Not even two weeks after it's release, RedOctane & Harmonix are charging you even farther the $90 you just spent for Guitar Hero 2 with "song packs" that should have come standard with the retail copy:|

This game is trash when it released back at the end of February in the first place. They didnt deliver on their promise on the costumes, additional missions, etc. being released originally on the disc. Well, now theyre here, and theyre only charging you 20 points a pop for the half-a-dozen or so items. Oh, but Japan had this content long before the US lemmings did. Guess what else? They got it all for free...

Essentially, Epic and Gears Of War Online players (you lemmings) got flat-out ***** from behind by yours truly. This content was intended to be free, until Micro$oft put their greedy hands around Mark Rein's neck and demanded a price tag for it to be distributed. Of course, you can wait 6-8 months later and get it for free, in which 80% of GEOW's Online fanbase will be done with them, and ready to move on to Halo 3 online. Microsoft, now this is a company who takes care of their consumers...$;)
Now you lemmings know I could go on and on with this bash but I just want to get to the bottom of this: Why do you guys succumb to these pathetic actions by Microsoft and Developers by buying this stuff that should come standard? Why would you pay for material that other XBL Continets and PC gamers get for free? Microsoft wants to give you guys "achievement" points? Some real "achievment points" would be awarding those songs from the original GH as an unlockable after you complete GH2 on certain difficulty levels, or give GEOW players those maps free when they reach a certain rank online.
Or... you can just continue to allow "the man" to screw you over harder than Walmart & Circuit City chains screw over their employees. It's not my matter, just trying to lead you in the right direction. I just pray that Sony won't do the same to PSN users.
FrenziedRaldo24
Good question. I am not going to divert the question by bashing on the PS3, PSN, or Home. Bottom line - I do agree with what you said and truly do feel that I am getting gouged through the Marketplace as a 360 user. The only positives about any of the "micro"transactions are that you don't have to buy these things. The problem I see is, that most of this stuff should have and could have been included in the final version of the game. Instead, the content was purposely held out of the retail version with the sole intent of gouging 360 users later for more $.
Is this going to make me sell my 360 and get a PS3? No freakin' way. I love the games on the 360 too much to do that and am looking forward to playing way too many upcoming 360 games. That being said, I wish I could ram the toe of my boot so far up Peter Moore's @ss for what Microsoft is doing with the Marketplace. Instead of making the Marketplace a rewarding exerience for us gamers, it has become the breeding ground of corporate greed and scumbag practices.
I wouldn't call $15 map packs, $4 horse armor, and $2 songs "micro" by any means. They should at least have the balls to call them what they are - megatransactions.

and blu ray, and the 20 gig ps3 that was really just an experiment, and the soon to be 80 gig ps3, and motion sensing functions....
Oh and yes we all know that sony will not charge for its online stuff, nope any thing that will add to the system or games will be free of charge, yep every single map, character...ect released from now till...forever will be free...yep
Just as I expected, lemmings try to dodge the original topic by blaming Sony for something...First off, Home hasnt launched yet. Don't bash it until theres something worth bashing.
Blu-Ray is being heavily used for games, not just movies. And when you consider the included Wifi, 60GB's, Memory Card Slot, and included Rechargeable battery, the Blu-Ray is just an added bonus.
The 80 Gig PS3 has not been confirmed, so lets remove that straw. Also, how does Motion Sensing affect pricing?:|
I never said Sony wouldnt charge for extras, I only said I hope they don't-dont put words in my mouth.
Home hasn't launched yet but ITS CONFIRMED that certain additions to homes will cost money....
Memory card slot-over 80% of gamers will never use this, Rechargeable battery by a company known for having battery recalls atleast once a year, a battery you cannot replace your self...
blu ray isn't being heavily used for games, If it was then every one would be doing it, PC, 360, Wii, the only thing using Blu ray for games is Ps3 and therefor only ps3 games will use blu ray....
The 80 gig will be confirmed and you know it, The patent says it all, and sony hasn't denied a 80 gig ps3 and you know it.
And another thing, You are a confirmed cow, you make a thread Titled Lemmings do you enjoy being screwed over by MS & Co. you are quite litterally saying sony wont do this by making this thread and you know it, If you didn't mean it that way then you should have created a debate about microtransactions.
Instead you created a thread stating quite simply, Microsoft=evil company that wants to steal your money with microtransactions. And by not including sony in that like you could with a microtransaction debate you are saying sony wont do that.
Lemmings follow MS like the lord-almighty. They don't seem to care about money. (No offense 360ers)
However, bashing a company isn't my style.......
sinarilias
Don't all fanboys do the same thing? You can like fanboys are different. They all follow companies, that's what they are. If they didn't follow a company they wouldn't be a fanboy.
I agree maps and stuff should be free or atleast half of them like with Gears there were free maps that were released before. But with GH2 is there anything free or is it all pay already for the online stuff
How many games are available for download on the PC (with a cost)? Obviously due to the PC's design, they are leaps forward in this area, and consoles will reach that point eventually. Steam, episodic games, downloadable retail games, etc. are all proof of this. My argument was that paying for content online is an idea which many gamers feel uncomfortable with, and Microsoft is simply trying to move things along. I am not comparing platforms.
I fail to see how it's a step forward.
I fail to see how it's a step forward.

