What do you think of games getting a redo due to bad features?

In one way I think it's good cause technically you're getting a better product, but on the other hand the "lair" problem seemed pretty obvious in the first place, and makes me think the developer really doesn't know what their doing in the first place.

Bonus chat: What are some redo's needed in past games??

Halo 2 needed to redo it's cutscenes, no loads was cools, but popping cutscenes w/ worse graphics than in-game was pretty pathetic.

If it's to fix the bad controls (which the delay is undoubtedly for), then of course it should be seen as a good thing.

How much can they "redo" in a couple of weeks ? I think they saw some problems that need addressing and they are trying to fix them. This would probably be better than just shipping it and the trrying to patch fixes in.

You'd think these things would pop up during testing and be changed then, not now. Having last minute changes like this shows desperation more than anything else.

It depends what they're fixing. If they're fixing the controls and making the tilt optional, I'd say it's good. If they're simply making improvements to the graphics that wouldn't have effected the game before they had been fixed, it'd be bad.

RahnAetas

What are you talking about, there is no news to why it was delayed for one month...for all we know it could be due to marketing or a strategic time of launch.

You make it sound like Lair is the only game to get delayed...if I recall Mass Effect and Bioshock both got delayed.

Sure a lot of games get delayed, but for the most part they are delayed during early development, or during the final testing stages. Delays happening at the very end of the development cycle screams of desperation.

Answer this question, WHY not do that in an online update? I mean you're not alienating the offline audience, because only those going online have to worry about online leaderboards - the only reason something would need to be changed on the actual disc is so that you cover both the online and offline audience from something that needs to be changed drastically.

Delays happening at the end of the "supposed" development cycle...you forget that the release dates are flexible and if they are not on schedule in their development cycle then dates can be pushed back. You dont know it was pushed back and its only pushed back for less then a month. Desperation is what Too Humanhas been doingsince its supposed appearance on the PS1.

We dont know why it was delayed.

Would love to, but I am not going to get an answer - instead I want to ask you why you are so absolutely sure this is leaderboard tweaking when approaching the situation using logic.

I really can't believe people think its a bad thing - It's much better than releasing a patch later especially when the game is to be released for a console where most of the users have the pop and play mentality. People should appreciate the fact that the developers are atleast trying to make some improvements to the game

It has to be leaderboards because how are they going to add an entire new controls scheme in three weeks?

I asked myself the same question. But my guess is that they developed two control schemes reguardless. They tried to really be the trend setter for the motion sensing controls but after a lil backlash from a major magazine they prolly thought it best to go back and just add analog control. You have to remember that a lot of planning goes into projects like this. I'm sure that's what's going on.

And for the people believeing that it's only for the online features need to realize that Factor 5 isn't going to come out and say, "We're delaying it because reviewers said the controls suck".

As Miyamoto once said:

"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is always bad."

While there are some incances where I'd beg to differ, in general I think it's true. I'd rather a game come out a month late and be all it can than come out a month earlier and be dissapointing. However, where I'd dissagree is when you get ridiculous 2 year delays like with Twilight Princess, or even worse, TEN year indefinate delays like Duke Nukem Forever and Too Human!

I agree. They're delaying the game to likely add an alternative analog control scheme. That's a very good thing, or at least, very smart. It may not reflect that well on them as in "do these guys really have their **** together?", but at least it shows that they're not afraid to accept criticism and to even act on it.

Of course, they didn't admit the real reason for the delay, but we all know. No developer is stupid enough to delay a game literally 2 weeks away from release only to spruce up the online leaderboards. It has to be for something quite serious, like the way the game controls, and there are very few things more important in gaming than that.

Think about what's worse: not delaying the game and pissing off probably a lot of consumers and garnerning even more bad reviews and negative word-of-mouth (which means even less sales), mostly because of your control scheme, or delaying the game slightly to fix the issue with the controls and probably end up putting out a more successful product? It's a no-brainer. The only people owned by this are cows who hyped Lair up to be this amazing AAA game.

That's what they're saying PUBLICLY. However, most people suspect it's because of EGM slamming the sixaxis-only controls.

If they do not change the controls they will get bad reviews.

If they change the controls they admit they were bad, and needed changing.

Either way they are idiots.

When a game goes gold, it is supposed to be done, and is as good as shipped and ready to be sold. At that stage of the development cycle, the last thing anyone expects is the release date to be pushed back. What they did was basically lie about the status of the game.

Well they're probably just getting the ranking system up cause didn't the game go gold? I doubt they'd trash the copies already made just to add in analog flight controls for all the complainers.

Yeah, I'm sure some RUSHED last minute changes willy really ad value! I predicted floppage for Lair the first time I saw it. I'm a PS3 owner, and I want good games. Unfortunately, this one will not be good.
