I have both a 360 and a gaming PC so I had to choose between the two versions. I chose the 360 version for a few reasons.
More or less any well developed game is going to be better on the PC. The PC just has to many options available to it's users. If you don't like your graphics you can just turn the settings up if you have the hardware. If don't like the controls... just buy a new keyboard, mouse, gamepad. There are thousands to choose from. If you don't like the mic you are using buy a different one. If don't like the game mode you are playing some games have mods that add new content to the game, such as left4dead. More or less a game is always going to be better on the PC. The only thing that causes a multiplat game to be better on the systems is PC games some times have horrible bugs from lazy programmers. All of these options come at a cost, but the option is there unlike the systems.
PC version is far superior. Also, more people have mics on PC than 360. PC version wins by a landslide.aaronmullanWell from my experiance hardly anyone uses mics on the pc version, 360 version wins it for mic useage.
As much as I would have liked to play L4D with my friends who all only play on consoles, there is no way in hell I could stomach playing L4D on the 360, and paying more for it at that. Once I got into playing it on the PC I knew I made the right choice. The game just performs/looks vastly superior. My console friends who at first were pissed that I "ditched" them, all wished they could play my version when they saw it in 1080p on a 52 in HDTV, with more Zombies on screen, and looking way better then the 360 version.
If you have no choice, the game is good enough that the 360 will do. However the game was obviosly designed around the PC first, and ported down. The way it should be. :D

I think these things should just include technical things, like graphics, sound, playability.
30 Frames a second is acceptable for a number of games and genres
It however DOES NOT cut it for a fast paced shooter like Left 4 Dead sorry, if you ask me the game on 360 would have been much better if they dropped the visuals even more in order to get 60 frames a second.
zipozal
imo 30fps without any dips is ok
[QUOTE="washd123"][QUOTE="brandontwb"]
I've played them both extensively so I can rate them without being too bias!
Xbox:
Pros
- Higher percentage of people have mics
- Everyone gets the same performance (better for competition)
- Directional movement is better with control stick
Cons
- Controller isn't as responsive as mouse
- Limited to 30 FPS (frames per second)
- No mods or custom maps
- Less frequent updating
- Priced higher
PC
Pros
- Everyone can communicate via keyboard
- Can get better performance if hardware is better
- sv_cheats, mods, and custom maps
- More responsive controls
Cons
- Less people have microphones
- Not everyone can run the game well enough
Verdict: PC>Xbox
This is my opinion. Even though I think the PC version is better, the 360 version is more enough to get the full experience of L4D (without mods or custom maps).
What do you think about the two versions?
brandontwb
um more people on the pc have mics than xbox. pc gaming has had voice chat for over a decade now. second ,mouse and keyboard are way better in every way shape or form for FPSs. controllers have no advantage. and for this game the hardware thing is hardly an issue. even onboard mobo gpus can run it
Onboard gpus can not run this game very well (I know from trying it on like 4 different, modern, computers) And no, more people do have mics on the Xbox version. so explain why a onboard amd 780g can run crysis on low at a soild 30fps then yet it can left for dead? the source engine doesn't take much to run. the x360 is pretty much the same as amds onboard gpus. maybe a bit better but not much.[QUOTE="aaronmullan"]PC version is far superior. Having played both versions and being unable to overcome the unrelenting frustration that is trying to play an FPS using a controller, the PC version trumps the 360 version by a light year.

You just don't know how to play with a controller that's all. I've seen live tournaments with people using an Xbox 360 controller, beating people with keyboard/mouse. It's all about skill and knowing how to use he controls, that's all. Everyone has their own opinion. I like the XBox 360 version better. I don't care for using a keyboards to move a character around an environment. The last time I did that was in WoW, and I still wasn't too comfortable with it.

PC L4D >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 360 L4D
Why is this even debatable?

Because not everyone likes playing the game on the PC. Just because you do, doesn't mean everybody does. Your opinion does not equal FACT. lol!!

KB/Mouse is going to trump Dual Analog in almost any match where skill between the two players is equal. It's merely a fact that the mouse is more sensitive and more precise.
Just because you don't like playing on a PC does not change the fact that the PC version has better framerates, timely updates, free content, free online, custom mods, and as mentioned before, more sensitive controls.
The one thing about the 360 version I liked the most was when my friends and I all hooked up a few 360's in the same room, and played split screen with eachother.
You really just don't get the same experience on the PC imo.
I've played the PC version a lot more than the 360 version (I don't have a 360), but still it's the ONE and ONLY Valve game I'd truly prefer on the Xbox.
whats the point of these threads? every knows pc> everything. most of us dont like to game with a mouse and keyboard. thats why we use a game controller on our vidoe game systems.
You can use XBox 360 controllers on PCs btw.I've played them both extensively so I can rate them without being too bias!

