be prepared for massive, omg 360 is teh super low sales lolersk8z, damge control. RBlair21088
Damage controle or bragging is not the purpose of this post. Just trying to start a debate about the current trend in Japan, and what that means for the industry if it continues....
WOO-HOOO!! THE 360 IS POISED TO TAKE OVER JAPAN!!! :D
seriously tho; with the ps2 outselling the ps3, it appears as tho japan hasn't got the memo that sony started the "next gen" already...
really poor for your homefield, sony...:lol:
PS3 is being outsold by the PS2. Whatever happened to cows getting all riled up by the 360 being outsold by old hardware?Metroid_Time
Prob the same reason why Sheep don't care that the DS is outselling the Wii.
A company does not compete with itself. Sony has slots 3,4 and 5 all to itself. That is not a bad thing at all.

That makes no sense. Handhelds should out sell home consoles due to their price points and huge game selections. Sony should be extremely worried that the PS3 is till being outsold by the PS2. If there is no significant install base then developers will shy away from the PS3.
I am not sure I understand the big deal....so the this proves the PS2 is still outselling the PS3 by one grand...well last weeks sales would have told you that and also lets not forget the NPD numbers where the PS2 even outsold the Wii so how is it being this close to the PS2 sales a bad thing when the 360 cant get close to beating the PS2s monthly sales?
And somehow people say this is bad for Sony and not MS, why??? Sony is making money off of Japan unlike the 360, just because the 360 is not expected to sell well in Japan doesnt mean it doesnt hurt it any more. Take a look at last months sales for Japan and NA
PS3 for March in Japan and NA - 265,098
Xbox 360 for March in Japan and NA - 216,003
Thats the benefit of having the Japanese market and the con of not having the Japanese market. Its still selling consistantly well and far from flopping in Japan, especially since it has only a few games available.
PSP is falling back to normalcy. Everything else is expected.
Actually, isn't the PS2 below normal sales too?

PS3 is done in Japan. This just pathetic. There is no hope for PS3 in Japan until FFXIII comes out and by that time I feel that it might already be too late. The amount of sales its accumulating over the PS3 weak after weak is just insane. Blackbond
LOL..and what do you think will take the place of the PS3 since its so "pathetic", the 360....LOL please. Or do you think that Japan will just not get GT, RE5, NG, MGS, FF, and others and just play with the Wii. I dont think so. The PS3 is selling just fine, the Wii is a console that appeals to a different audience with different tastes in games. The Japan sales for the PS3 spiked just because of the release of Gundam Mosou...what do you think will happen when heavy hitters actually start to launch. You should not make judgements like that so early in the game.
nice post btw javey. as for the 360 comment in japan. i notice that lemmings like to make up excuses or just set new rules on a daily basis. they feel that is A OK to fail in japan because its expected to. where PS3 is still out selling the 360 in japan with no games. which i still find very weird. but reason why a person makes up excuses is they are affraid to admit which is why ppl make excuses. so in this case lemmings make up excuses because they are affraid to admit that MS is loosing money in japan. any how tha is my out take on that. off to lunch.I am not sure I understand the big deal....so the this proves the PS2 is still outselling the PS3 by one grand...well last weeks sales would have told you that and also lets not forget the NPD numbers where the PS2 even outsold the Wii so how is it being this close to the PS2 sales a bad thing when the 360 cant get close to beating the PS2s monthly sales?

360 suffers in Japan, but it rules the land with the Wii here in NA and actually has an established market.
PS3 has no real established market, a smaller install base than expected and has its sales dropping consistantly now in Europe (after a huge launch) and here in NA (where they're about as non-existant as 360 in Japan) Seeing those Japanese figures must make Sony cringe. Japan was a PS2 stronghold last-gen, now they're seeing their last generation console destroying their new one. Won't be long now till PS3 falls to 360's Japanese sales, and that will mark the end of the PS3.
What's telling here is the fact that PS3 is really not trouncing the 360. I know selling four times as many sounds great, and it is, but with the PS3's lackluster sales in the US, Sony needs to really dominate in the Japanese market to make up for the 360's dominance worldwide. Selling 8,000 more units a week just isn't going to get the job done. Assuming that worldwide the 360 has a 7 million unit head start and we'll even say that Sony is equaling sales in the US (which of course they aren't) that means it will take them 875 weeks at this point to overcome the 360 lead. That's a fairly grim picture and puts a lot of pressure on Sony Europe to some how totally destroy the 360 to make up for it.
I know sales numbers will change with major releases but all sides will have those and trying to take them all in to account would take to long. Sony needs to be more heavily dominating in the months where they have no major releases to push systems.

