I've come to a tenative conclusion concerning which next gen system to buy. I've been researching for about two weeks now and put in a lot of time on this forum for information. If you see a flaw in my logic or something I have overlooked in making this decision, please point it out. This is a fairly big investment for me and I'd rather not get ripped off because I didn't have all the facts.
I've decided on the PS3 for the following reasons:
I am not a super hardcore gamer, I typically enjoy sport games (EA and 2K), historic and modern fps, and the occasional well-made and well-reviewed blockbuster type game. I'd imagine buying about 3 or 4 games a year with Madden, FIFA, and a couple others as the staples year to year. I don't really anticipate playing online very much at all.
With that said, the availablegames are currently lacking on the PS3, but taking into account where the system is in its lifespan (10 months old) and where the 360 was at 10 months, upcoming releases, and recent performance of multiplat games (Tiger Woods 08 scoring better on the PS3), I think the PS3 game library will be very solid and easily meet my needs.
I watch a lot of movies with my lady and friends and the blu-ray as well as the PS3's ability to seemlessly upconvert standard dvds to high def is really attractive to me. Another thing with movie viewing is the fact that the PS3 is quiet and doesnt have a loud fan like the 360. Blu-ray seems to be ahead at the moment (although I admit I have no idea which format will win out) and if I'm gonna gamble on a new format why not take the one that is ahead.
I really like how the PS3 can update itself via internet and stay updated so easily. This leads me to believe the PS3 will be relevent for a long time and continue to improve. Paying an extra $150 for the more reliable (no RROD), more promising, and in the end more capable and multi-talented system seems like the right choice.
I think the 360 is a very good system and has the better gaming right now. Microsoft will always keep it competitive and the add ons available can make it identical to the PS3 in terms of capabilities but also cost. However, I see the PS3 as the all-in-one package and the system with the more promising future. It has the games I want as well as the features.
I know this will start some fanboyish arguing and what not, but this is my take on the two systems based on my situation. Please feel free to correct me and give your well-backed opinions as you see necessary. Thanks a lot, this forum has been a big help.
