Here's why. For the simple reason of Xbox 360 Elite. Why else would Microsoft decide include this new sku? That's right. Because they see the potential threat of the PS3. PS3 has now sold over 3 million. And that is with Europe in the picture for only a week. At this rate, PS3 will sell 9-10 million in a year...just like 360 sold.
PS3 is $599, has 2 competitors, and hardly any good software. 360 is $200 cheaper than PS3, had zero (next gen) competitors for a year, has great software, and sold only 10 million in a year. Yep...I think Microsoft is starting to panic. Sony will get good software soon, and (I'm assuming) a price drop soon.
Microsoft is more scared of PS3 than Wii...otherwise, why even have the Elite? Why not update the 360 with motion-sensing controls. That's right...because Microsoft is not scared one bit by Nintendo. They see Sony as the main threat. And rightfully so when a $599 console is selling just as quickly as the 360 did during the same time period with "less than stellar" software and 2 competitors. Microsoft is in panic mode...
