I've played them both extensively so I can rate them without being too bias!

Xbox:

Pros

- Higher percentage of people have mics

- Everyone gets the same performance (better for competition)

- Directional movement is better with control stick(edit: this means it's better than 'WASD," I'm not talking about camera control)

Cons

- Controller isn't as responsive as mouse

- Limited to 30 FPS (frames per second)

- No mods or custom maps

- Less frequent updating

- Priced higher

PC

Pros

- Everyone can communicate via keyboard

- Can get better performance if hardware is better

- sv_cheats, mods, and custom maps

- More responsive controls

Cons

- Less people have microphones

- Not everyone can run the game well enough

Verdict: PC>Xbox

This is my opinion. Even though I think the PC version is better, the 360 version is more enough to get the full experience of L4D (without mods or custom maps).

What do you think about the two versions?

um more people on the pc have mics than xbox. pc gaming has had voice chat for over a decade now. second ,mouse and keyboard are way better in every way shape or form for FPSs. controllers have no advantage. and for this game the hardware thing is hardly an issue. even onboard mobo gpus can run it

Having played both versions and being unable to overcome the unrelenting frustration that is trying to play an FPS using a controller, the PC version trumps the 360 version by a light year.

Even though it's choppy going back, you really don't notice it when you play for long enough.

The Big thing for me is competitive play, and there's little to none on the PC version, so 360 all the way.

i didnt say very well i said they can run it. medium settings 720p. the 780g 9400 and 785g mobos can all manage over 30fps. either way the issue is running it is not an issue. anyone whos really lookingto play this game ie a gamer can easily run it and manage 30fps. so the hardware and performance thing becomes a nonissue.

and no trust me more people on the pc. like i said voice chat is new to the consoles the pc has had it for over a decade. more people have mics. every server i go on at least 3 out of the 4 have mics. plus theres many many more people on the pc version than 360 anyways.

Wow, that's great, but has nothing to do with what I said.

I'm in a L4D clan, and competitive play is important to me for the this and the next game. The PC version ladders on MLG were dead from the start, 360 is another matter entirely, the ladder is very active.

30 Frames a second is acceptable for a number of games and genres

It however DOES NOT cut it for a fast paced shooter like Left 4 Dead sorry, if you ask me the game on 360 would have been much better if they dropped the visuals even more in order to get 60 frames a second.

Trust me, I've played more than enough FPS' on consoles. From the Medal of Honour series, Halo series, Killzone series, Rainbow 6 games and so on, I've had plenty of time with them. However, the responsiveness, speed and acuracy just don't come close to that achievable on the PC with a keyboard and mouse.

I promise you that if we were to go head to head on an FPS with you and your gamepad and me and my kb/m, I'd dominate you :)

I think they should have made it 60FPS as well. I played well enough with 30 when I owned it though.

Is this a joke? PC version all the way.

Better players, more players, better controls, user made content (quite often better than the stock maps), it's just better.

Well, you said it was unrelenting frusteration to play with a gamepad, maybe that's just you. I think I could stand a decent chance playing with a gamepad against a PC user. But I still think PC controls are better.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. It's unrelentingly frustrating in comparisson to the relative ease on the PC.

Well I disagree with you, in fact I don't really feel hampered too much with a controller in my hands, it's more comfortable, but it doesn't lack in some speed and quick accuracy.

When you play with a controller 30FPS doesn't feel as bad as it does with a mouse. It's very playable on the 360 but still 60 is obviously better.Keep in mind that to get 60FPS you need to invest in a bit more money than the average console user, so that is a con.

Well I like a controller for direction movement because it feels much more comfotable. It's easier to move around and platform with the 360 controller, although you don't really even need it for L4D. From my experience the 360 does have a bit more people using mics, but then again we could be playing with some friends on one version and less on the other or something like that.