LOL..its not gonna fall to the 360s level, just because sales drop doesnt mean it will drop forever. This is april, a dry area in console sales and all consoles have dropped in sales like the PS2 as well. Its fallen just around the same rate as the PS2s sales and those are far from poor. The 360 is at that level because Japan doesnt want a 360, they never had wanted an MS console and MS didnt do much to persuade them to jump in. As long as the PS3 stays close to the PS2s sales it will be fine. I think people are jumping to alot of conclusions, the NPD sales for the 360 dropped from Feb. to april...does that mean it will fall to Japans standards too..of course not, we are looking at sales on a weekly basis. Of couse sales like that will fluctuate.
guys, quit falling back on the ps2 as a defense for Sony
last week in japan
PS3 = 11,948 x $300 LOSS per console = -$3,600,000
PS2 = 12,872 x $130 = $1,690,000
even if the ps2's retail price is 100% profit (which it is NOT), Sony still loses 2 million dollars overall on console sales in Japan last week
no more "sales of the ps2 are going to help Sony drop the ps3 price" comments any more ok

LOL..for the PS3 to fall to the level of the 360 that would mean the Japanese would just say they never have intentions to play anything but nintendo and party games and not have, GTA, GT, MGS, RE5, Silent Hill, FF, and tons of other titles that the Wii lacks and the PS3 get with some going to the 360. The 360 is not gonna rise up to take the PS3 position as only well sold powerful system.
Right now the PS3 is outselling the 360 in Japan and Europe and is selling very well in NA, with not a huge game between a console that has a years worth of games over it and a 200 dollar cheaper price tag. The PS3 hasnt even pumped out a heavy hitter yet and its doing this well. The PS3 is not gonna sell worse then 360 in Japan or Europe, yes sales are gonna drop because its april but the PS2s sales dropped just as well yet we all know the PS2 is still the hot item outselling all the next gen consoles including the Wii for March in NA NPD. As long as the PS3 stays close to the PS2 sales until its hit games come out it will be doing fine.
wow good post btw. but you forgot to mention. these consoles are bound to loose money period. these consoles are made for long term, not short term. all 3 companies know they will loose money in the first few years, it's only common sense.guys, quit falling back on the ps2 as a defense for Sony

You are talking about a WEEKS worth of data for the month of april with no new releases. The PS2s sales dropped as well. Sony getting these numbers with no new games and a handful so far is not bad.

He also forgot to mention that Consoles make money off of software, not so much hardware and Sony has its games as well as the push its giving blu ray so it will make money two ways as opposed to one. You also forget that consoles get cheaper over time and SOny has cheaper blu ray parts, smaller cell, focus on emulation and not PS2 hardware in PS3, and outsourcing the Cell. All of those things are making the PS3 cheaper.
360 is lower so TOPIC FAILS
i have a ps3,ps2,psp,ds,wii and 360
Tnasty11
You probbaly forget that PS3 was supposed to sell 100x in Japan, since PS2 had 100x the install base than xbox, right ?
Selling just a few thousand more is a pure disaster for PS3
Wii is outselling PS3 more than 6:1, and DS is outselling PSP more than 3:1.
It bring a smile to my face to see Sony phail so :D
The Truth is Nintendo has GOT Japan. Its over for Sony and Microsoft. Sony will be playing catchup to Nintendo's POS machine for the next 5 years, and then Nintendo will release a new Wii in pink, and gold for $100 each, and sell another 40 million.
Japan = Sheep

Nintendo has been making money on each and every console they have sold.