I have explained myself. If you do not understand, then that's your problem, not mine. Incase you've skipped the text, I compared downloadable content to expansion packs in my first post of this thread.

LOL do you know mass migrations of antelope in Africa cross rivers infested with crocodiles? when you have any animal that propagates in such numbers, and migrates as a unit, there are all ways misc deaths via trampling, drowing, eating...ect
Just for everybodies information, Lemmings do not spontaneously just jump off cliffs, and follow each other to there doom. That myth was orchestrated by Disney as they forced these Lemming's off the cliffs into the chilly waters in the ocean. This from wikipedia.
Suicide myth
While many people believe that lemmings commit mass suicide when they migrate, this is not actually the case. Lemmings will often migrate in large groups and as a result some lemmings will occasionally be pushed off cliffs or drowned in bodies of water simply by the press of their compatriots. The myth of lemming mass suicide is long-standing and has been popularized by a number of factors. It is usually stated that the main source of the belief in the suicide myth was propagated by The Walt Disney Company documentary White Wilderness which includes footage of lemmings running head-long over a ledge. However, the filmmakers contrived this scene.
Due to their association with this odd behavior, lemming suicide is a frequently-used metaphor in reference to people who go along unquestioningly with popular opinion, with potentially dangerous or fatal consequences.
Here's link to White Wilderness. The famous movie that depicted Lemmings jumping to there death.

There will be games that will have microtransactions for the ps3 starting in may. So just don't think it's all from the 360, the ps3 will be in on it as well.
first its not released yet secondly micro transaction in home won't have much to do with gaming, I for one wont be paying for extra clothes or electronics for my "home"
One last thing before I head outta here for the day - the Epic versus Microsoft thing goes beyond Microsoft just trying to get some money out of their Gears of War marketing investment. Microsoft wants us 360 users to become "used to" paying for DLC. They want it that if a map pack comes out, we "expect" to pay $15 for it. A couple of new maps - $5. Etc. If they let Epic release these maps for free (which Epic used their own manpower to develop, so you'd think that Epic would be the ones to dictate the price of the maps), then when Capcom comes out with 2 new maps and charges us $5 for it, the community will be like: "why do we have to pay for those Lost Planet maps when Epic gave them to us for free?"
This isn't where Microsoft wants the Marketplace to go. They want us to pay for all content (besides demos and trailers). They want us to be used to doing so. By establishing this model and using Gears of War to drive it home, it only goes to imbed these practices in us for future DLC.
its the game developers charging a fee for the new content, not MS. MS in the end pays the developer a certian percentage of the numbers of downloads on live.(i would guess) You also gotta take into consideration, developing games is expensive. micro transactions and charging for new items, etc is going to get bigger and bigger, and it don't matter what you guys say. unless your willing to pay a higher price for a game at retail. if not, then don't buy the extra content, know one is forcing you. SunLord592
You've won the internets, congrats...

I love how you pretend that I have to buy the song pack, but when it comes to buying stuff for home its "Optional." Fanboy logic at its best.

You will NEED a wired controller is another $40 bucks if you dont want to switch/recharge batteries. That is unless you bought the core, and you will NEED a hard drive to get online. One way or another, you arent getting the full packag and theres no way around that. Blu-Ray is needed, it games are using more than 9 GB's which is more than a DVD can hold.
As for that avatarr situation you brought up, what if I don't want to spend $20 - $60 for a game just to get a certain atavar?:|
Well, see, i guess i shouldn't be telling you this since sony is obviously your best buddy. BFF's. Microsoft gives you choices, you get what you want to pay for. Sony TELLS you that you want something, and charges u an extream amount for it. Also, if you KNEW ANYTHING about technology you would realize blu-ray is not need if you can advance compression techniques. Please, read up before you talk. And, if you don't want to spend 20-60 for a game avatar i have the perfect solution. DON"T CARE ABOUT A SMALL PICTURE NO ONE BUT YOU REALLY SEES OR CARES ABOUT.

Blu- ray needed? meh if crysis... a massive game fits on a dvd, or mass effect, I don't see a point.

i dont need an avatar to play a videogame - therefore i dont need to buy one.Rob2223You can say the same thing about Home.

It's a different marketing strategy. Either:
a) You release the maps for free, selling more copies due to all these free downloadables.
b) You sell the maps, generating income off those sales.
Since Gears of War has already hit the majority of the Xbox 360 user-base in the Western world, I would doubt that a couple free maps would do much for the income. If you charge for them, I'd be willing to bet that most who enjoy Gears of War to a decent degree would consider purchasing the maps, generating quite a bit of income off the 4 million users. From a business perspective, Microsoft had the better idea if you ask me.
I honestly don't really care if I am paying for it. I have money and my mom's credit card and as long as they keep pumping out stuff to keep it fresh then they got my money. I have the option to not buy DLC and play a game with full enjoyment but I still like to buy stuff to make it last longer.