Everyone here has a computer so that means if someone really wanted to do a budget PC the only things they would NEED to buy would be

Videocard

Motherboard

CPU

Ram

Power Supply

You can buy all of those for under 300 and run left 4 dead at 60 frames + 1080P easy along with most every other multiplat so ....

Case / Hard Drive / DVD Drive / Monitor or HDTV / speakers / keyboard / mouse can all be reused from current computer.

I'd take 60 frames a second over the medium settings the 360 version has, left 4 Dead is to fast paced for 30 frames a second only.

I can have my cake and eat it to though on PC better graphics, 4.5 x the resolution, 16 x the Anti Aliasing + a frame rate that never dips below 60

zipozal

When you play with a controller 30FPS doesn't feel as bad as it does with a mouse. It's very playable on the 360 but still 60 is obviously better.Keep in mind that to get 60FPS you need to invest in a bit more money than the average console user, so that is a con.

Please list the components that could run it with what you mentioned.

Well I like a controller for direction movement because it feels much more comfotable. It's easier to move around and platform with the 360 controller, although you don't really even need it for L4D. From my experience the 360 does have a bit more people using mics, but then again we could be playing with some friends on one version and less on the other or something like that.brandontwb

whatever you prefer the pc version is better since you can easily plug in a 360 controller if you want or use mouse and keyboard or mind control or whatver other gadget you want.

and thats possible. yet i doubt it. ive already explained why more people on the pc have mics. and its also been my experience with friends or otherwise

10. Also, I think with a new motherboard you'll need a new operating system as well, ~$100.

The PC version automatically wins just because of mods.

Not coming back?

About 15 bucks over the budget, but I think I did pretty good.

Hec 585 Watt Power Supply = 27 Dollars

AMD Phenom Quad Core X4 9600 = 90 Dollars
http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=4589208

Asus M2A Motherboard = 60 Dollars
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131391

OCZ Platinum 2 x 2 GB's = 52 Dollars

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227298

ATI 4850 512MB = 85 Dollars

http://www.techforless.com/cgi-bin/tech4less/AE/48500+T352?mv_pc=google_base&tts=20090903023700

You could save another 40 bucks if you went for 2 GB's of ram or slower ram, or a dual core instead of a quad, but it wouldn't be worth what you would be loosing.

What about graphics? The graphics look like crap on the 360, while they look very good on PC.

What kind of PC do you have that's able to play L4D at a res 4.5x higher than 720p (whatever that is...I'm guessing it's hella high), 16xAA and never go below 60fps. Anywhos...they're the same to me. u_u I've played the PC version to death and at the moment completely hate the game. I'm sick of it. :) I do want the 360 version though to play with friends.

I've played them both extensively so I can rate them without being too bias!

Xbox:

Pros

- Higher percentage of people have mics

- Everyone gets the same performance (better for competition)

- Directional movement is better with control stick(edit: this means it's better than 'WASD," I'm not talking about camera control)

Cons

- Controller isn't as responsive as mouse

- Limited to 30 FPS (frames per second)

- No mods or custom maps

- Less frequent updating

- Priced higher

PC

Pros

- Everyone can communicate via keyboard

- Can get better performance if hardware is better

- sv_cheats, mods, and custom maps

- More responsive controls

Cons

- Less people have microphones

- Not everyone can run the game well enough

Verdict: PC>Xbox

This is my opinion. Even though I think the PC version is better, the 360 version is more enough to get the full experience of L4D (without mods or custom maps).

What do you think about the two versions?

brandontwb
About the controller issue, isn't the PC able to use a 360 gamepad anyway? So its kinda moot unless L4D pc don't support gamepads.

The Big thing for me is competitive play, and there's little to none on the PC version, so 360 all the way.

Trmpt
i hope this is just flame bait....pc version is better...mods are better created maps are better

I'll take the professionally made maps over some community made crap. There are some good ones but they're rare.

well pc gamers get both. come on now everybody knows the pc version is far superior.

there is no comparison the PC version is superior to the console version in every way, the game is far to hectic to be played on a controller.