[QUOTE="stereointegrity"][QUOTE="yoshi-lnex"]i hope this is just flame bait....pc version is better...mods are better created maps are better I'll take the professionally made maps over some community made crap. There are some good ones but they're rare. The Big thing for me is competitive play, and there's little to none on the PC version, so 360 all the way.

good thing you get both on the PC version

Yes because everyone knows carrying around TV and consoles is totally way easy then LAN parties... point invalid, people can move around their PC just as easily, without having to switch disks for each game
if you like 360 version solely because of your friends, get better friends! (a.k.a. friends that use PC, friends that are smart enough to use PCs... which doesnt take much brain power anyway, plug a into b without stuffing it up)... either way, friends are factors that have nothing to do with PC vs 360 since it has NOTHING to do with the quality of each one

Requires facts. Opinion isn't the be-all-and-end-all dismissing all debate... if it was then there wouldn't be the masterpieces of art, music and movies. opinions need to be validated, PC version has much more validation behind it (cheaper [got my PC version for 25USD], better quality, better controls, etc)

Does anyone else see the irony in this post?
It's almost quotable.
What makes it even funnier is L4D has split screen on PC.
[QUOTE="raynimrod"]
[QUOTE="brandontwb"]Well, you said it was unrelenting frusteration to play with a gamepad, maybe that's just you. I think I could stand a decent chance playing with a gamepad against a PC user. But I still think PC controls are better.
brandontwb
Controllers are comfortable no doubt and competitive against other CONTROLLER players. But you have NO chance against a player using a keyboard and mouse. Sorry NO chance. Go on youtube, go watch a quake 3 player. Watch a video. Watch a good player, watch a dude kill another dude in mid air - while being in mid air himself... flying off a cliff...on the otherside of the map...you can literally kill a player who looks like a small speck on the screen with the precision of a mouse

well i have steam and i got L4D for like $30, not to mention that the new dlc is going to be free on the pc.

what?
[QUOTE="washd123"][QUOTE="brandontwb"]
And also, I was referring to directional movement, not viewing angle movement.. And it's better on 360.brandontwb
how is pushing an analong stick forward or backwards better than pressing a button?
Using your thumb is more accurate than pressing the buttons, it also has 360 degrees of motion instead of 8. It clearly sounds like you haven't palyed the 360 version enough. Definately 3 people don't have mics in every game on Steam. Xbox 360 comes with a mic which would explain why more people use it. I think you need to stop being so bias and realize the PC isn't better in EVERY SINGLE ASPECT. I think I've played them both enough to talk about it more fairly.WRONG. You don't have only 8 movement directions. The mouse gives nearly infinite precision with movement. The keyboard/mouse combo allows for far more precise movement than a single analog stick.
Everyone knows this, time to stop drinking the analog stick koolaid.
i also think the pc version is better as well. After playing the PC version and try out the 360 version. I couldnt bare with the framerate, i felt that it was so choppy.OPuniverse
I agree. I originally got it on the 360 and when my 360 RRoD, I got it for my PC. Now that my 360 is back, I can not play this on 360 it is soooooo choppy and it seems like there are less common infected. Also, campaigns like Coald Blood and Death Aboard are soooo fun, as are mods and sv cheats, so I will be sticking with PC for l4d 2 as well.
PC version is always superior. Who do you play with? Most everyone I run into on PC has a mic. I'd rather have limited mics than 12 years olds screaming into theirs everytime they see a zombie. Not all can run it well? Lower the settings. That's why PC games are scaleable. 99% of PC gamers know this.
Add KB/Mouse control as a PC plus (as with all games) as well as larger amount of people playing on PC and PC players are more mature. Yes, I've played both. It's always funny to see a 360 player lose control.
Why is this comparison even being made? As if they were even in the same league. Lets see 30fps vs 100+ fps at 1080p full AA.

Actually the friends I played L4D with are the same friends I do LAN parties with, plus I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that I was actually comparing a 360 LAN to a PC LAN.
And friends do have something to do with PC vs. 360 because the overall experience was a lot better on 360 than PC for me.
I have both a 360 and a gaming PC so I had to choose between the two versions. I chose the 360 version for a few reasons.
- For some reason, Steam refuses to pick up my mic.
- Most of my friends dont have gaming pc's.
- They have 360's, I want to play with friends.
- The 360 is just "easier" IMO, pop the disc in and away you go.
- I know the PC version is better but its nice to play and destory the other team with my friends on the lesser version.
- Plus its fun making kids rage quit, thats why I love XBL.

The "360 versions easier, pop in the disc and away you go" makes me laugh everytime. PC: Install the game once, click on an icon and away you go, no disc required.
