L4D is ugly because it's running on an old ass engine. That's why I play games like Gears 2 to get my graphics and gameplay fix.

Of course continue enjoying your 8.5 game. ;) The reason why L4D was ported over to the 360 is because Valve knows where the money is nowadays, they're not like old stuck in their way hermits who are too entrenched in their beliefs that the PC is the future of all gaming. As usual though, Valve like many cheap cash in on consoles PC developers, opted for a half decent port over job, instead of really pushing the console to its powerful limits.

That's my point as well. The 360 could definitely handle it and look just identicle to teh PC version, but it doesn't. The port just wasn't what the Orange Box was IMO.

Hmm.. Well I haven't played the PC version as of yet but that would be disappointing coming from such a great dev. :(

Orange box was a lousy port over to the 360, the PS3 version doesn't even bare mentioning. And just to answer your original question, Valve made enough out of the 360 version to justify bringing over L4D on release to the 360. Expect more Valve console/PC simultaneous releases in the future.

Valve made more than enough from a lousy port over job with the Orange Box, which is why L4D is a simultaneous console/PC release. Expect more of the same in the future.

It'snot necessarily a *bad* port, just not near the quality of the OB or Bioshock ports. Kind of disheartening considering it's Valve (well Turtle Rock studios). The time probably just wasn't there to make it as crisp of a transfer....

None of you people actually READ. I said it's great that they can still enjoy the game, to a degree, but it's sad Valve had to do that just because people are too uninformed to buy the PC version. Reading comprehension?

How do you know? Maybe we are "informed" and it's a "preference"

You know what's convenient? Buying L4D on Steam and not even leaving the house... Along with automatic updates, a 45 dollar price tag on the pre-order and automatic map downloading on custom servers... How is that not convenient? So what's more convenient? Going to the store, and buying the game on your 360? Or buying it on Steam without even leaving the comfort of your own house? Honestly, it would take more time to go to the store and buy it then to set all the graphical options up on your PC. Having it delivered to your house makes this point moot, but I bet most people go to the store to buy it.

All I know is that when the game is in my mailbox on the day of release, I just pop the disc in the tray and play within 30 secons. And if I get tired of it, I can eBay it.

Besides, as I mentioned earlier, the people I play with all own 360s.  I know it'll work on their consoles.  I can't say the same for their PCs.

I don't think anyone actually cares about making a trip to the store.I find it more satisfying to have a material disc and case myself. The simple fact is that PC gaming is too expensive, introverted, uncomfortable or whatever for some people. I savour being able to play games in a lounge set up... it just feels fresher and more exciting that way.

Sorry, but your point is only a winner for fat nerds. Your arguments only seem good to those who agree with you.

As you can all guess, I purchased Left 4 Dead recently. Great game. That's why it's a shame that Valve is porting it o the HEXBOX 360!

Although the graphics look similar, it is uglier because Steam uis not there to support it and the fact that NO MODS BECAUSE MS IS TRYING TO KILL PC GAMING SINCE THEY ALREADY HAVE A MORBIDLY MALICIOUS MONOPOLY ON CONSOLES!

It's great that some Consolities too stupid to buy a PC can play it, but it's a shame Valve had to go that far just to please the idiotic masses. Do yourself a favor, Lemmings: buy Left 4 Dead PC. Support Valve, support Steam, support open systems.

Don't whine about upgrades, I'm sure 98 percent of people here can run Left 4 Dead no problem.

Definitely saw your last sentence, that's why I responded the way I did. The real answer is you don't know if it sold more on Steam than in brick n mortar retail. Just like you don't know if more people bought it for the 360 online as opposed to making a trip to the store. Without knowing, your specific argument of convenience is, as you say, moot.

Again, different preferences. Evidentally we play games differently, as I find that Iam less immersed in my PC gaming and often enjoy simple, uncomplicated gaming anyway  - it's a matter of escapism for me. Maybe it's because my PC isn't up to scratch, but most gamers - who probably aren't represented much on this forum - are more likely to have a good lounge set-up than a good PC set-up, because let's face it, most people don't spend that much money on their computers.

Maybe it's a thing of hardcore vs casual gamers, but on the whole I find console gaming to be a much more social and enjoyable experience.

Your arguments only seem good to those who agree with you.

supreme-smiter

At first, i was liking your opinion, until you started with the nerd stuff, then you lost all respect in me..and it seems like im going to have to chalk up another Flame for today... First of all, Many people would rather stay at home and play games rather then going out, and buying games, it saves gas money, and overall is alot more convient than going out to the store, Now i dont care what the game comes in...just as long as i get the damn game. Secondly, the simple fact is, Console gaming is, Too simplistic, dosent offer enough customization, Doesn't offer better online support or online game play in general, leans way to heavy on micro transactions, Can be EVEN MORE expensive than a gaming PC setup, Its a closed platform, Games cost 60 dollars or whatever.., i can do the exact same thing for consoles, A desk is no different than playing on a HDTV, its all about being ingaged in the game, which IMO PC gaming does MUCH better than console gaming. Thirdly, His point is correct, and i agree, but i think he misunderstood a tad, but other than that hes dead on..Like many people have said before, PC gaming is becoming more eaiser to work with, while consoles are becoming a hassle every gen, and every Gen PC gaming always maintains a balance between the both.

