Here's why. For the simple reason of Xbox 360 Elite.  Why else would Microsoft decide include this new sku?  That's right. Because they see the potential threat of the PS3.  PS3 has now sold over 3 million.  And that is with Europe in the picture for only a week.  At this rate, PS3 will sell 9-10 million in a year...just like 360 sold.

PS3 is $599, has 2 competitors, and hardly any good software.  360 is $200 cheaper than PS3, had zero (next gen) competitors for a year, has great software, and sold only 10 million in a year.  Yep...I think Microsoft is starting to panic.  Sony will get good software soon, and (I'm assuming) a price drop soon.

Microsoft is more scared of PS3 than Wii...otherwise, why even have the Elite?  Why not update the 360 with motion-sensing controls.  That's right...because Microsoft is not scared one bit by Nintendo.  They see Sony as the main threat.  And rightfully so when a $599 console is selling just as quickly as the 360 did during the same time period with "less than stellar" software and 2 competitors.  Microsoft is in panic mode...

Do you agree or disagree with my opinion?

I disagree, because Sony is getting owned. It's not a matter of fact that "OH JUST WAIT UNTIL SAID GAME COMES". By the time it DOES come out, it'll be multiplatform. There ARE a few exclusives that look interesting to me on the PSTriple, like Warhawk, but I won't pay $600 until they have some better games/better online play.

Yea, MS is not scared of Nintendo one bit. Even though Nintendo managed to sell through 60% of what the 360 could do in a year - in a mere 4 months. Good one.

Wow, launch in a new region helped sales numbers. What a shock! Like I said before, sales started real well here. They have been lacking pretty much since launch. I would not surprise me if Europe followed the trend.

Agreed. The PS3 sold like hotcakes in the US and Japan when it first launched. Now it's sales are being tripled by the Wii monthly. Cows seem to think that because European cows flocked to pick up a PS3 - that the console war will change completely.

But, see...Sony is not getting owned.  Sony is on track to sell the same number of consoles in a year that 360 sold.  Now, I admit...right now Sony is getting owned by the Wii...but as I've said in other threads, I think sales of Wii are going to drastically drop eventually.  Why would Microsoft even consider the Elite if they weren't scared of Sony?  Why not put in motion-sensing?seeing as Wii is kicking both PS3 and 360's collective behinds, that would make sense right?  I think Microsoft is trying to up the package to "match" the PS3 and ignoring motion-sensing because they fear the PS3 sales more than Nintendo sales.

You said PS3 will sale 9-10 million in a year I doubt that, your basically saying they are going to triple their sales in 6 months. Then you said they aren't afraid of the Wii as much as the Ps3 since they came out with an Elite instead of Motion sensing; well adding whole new hardware and new controllers to your system or increasing its power which is easier. The reason for X360 to make an elite was to just try to boost sells from fear of both if not mostly the Wii not Ps3 which is still doing poorly.

They launched it for that reason. To gain as much consoles as they can while not really doing anything. And their plan worked pretty good except for their system failure rate.

I mean their huge gun Halo 3 still isn't out yet and Gears of War was a huge surprise as the xbox now has a new huge franchise to rival Halo or maybe beat it in the future in sales

Doesn't change the fact that the PS2 was still very appealing last year. Hundreds of dollars less and hundreds more games.

If anything, Microsoft has shown that they have no fear of Sony.  They wouldn't increase the price of Xbox 360 if they thought there was any meaningful competition at the ~$500 range.

Strongly disagree. Microsoft isn't updating the 360 with motion controls because it'd be stupid to try to shoehorn it into games already in development. Also, it'd be a different controller needed. And considering the motionless wireless controller is $50, it'd only end up costing more. How much do you think a $60 controller with limited applicability released more than a year after the console launched will sell? Hint: Not much. Also, the reason for the Elite is to support Microsofts decision to go with IPTV. Downloadable HD content takes up a lot of space, and if Microsoft is serious about pushing it they needed to offer more than just 20 GB. Thus the Elite. Besides, why would they be afraid of the PS3? The Wii is selling best in both Japan and North America. As for Europe, wait and see. Sales in the first 4 months tell a lot more than sales in the first 4 days.

I disagree because the rumors for this HDMI 360 were out way before the Europe launch even started. So I disagree. The only ignorant fanboy is you^^^

The Elite isn't something MS did in responce as it was already a concieved idea before the Euro Launch. Do you think any company is capable of redesigning a console and shipping it out so shortly after a competitors console launch? No.

of course not.

And when PS3 starts outselling Xbox 360 worldwide, Cows won't let lemmings not include japanese numbers in total sales.

Japan is about 20% of the worldwide market for sony. it's probably only 5%  to MS (or less) and that will more than make up for the year head start Xbox 360 has.

Also PS3 will sell better in europe than Xbox 360.

MS and Sony both need to take Nintendo seriously or they will end up not losing but they will be outsold by Nintendo. If Nintendo ever finds a way to get back on top with 3rd Party support I don't believe they could ever be stopped again. Their first party is so strong, its what has held them above water for so long.

I agree it is far too early to say who has won/lost. Still, IMO some of the cows deserve it with the ENDLESS crap they spew about the Wii. Besides, the only reason sheep do it is because they get a lot of flock against the Wii.

Don't use sales as ownage? Oh wait you mean like every single Cow did with "zomg teh 100 millionzzz of teh ps2!!!"

hmmm......hypocrite much?

Trading_Zoner

well THAT was the time to claim ownage.... The console gen was over PS2 won BY FAR.

But he's saying it's too early to begin claiming ownage now.

actually from what i've read hes saying dont count out ps3 it will outsell both wii and 360. but oddly enough I still dont believe 600,000 ps3's we're sold in europe, even vgcharts.org agrees with me, its numbers dont add up.

as well how many has the ps3 sold since its launch? hmmmm

any ways never the less sales numbers can and will be used as ownage no matter what any one says.

[QUOTE="AvIdGaMeR444"]Sony is on track to sell the same number of consoles in a year that 360 sold.Trading_Zoner

Leaving them a year behind the 360 in sales. It's not like the 360 will take a year off to let the PS3 catch up.

of course not.

Not at $600+ Dollars, and I bet that March April shows impressive PS3 sales but I think they will decline here on out.

I agree, i still dont think 600,000 units got sold over 2 days in europe, and we dont have sales numbers since then either.

I disagree, because Sony is getting owned. It's not a matter of fact that "OH JUST WAIT UNTIL SAID GAME COMES". By the time it DOES come out, it'll be multiplatform. There ARE a few exclusives that look interesting to me on the PSTriple, like Warhawk, but I won't pay $600 until they have some better games/better online play.Kojak8888
Did you even read his post....he said the PS3 is selling better than 360 did with lack of games and software and at $600 price with competition, quit being so indenial....Its obvious when PS3 get better games and a price drop, its going to be #1 again.

These threads are so funny. Cows have spent the last 4 months saying 'wait until this time or that time.' They started dancing in the streets because their beloved over priced, over hyped paper weight actually sold in a market. Now they say you can't claim ownage because their system is a distant third and showing no signs of being able to catch up. Unless you use that presumptious logic they continue to use...

Yeah, but the 360 sales are slowing way down, they've been in the 10million range since when January, at that rate they'll have 12million and considering the holidays, 13million sold by 2008.
