Only FPS games I've played recently are Killzone 4: SF and COD: AW.. Neither of them were great.
Does Bioshock Infinite count as FPS or RPG? If we can include that, then it is definitely the best FPS I've played in almost a decade.

Been so long ago that i don't remember. Infinite was the last 'awesome' fps probably
Looking at other peoples answers in this thread.. Bioshock Infinite is the only game I'd genuinely call "awesome". others have been okay though.
Metro LL and Wolfenstein TNO ( good but not exactly in the awsome category ) Metro LL is leagues above anything i played recently including Wolfenstein
Can't even remember. I think it's been about 7 or 8 years since I've played one.
Unless we're counting Metroid Prime, I did a series replay not too long ago.

yea pretty much
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. Best FPS this year (so far). I'm currently replaying Fallout 3 (modded to hell to look decent and have friggin iron sights) for Fallout 4 hype, but FPS wise, it's downright terrible. Especially compared to Wolfentein. All the other games I've played this year have been strategy, RPGs, or action-adventure.
Come to think of it though, there hasn't really been much competition this year in terms of FPSs. Hardline was blah, Evolve sucked, Dying Light was decent, but melee focused. And that's really it for this year.
Battlefront, and Killing Floor 2 look like good times, but aren't out yet (also Fallout 4, but it falls more in the realm of RPG...hopefully). For Black Ops 3; I think CoD fatigue has finally set in and the series is in decline, so I don't have high hopes for it.
SP:- Metro Redux, Wolfenstein New Order , FC4, Shadow Warrior. Online:- Ghost Recon Online/Phantoms, ArmaIII, Insurgency, Verdun.
Crysis Warhead 2008.
A lot of good-really good games since, but no great ones. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl if you want something that isn't an expansion. Tribes Ascend could have been great, but it needed more : (
If we're counting replays: Metroid Prime. It's The GOAT
Wolfenstein made me feel sick. Like James Bond Nightfire did. It's a shame because I loved the concept.
Metro Last Light consumed me while it lasted (damn those spider things!). Really awesome overall experience. Gameplay wise I thought the arcade mode in Call Of Juarez Gunslinger was a blast!
Out of anything recent I would say Wolfenstien and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. Advanced Warfare had a surprisingly great campaign.
it's also the best game to troll someone.
Umm.. Team Fortress 2? Played that yesterday. :P Anyway, FPSs have sucked for quite a while now. I'm eagerly awating some, though:
Unreal Tournament
Deus Ex: Something
Doom 4
Overwatch (a new TF2, yay!)
Fallout 4
Shadow Warrior 2
Hopefully the FPS genre will look better soon..
EDIT: I forgot a game that I think was actually good. So, Dying Light is the last good FPS I've played.

Whats great about AW sp campaign? and whats the lenght of the campaign in Hrs? I stopped playing COD sp after Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 , so curious :)
@indzman: It's about the same length as CoD 4 and it's paced extremely well. The game is just exciting and they mix up the level diversity a bit more than your average CoD. It's far less "on-rails" than the last few CoDs. It's still a linear shooter, but it doesn't feel as restricted as others.
Honestly can't think of one. The New Order was good but nothing truly exceptional. Genre's been seriously lacking in greatness if you ask me.
TBH the genre is fine. Considering all platforms, we had the STALKER series, Metro, Crysis, HALO, Borderlands, Battlefield etc etc. Its just that now just isn't the time for FPS, they are being overshadowed by technically everyone. Particularly RPGs, followed by...well, sadly "movie" TPS, space sims/exploration making a huge comeback, MMOs (its seeing really good reception on consoles) and heck, even indie games are taking everyone's attention.
Its just going through its "dark ages", just like I supposed RPGs went through for a bit years back.

mhm, will keep a eye on AW then on a sale. Thanks for the feedback wasdie :)
Fps genre is very saturated, some great lots very bad. I enjoyed titanfall for a couple months. Destiny was fun if you overlook lack of story and have time to grind. Bf4 was great I was lucky to not have the issues a lot of ppl did. wolfenstein looked good from the tiny bit I played. Halo mcc campaigns are still awesome. Trying to get some time with far cry 4 soon it's very impressive, my bro was showing it off to me and I can't get it out my head how sweet the game play is. Really excited for the upcoming star wars idc if there's space battles never cared for them in the last one. Fallout might be good if it's not a glitch fest as many Bethesda games start off as.
I've enjoyed a few, such as Planetside 2. But I wouldn't describe it as "awesome". Probably the last "awesome" fps I played was either Halo 2 or Timesplitters 3.
I guess after that we went into the 360/PS3 gen which started the whole oversaturated market of the FPS genre, which is probably why I don't consider any of them awesome.
