Last Gen = JRPGS...This Gen = FPS...Next Gen = ????

So what genre of game will dominate next gen?

Will it be:

FPS again (God please NO)

JRPGs (Lol they sadly died out)

WRPGs (hmm more Bioware is always good)

Platformers?? (nah but all hail MARIO)

TPS (yessahh its more fun when FPS)

RTS (Lolwut?)

So what genre do you see dominating and what genre would you like to see more of next gen.

Well,it´s already the most played genre in the world.

I'm calling Third person shooters. I can see more games like Inversion (basically a TPS with an intriguing mechanic) coming out in spades next gen. Maybe I'm wrong, but since I suck at FPS, I hope I'm right :D.

It doesn't seem like FPSs are dying off any time soon. How about FPS MMOs?

I have a feeling that the future has two directions: MMO games or motion-controlled-gimmick games. We already know which direction Nintendo is going, but as for Sony and Microsoft, they will follow Nintendo or one of them will update their online system, improve the multiplayer experience and the other will follow that direction.

Not just MMORPGs, but MMOFPSs, MMO Grand Theft Auto etc....

I'm pretty sure FPSs will continue to dominate next generation and maybe the gen after that.

I hope platformers :)

TPS and FPS game with RPG elements will be the next gen thing, and mmos.

So long as it's not FPS games I'll be happy...I have my doubts though.

I've said it before, and I will say it again, FPS's didn't just become crazy popular this gen, they have been building up popularity ever since they started being true 3D FPS games, with ones like HL, CS, and GE. Then they were more popular last gen, and now even more popular this gen. Notice a trend? People just love FPS games lol. Do I think there may be a bit more veriety in genres next gen? Sure, but FPS will remain very popular.

Hopefully if Devs decide to put MMOs on next gen consoles they don't turn this PC oriented genre into console ports like what happened to most FPS.

For PCs=MMOs, they are the most played genre, and I am sure there are plenty of people wanting a piece of the pie, not to mention the genre is really diverse.
For Consoles=Hybrids, usually taking ques from the RPG genre.

MMOs. They are only growing in popularity and Microsoft (Sony already has an entire MMO division) would be stupid to not want a peice of the pie. Nintendo is restrictive about online games so I don't see it working on their console. The PC will still have the largest amount of them probably.

It's going to be FPS again. To think otherwise would be foolish.

I forsee yet more focus on FPS games and action titles. It's what the casual masses have chosen. They're not simply going to switch to another genre just like that. I'd love JRPGs to make a come back in some form but I doubt thats going to happen.

I seriously doubt mmos dominate the gaming market. Most people playing mmos arent going out and playing every mmo, just a select few, mainly WOW. People are hungry for new shooters constantly whether from Counter Strike to Halo to COD. Shooters haven't just been popular this gen it's been rising since the beginning and now it's exploded. MMOs are interesting because when they succeed they succeed big, but they either succeed or utterly fail so I really dont see developers turning away from FPSs in the future.

Since when JRPGs won last gen??? the PS1/N64/Saturn era had better and more popular RPGs(not just JRPGs).

Games like GTA/Bully/Manhunt/Silent Hill/RE/MGS were more popular than JRPGS last gen.

MMOFPS concepts like Planetside and Dust514 (titan?!) are bound to get massivly hyped eventually, i'm pretty confident that MMOFPS is the next big thing.

I hope MMOFPS takes off, MMO's are so much fun when the community is there.

All we need is COD and Madden.

The only reason why shooters are so popular is because of the online aspect. Playing with others is becoming the trend like Facebook and/or Twitter. I would be more than happy to see Platformers and action-adventure games came back in style.

Shooters have already pretty much moved this direction already.

Hybrid genres will be the future i persume.

I mean games like Bioware, Bethesday and a few others to a limited extent are already there.

but that is what i'm guessing is the future.

However as for the college-bro-gamer i dunno yet. something simple and addictive.

RPG hybrid. We saw a bit of it this gen with some great games. Next gen it will take over :PSaltyMeatballs

I agree with you on this one. Most fps and tps will eventually become Mass Effect-ish.

CRPG's (Chinese RPG's).

Jade Empire was the only action RPG set in China but sadly it didn't sell wel so BioWare abandoned it. Hopefully they'll make the sequel someday.