Again, different preferences. Evidentally we play games differently, as I find that Iam less immersed in my PC gaming and often enjoy simple, uncomplicated gaming anyway  - it's a matter of escapism for me. You would think that a simple and uncomplicated way of gaming would be less immersive, but maybe that's just me.

I like how you don't present any arguements but instead resort to mocking me. Looks like I've already won.

the xbot lems always say stupid no brained remarks like that instead of actually making a legitimate argument. M$ is the reason pc gaming has been in decline, I have been saying this for years now, their ultimate goal is to have 1 closed console system run by them but with differnent companies making the hardware(kinda like how they do the os on pc's). It would stiffle compitition and be the worst thing for the gaming industry. I will never pay to play online for a console. And source engine or anything else will always look better on pc!

360 users are having tons of fun with their inferior version due to the social part of it. I don't think they care much about what the PC version carries because they're having enough fun as it is. Why don't you let them have their fun?mo0ksi

I agree...I get pretty tired of pcgamers trying to get everyone to switch to pc because of some slight graphics upgrades. Really...Cant we all just play our games without being harrased?

Why can't we just appreciate a great game. I am tired of the fact with all this superity and inferiority complexes everyone has. Its fun on either systems. I should know I own both copies. People forget its not about the system its on, its about the people you play it with. This a must own title whether on PC or 360, whether or not it haws a few less or more things. Fun equals fun and that what this game is about. Appreciate the game, and thats it.

Me? I murder it with my specs.

prove you wrong? thats so easy. Just go delete that account already b4 continuing to read my post.

You said that MS is trying to kill PC gaming? ROFL are you serious? You're talking about MS, whose huge investment is in the PC industry and on recent gotten onto the console market. You do understand that the huge advantage of windows over mac when it comes to gaming right? Theres a reason that every hardcore gamer gets a PC instead of a mac.. so now you're saying that MS is trying to kill PC gaming?

The chances are, Valve wanted to make more money, saw lower development costs in making a 360 version and released it to lemmings.

You lost sorry, now go back and check if that account was actually deleted.

Don't make me laugh! M$ didn't invest in pc gaming, maybe back in the 90's but not since the xbox. In fact they tried to put live on pc but pc gamers aren't brainless zombie's like the lems, we know better! We don't pay to play online, when M$ made halo2 vista only and shadowrun you had to have a gold account to play online against xbox players or you didn't get voice chat without the gold account.... The game flopped and flopped hard! We have steam and impulse which are totally free and offer more then live. M$ takes good Ensemble the makers of AGe of empires away to make a stupid halo game then they pull the killswitch on them before they finsih, now no more Age of Empires...their reason Ensemble was not in their strategy for the future of xbox...hmmm but they are a pc dev...but I guess the pc doesn't matter. why don't they advertise pc games on pc. Why is Flight simulator the last M$ published pc game? There used to be tons of those! MS has abbandoned pc gaming. And hell they are putting more resources into xbox then windows anymore, VIsta sucks, and everyone knows it. The company started going down hill the moment billy gates stepped down and Air-head bahmer took over. I love my pc and my ps3 and will never own a xbox for the way they treat pc gamers!

Yeah, once Bill Gates left the helm and retired, the whole company really took a turn for the worst.

I think the pc version is the best version not because of the graphic, but because valve will support it more on the pc.

Fact is, they [Valve] need the console market to attain the sales levels that PC exclusivity alone simply cannot achieve.

And seeing as how the 360 is easy to port games to, it makes perfect sense seeing as how development costs are minimal.

This is system wars. Of course you can't.

Pretty tired of only PC gamers? I have found numerous multiplat threads where people think that game (a) looks better on console (x) than console (y). Where there actually is a slight graphical difference. Very slight. GTA 4, Mirror's edge, WaW, Fallout 3, etc. Truth is, console fanboys are just as much graphics whore as PC gamers, if not more sometimes.

And now that there is this large gap between the PC version and the 360 version, you flame pc gamers for stating this. That's pretty unfair.

And slight is an understatement. With more enemies on screen, mods, more details in textures, higher support from Valve, and user made maps, PC version is better.

But you're right. Gameplay wise, they're identical. This is no way that 360 owners can't enjoy the game. I mean it is the same game developed by Valve.
