but I'm not quite sold on Killzone's gameplay. KZ2 was really rocky in terms of gunplay. Almost to the point where I was annoyed and stopped playing for months. Gears of War series on the other hand plays extremely well. It's one of those games like Halo 3 where you can easily jump in and out of.. It doesn't require streneous controls tacked on with nausea and headache after a few minutes of gameplay.

Funny that you said this.
People were expecting Epic to deliver an extremely polished online experience for Gears 2 after the so so experience of Gears1. Epic noted the heavy feedback from Gears 1 (beceause people loving something are more urged to give feedback) and all went to vacation and basically said **** you consumer.
Anything coming from the words of Epic about its online multiplayer is taken with a grain of salt.
KZ2 was really rocky in terms of gunplay.Elian2530
KZ2 gunplay is easily the best out there. Other games feel just "flat" after it.
